| The blizzard continues to drive the masses to entertain themselves in whatever way they see fit, resulting in unusually high numbers piling into the Glass Fountain. It's shoulder-to-shoulder inside the Fountain, with the bar a never-ending sea of drinks and marks passing back and forth. It's so busy inside that the crowd even spills outside into the caverns. N'muir has managed to get himself a table in the corner and has kept it relatively to himself, participating in the odd conversation with passerbys but so far succeeding in keeping them from actually /sitting/ down. Reesa's there, too, of /course/ - there's drinks and people and lots of attention in one of her new summer dresses, /completely/ unsuited to the freezing cold weather, but in the packed Fountain it's more than adequate with the warm press of bodies. She's standing by a table filled with a mix of riders from Hematite, Flint, and Malachite, and there seems to be some sort of betting going on about how much a certain bluerider can drink; Reesa's being helpful in that she's passing over beers for the older rider to consume. "That's six!" she calls out, passing over drink number seven as the cheering subsides. Unforunately with all the patrons, the staff are unable to keep up with clearing the empty cups nevermind going around to take orders. Eventually this results in a very frustrated N'muir unwillingly rising from his table and making his way through the crowd towards the bar. With such a crowd at the bar, N'muir takes his place at the end of the pseudo-line and stuffs his hands in his pockets. The chugging competition lures his idle attention, eyeing the older rider doing all the chugging. His eyes graze Reesa briefly and return a flicker later, pausing on the young greenrider with thought. He abandons his place in line, wandering over to the group slowly and pulling up next to her. "Who's taking bets?" he asks. "I bet he pukes after seven." With a nod of her head, Reesa indicates one of Flint's brownriders. "J'rak is. And after seven? Have you seen this man drink before? I swear he's got a second stomach just like a dragon. I don't know how he manages to-" and this is about when the greenrider realizes it's the Weyrleader standing there, abruptly snapping her mouth shut. The bluerider's busy drinking number seven, and he's looking distinctly woozy and everyone yells, "SEVEN!" while Ree's pouring number eight, though that might be too ambitious given the bluerider's woozy state. N'muir smirks, the lines around his eyes crinkling neatly. "I've seen a lot of people drink before," he remarks. "I've been here a while, you know." He looks at the bluerider, raising his brows absently before letting his gaze swing casually over to Reesa. "Relax," he groans. "I'm not going to make you do any work. Or give you shit for making blueriders puke." Standing by his bet, apparently, even if he hasn't put marks down on it. "But the Fountain staff will be pretty pissed off if they have to clean up in the middle of all this. How many can you drink?" Reesa leans past the bluerider to set number eight in front of him, and it's a good thing she's quick to do so, as just as she's pulling her arm back the bluerider leans over to the side and most of the beer he's ingested comes out, creating a ripple of groans and yells from those nearest as they hastily back away. Reesa, too, is backpeddling, likely into N'muir, trying to escape any splashback. "Remind me never to bet against you," she mutters in the Weyrleader's direction, as on the other side of the table marks are exchanging hands. "I can hold my own," she adds, "Though probably not as many as you, I imagine." It's hard to tell if it's flirting, flattery, or just casual observation - with the greenrider, it could be any of the above. N'muir never loses that calm exterior even as the man starts heaving. In fact, his lips almost smile. The Weyrleader shrugs one shoulder in an easy manner that doesn't require his hands to come out of his pockets. "I've been wrong before," he admits. "And plus, I really only considered that the human stomach can only hold so much liquid. Puking is inevitable." He'll avoid getting hit if she backs up too close, side-stepping just in case. If it is flirting, he isn't catching on. "I just... wanted to see how things were," he begins to say, hesitating. "Things have been kind of... you know, since everything. So... I wanted to, uh, just... see. How things are. For you." Smooth, man. Now that the immediate danger - that creeping puddle of former stomach contents - has been avoided - Reesa's focused entirely on the Weyrleader. It's the latter that earns her interest, a bemused sort of smile creeping up as her head tips to one side. "...fiiine. And you? You know, you ought to send that wingsecond of yours on an enforced vacation. Somewhere with sandy beaches. And you /ought/ to send a pretty, capable young greenrider with him to watch his back, just in case a big feline tries to catch him or something." She's obviously talking about E'ten, not E'dre, since she seems to be including herself in there. If she does mean E'ten, N'muir does not catch onto that fact just yet. His brows knit in confusion. "What? If he needs a vacation he'd ask for one. He's going to have a baby and he'll want to be off to look after Ebeny and the baby. Why would you want to go on a vacation with E'dre anyway?" He pauses, brows unwrinkling very suddenly. "Oh! /E'ten/! Right." There's a short chuckle. "If I made E'ten take a vacation, wouldn't you worry about his head exploding?" But more to the point: "You're fine? You haven't run into the Weyrwoman then? No one's given you a hard time since..." Since whatever it is that N'muir won't say out loud. The initial reaction earns blank expression, until Reesa lets out a brief snort. "Yes, E'ten. The one who hasn't had a vacation in /never/ and insists he can't afford to. You're back, E'dre's here, so everything's fine for him to take time off. /If/ you insist. Don't worry, I plan to try and keep him... distracted. No head exploding." Which seems to insinuate she's asking for a vacation too, though she isn't directly saying as much. It's the latter that makes her brow furrow, curiously. "No? Why would they?" Either she's that oblivious or she genuinely has no idea what N'muir's trying to insinuate. "He isn't going on vacation," N'muir insists, laughing gently. "Not til he's ready to go on vacation. Which he isn't." He pauses, studying the young greenrider in a sidelong look. His mouth opens, takes a breath as if words are just on the cusp of being said, and then his mouth closes and he smiles. "I'll... see what I can do about convincing him to want a vacation. But you should know, that boy /likes/ working. And if he /does/ decide to take a vacation, bring a bucket and a shovel just in case his head explodes all over that sandy beach. Try to bring as much of it home with you so I can try to put him back together. I like that little shit." He begins to take a step away and pauses. "If... you need to talk to someone, you know, bout anything. Or nothing. I'm... around, you know?" "He is ready," Reesa is quick to retort. "He thinks /you/ are not ready to let him go." And as for what Reesa thinks? Well, she's got hands on her hips, kind of expectant of getting her way. "He likes working," she concedes, "But he also dreams about exploring some of the uncharted southern continent, just going south and south and south as far as he and Adiulth can fly." It's the latter that catches her off guard, the blonde's brow furrowing as she reaches out a hand - not quite touching - as if to delay his departure. "What are you worried about, sir? Why would the Weyrwoman come and find me?" N'muir shrugs his shoulders. "I'll talk to him," he echoes. "I just want you to know that I can't make any promises though. If the boy wants to work I'm not going to make him go. And I don't recommend kidnapping him. Once again - brain exploding. Risky business." He shrugs again, gaze searching out in the crowd for answers or help. Or maybe he's just looking for the bar staff to come beat them with mops. "No reason to be worried. And she.. wouldn't. I just thought I'd check up on you. You're my wingmate and it just dawned on me that I haven't... you know, caught up with you. Ever." He takes a hand out of his pocket to thumb at the door. "Bijedth's calling. I should-..." His thumb bobs again at the door. "I'll see about E'ten taking a vacation though. Promise." The slight furrowing of brow suggests that Reesa's more concerned with N'muir's sudden interest in her well being than E'ten's vacation. Still, she can't exactly press him, and so she settles for, "Thanks, sir." Though which part of the conversation she's thanking him for is left vague. One of Flint's blueriders is jostling her, saying something about a game of cards, and pulling her off into the crowd soon enough. |
