She wears her lineage for all to see, this pale queen: the long, fine profile of a regal lady matched with a predator's whipcord strength. Pinprick stars in foreign constellations sweep along her slightly darker headknobs and neckridges while the refined planes of her body dance with moonbeams, all the way down to pure white gold at the tips of arakh-curved talons. In contrast to this platinum pallor, there's a rosy glow to her wingsails, dawn seeping down their lengths towards crimson-touched tips that herald a glorious dawn. Though her lines speak to the controlled power she'll wield, there's a daintiness to her demeanour that speaks of poise and pride. She's a queen in every sense of the word: a dragon who expects to be noticed.

Every Woman's Opportunity Egg

A gold, in this mottled thing? It's larger than average, to be sure, and those are definitely gold flecks dotting the shell, in between the shadows that lace it. But something seems almost off about it, like it's /too/ gold, /too/ shiny. Too /something/. Only a fool would mistake it for the real thing, right?

At last! A resounding thud marks the beginning of the end for the Every Woman's Opportunity Egg: it creaks angrily as pieces of shell give way against enthusiastic pounding. Flakes of gold peel away, more and more with every shuddering motion, until a final crack sends the whole thing to pieces, sending a pale queen hurtling onto the sands.

Temperament

For you, Iolene, Ysavaeth is unerringly genuine: mother, protector, teacher, most loyal friend. She is your greatest advocate, soother of your fears and encourager of your dreams; she has your back, and with her at your side, you can never truly be alone. True softness, however, is for you alone: Ysavaeth has a tendency to see the rest of the world as mere pieces in the game she plays, there to be used and discarded according to her needs. You are not a play piece, not really, though that does not mean she won't be subtly moulding you to her desires, pushing you into the directions she prefers; it's not that you're not good enough, Iolene, it's just that you can be better. And need to be better, if you're going to get what you deserve.

Ysavaeth, you see, is ambitious; she wants things. Perhaps in her earliest days and months, she will be content with what she has: the only queen amongst her clutchmates, special, admired from the moment of her hatching. She will likely learn how to manipulate others early, using her own innate powers to her advantage long before she is theoretically supposed to know of them. This may cause you some grief, Iolene, as she tests the waters: how much can she get away with? How does it all work? Despite early failures, she will gather around her a chosen group, and she will lead them: the exile queen and her followers. She'll learn to effectively use Temrianth's awe to her advantage, though his ideas of equality sit wrong with her queen-ness; likewise, Sforzath's passion encourages her, though she'll find his enthusiasm trying at times. Vysravth's disregard for females will grate on her, but it won't stop her from using him if she can- or shoving his face in the mud if she can't.

As she gets older, Ysavaeth will tire of the weyrling barracks and the restrictions placed upon her. She will resent the power the weyrling staff have over her, she, who is a queen, and ought to be controlling /them/! She is not a dragon who plays well with others: she will resent, in particular, Iovniath's dominance over the weyr. And yet, for all her ambition, Ysavaeth is not a dragon of vision: she knows what she wants, but it is not in her nature to concern herself with the minutiae of what it will mean. She craves power and influence, but does not really know how to wield either.

At least she's quick: intelligent, well-favoured physically, unlikely to suffer the disadvantages of many of her peers. She also has exacting standards: you will succeed in your classes, win acclaim, shine. Or you will die trying. Those standards will be equally important in her care, Iolene, for she will countenance no slacking in her regimen of bathing and oiling, nor in your own: you will be expected to look appropriate for your position at all times. At least she's a natural in matters of appearance and deportment, and will be delighted to play a more sisterly role in advising you on how you look, what to wear, what to eat, your manners... and every other part of your life. Ysavaeth is regal, beautiful, charming - and so too will you be. Like Yanijath, she has an eye for the finer things in life, and will expect only the very best.

For all her ambition, Ysavaeth is careful to hide her true thoughts wherever possible, something she will become better at as she grows up. As an adult, her ambitions will only intensify, but she will also gain a modicum of subtlety. True, she will continue to attempt to recruit others to her causes; true, she will plot and plan, but to the public eye, she will be as respectful and genuine as anyone could expect. « Straight out rebellion does no one any good, » she will explain. « We, Iolene, are subtle. We will choose our moments, and they will never see us coming. » To others, it may seem as though, having grown out of her moody, boundary-pushing adolescence, she has flourished into a generous and affectionate adult, an outgoing creature who manages to make friends easily, despite keeping a certain, regal distance..

