| He was changed. Irrevocably. In the moment that K'zin accepted Rasavyth without reservation, their bonding became complete. The stories all say that Impression just happens on the hatching sands, and that's it. But in rarer cases, it is a two-fold process. K'zin and Rasavyth were bound together since Hatching Day, but it was only since that night in the infirmary that they truly became lifemates. K'zin agreed to twine his future with Rasavyth. They were no longer roommates sharing his headspace, but partners. Though he still had headaches, they were less frequent, and less severe. He came to understand through the new trust between them that the headaches coincided with the particular nights that Rasavyth spent digging in his memories for one thing or another. A new world was opened up to K'zin. True, there were some drawbacks, as he began to understand his lifemate's rather unique position on honor, morals, and ethics. (That they're all together unnecessary, unless they're needed to press some advantage.) But there were so many more things K'zin could do now. He, himself, wasn't suddenly brighter, but it was easier to tap into Rasavyth's clever mind. Rasavyth had a way of organizing and storing information in K'zin's mind that the rider began to understand and be able, too, to access. It made learning history a lot easier, even if it felt a little like cheating. But as Rasavyth put it, they fail or succeed together, so it was only fair that they be permitted to use their pooled resources. K'zin's schedule became different than the other weyrlings. He woke with them, exercised with them, did everything just about the same until lunch. At lunch, he'd be joined by babysitter to take Rasavyth to the hunting grounds to give him another go at hunting. It's been slow and occasionally painful going, but they pair are dutiful and give true effort to the task. Then there were lectures. K'zin and Rasavyth both became keenly attentive to whatever topic was presented. True, there were still boring ones, but they found that by both paying attention, none of the information was missed. All was catalogued for future reference by Rasavyth. Gliding practice wasn't Rasavyth's best moment of the day either, though he was marginally better with flying than with hunting. This, at least, felt like it improved each day. After that, the weyrlings were left to their own devices. K'zin's lessons didn't end, however. Now was the time for Rasavyth. The dragon was schooling him on all the things he'd gleaned from every memory K'zin has ever had. Of chief concern to the dragon were teaching K'zin better graces for socializing, bluffing and manipulation. At first, K'zin didn't fancy learning to manipulate; it didn't seem right. But at the same time, it was occasionally useful, and sometimes useful for the good of all. Rasavyth, he knew, often helped to subtly motivate the other dragons towards specific tasks or aims, or to try a little harder. For all that it could go extremely ill if used incorrectly, it wasn't a bad skill to have. Once lessons with Rasavyth were complete, then it was onto another grueling round of exercises, sometimes with Alida, and sometimes on his own. A bath would usually be in order then, followed by dinner. Then to studying. Rasavyth did this, too, with K'zin. Since that night, there was very little they didn't do together, quickly becoming each other's favored companions. Who else was there to hang out with in the barracks, really? Things were weird again with N'ky. He was avoiding Sabella and what would surely be her disappointment in the manner of his coming clean. Telavi was confusing. Alida was good company for exercising, but not much of a conversationalist otherwise. The others, he hasn't had more than passing conversations with. So why not Ras? Especially now that Ras was more free with himself. Practically giddy to have someone who embraces him for who he is. K'zin knew there would times he would need to temper his lifemate's great ambitions: temper, but never extinguish. |

Both heart-warming and a smidge ominous. But no matter what the outcome, it's so nice to see Rasavyth an K'zin beginning to really bond. It's especially interesting that Rasavyth is the one who is giddy to be accepted for all he is, when usually that's how the candidate-turned-rider usually feels. Love it.
