Cailluneth's Ledge

High up, where the wind whistles freely by no matter what the season is, this weyr ledge is secluded and cold, kept out of the sun for most of the day by the rocky outcropping of the Weyr's rim. It offers a decent view of most of the Weyr with the lake in the far distance, but the real show-stopper is at night: the skies open up above it, with - weather permitting, of course - a clear view of the 'Reaches stars, mostly unobstructed given its location. It's of just smaller than average size, big enough for two dragons to perch side by side, or for a smaller one to lounge, though its lack of sun and warmth tends not to encourage such activities.

A narrow entranceway into the weyr may cause difficulties for a larger dragon, unless they're careful to tuck their wings in; once inside, though, it opens up to a couch that's amply sized for a pair of dragons to comfortably cuddle. It's mostly open to the rider's quarters, leaving little separation between lifemates.

The talk with Alida had meant to make N'ky feel better... and it did.

Initially.

He'd gone back to his weyr with Cailluneth, warming up with a mug of klah before curling up against her side, leeching some of her heat for himself.

« Did I do the right thing, Cailluneth? »

She curled her tail around him, tucking him in beneath her wing and slipping her head underneath the silvery sails to be beside him. N'ky reached out to her, stroking over her dainty muzzle, scratching gently at the spot she liked just above her eyeridges, then behind her headknobs.

It took her a moment to reply, and her answer was conflicted. A soothing warmth and agreeing sunshine-yellow said yes, it was right because it made her Heart feel better about himself; but there was a darker edge, devoid of her rainbow, that suggested she wasn't too pleased with the idea.

« I know, my Heart. »

That darker edge was what he could feel welling up within him; it was uncomfortable and unfamiliar, and his skin turned goose-bumped as he thought of what he was asking someone to do.

Cailluneth curled her tail more tightly around him.

« It's just this once, Cailluneth. It's not like I'll be making a habit of it... he deserves it. You know he does. »

Again, she didn't fully agree; her 'yes' was still tainted darkly.

« I don't have a choice, Cai. I want my family back. I miss my sisters, Ansly. My mum. Things were different when I had--before... before I lost him. » There was no need for N'ky to explain; Cailluneth knew precisely who he meant. « You're my world, my Heart, but I need family, too. There's no-one here anymore who can be that for me. »

An image of him and April appeared in his mind, painted in Cailluneth's warm hues. « No, my Heart, it's not the same with her. » He returned the thought, taking her bond's soft shades and turning them to those that represented lust and needs of that sort, not love.

J'madri's image followed. He did the same - though less lusty, more... dark. Uncomfortable. Things hadn't been properly patched up since N'ky had refused to... « No. It's not the same. »

Alida. Cailluneth rendered her pale hair with silver, perfectly captured the green of her eyes. It triggered something a whole lot warmer within N'ky than the former two faces had, but he shook his head, curling up closer to Cailluneth. « I trust her, my Heart, but she'd never... » Leaving that thought to trail off, he shook his head at his green. « She'd never think of me in that way. »

The beginnings of a fourth face appeared, and N'ky clouded it over in black before it was complete. « No. » That was met with a wash of questioning grey. He tried to explain the turmoil of emotions that one brought up, before realising there was one simple explanation: « Take your feelings for his He--for his, Cailluneth. » He couldn't call him his 'Heart'. It just didn't feel right; that was something for those who elicited some sort of warm fuzzies within him... and the fuzzies in this case were being smothered by... something. Something oozy, sticky. « Take your feelings for his, my Heart, » he repeated, adding, « mine are the same. »

She understood. Of course she did.

« My love is all for you, my Heart, but I need... someone. Anyone. Just someone to... to be me with. I need a pack. »

She understood that, too. Cailluneth curled her head in closer, wrapped her tail around him tighter, pinning him lovingly to her side and lulling him with a lavender lullaby to slough away the feelings of loneliness that he'd done so well to quash so far, but that threatened to bubble over with every waking minute.

It did the trick; N'ky fell asleep in no time. Such feelings would be better faced in the cold light of morning, if at all.