Quietly, however, she will express her frustration. She will find your job as Junior Weyrwoman tedious, and will resent her own limitations: would that she had been born a bronze, so that she could simply take what she wanted! Would that she had the freedom that others do. She is her mother's daughter in many ways, but there will be times when her sire's restless spirit shows through, when everyone - except you, of course - is a disappointment to her.

She uses her body as currency, though she will never force such a thing upon you, Iolene. For herself - well, if all it takes is a cuddle to make a bronze think more fondly of her, who is she to deny it? When it comes to flights, however, she's a more discerning creature: like her dam, she'll want to pre-plan the outcome, using the occasion to gain some kind of political advantage. Not that that necessarily means she will get her way, of course, for the closer she gets to rising, the more erratic and cruel her temper will become, and during the flight itself, reason will be far from hers.

Should she be caught by the 'wrong' dragon, she'll spend her egg-heavy time in a sulk, snappish and unhappy even to you. In truth, however, even with the 'right' dragon, she'll never enjoy that period: she hates being weighed down, she hates the way it changes her shape, she hates being limited in what she can and cannot do. Everything is better once the eggs are actually on the sands, and then she will be a doting dam. If ever a dragon could influence her offspring in the shell, it would be Ysavaeth - and she will certainly try.

But you are still her favourite, Iolene, and long after she has forgotten her own offspring, she will mother you. She can be strict, and sometimes impatient, but even her sharp words come with complete love and affection. You are the only thing that matters to her, and at times, it may provoke her jealousy for there to be others in your life- you belong to /her/. Though that can be an uncomfortable thing, her anger is likely to be fleeting - a bitter pill followed (particularly if you acquiesce) by the brilliance of her regard.

Public Impression Message

Swinging her great head this way and that, the Sun and Stars Gold Hatchling surveys - and rejects - one girl after another on her long journey across the sands. Candidates step hurriedly out of her way as she passes, dodging wings and tail as she pushes into a group of exiles and comes to an abrupt halt in front of a blonde-haired girl. There may be horror and concern from amidst the distant onlookers, but for this young queen, there can clearly be no other.

Private Impression Message

The overwhelming heat of the sands is but a distant memory, now, left behind amidst the soft, golden warmth that accompanies her intense regard. Her voice is like the ringing of bells in your ears, more musical than any known instrument; she seems to speak straight to your heart and soul, cutting through everything else until there is nothing but you and her, hearts pounding as one. « Iolene. » is all she says, but it is enough: everything is clear. Ysavaeth is here, and never again can you truly be lonely. The moment lingers, further words unnecessary until, finally, she nudges at your middle with her golden head. « Come now: they're waiting for us. Let us oblige them. »

Mindvoice

Ysavaeth has a truly lovely voice - honey rich, smooth as silk, musical. It's the kind of voice that can make a dragon forget themselves, at times, and as she grows, that's certainly the kind of thing she'll try to do with it. Though generally quite restrained, when she does get excited, she chimes like a crystal bell; the rest of the time, there's a slipperiness, silken soft but almost unapproachable, perpetually etched in a golden warmth that ensures no dragon can ever forget that /she/ is a queen.

Itchyspots

Itching is not dignified. Itching is not regal. Itching is- something you're going to have to get used to, Iolene. Ysaevath has a lot of growing to do, and will do it quickly; during her first turn, she'll sometimes seem to stretch at the seams, and every bit of her will need careful oiling. She'll particularly itch around the edges and in hard-to-reach places: the base of each neckridge, each talon, each headknob.

Dragon Inspiration

Ysavaeth was largely inspired by Cirsei Lannister from George R. R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series, the first book of which was made into an HBO series this year. Cirsei is ruthless and ambitious, a queen who will stop at nothing to get what she wants; she's been tempered in Ysavaeth with some hints of Daenerys and Val, giving (we hope!) the maternal figure you were looking for. Her name was (very loosely) derived from the Dothraki phrase 'Es havazhaan', which means literally 'go to the sea', and is used to imply 'get lost'. We hope Iolene will never be lost- but at least she /will/ get to go to the sea sometimes.

Egg Inspiration: Deadwood, and fool's gold.

Clutches

Ysavaeth has produced 1 gold, 2 bronze, 2 brown, 3 blue, and 5 green dragons.
