Hot Springs, High Reaches Area(#1636R)

Even further north than the Weyr itself, a short flight between crags and over crevasses that even a wing-scarred veteran of Fall might undertake, a cluster of clearings lies low in the shelter of hardy trees and ancient stone. The outer two clearings might have been lost to more stubbly trees Turns ago, if it weren't for the centre-most: a natural pool of warm, softly bubbling water several dragonlengths across, with enough space for perhaps a half-dozen people and their lifemates. Though the air is cold all Turn round, and snowdrifts frequently whiten the ground, the geothermal activity heats the mineral-scented water to such a consistently comfortable heat that it becomes a refuge for those who don't wish to travel further afield to wash their dragons.
Of the clearings that abut the spring, the nearest is only a few steps away, though it's small enough that only a few dragons can lounge at once. A steep trail descends to its substantially larger neighbor, a gravel-strewn crescent with enough space to spread out and enjoy the crisp air and the mountain range's admittedly spectacular views.

Just like clockwork, over the past few sevens Edyis has shown up twice a seven at precisely the time arranged to spar with Jadzia. For the most part aside from necessary questions she hasn't really said much of anything or broached any personal topics with the former guard, nor did she say anything when G'laer stopped attending their biweekly sessions. Mostly she just listens, and observes speaking only when she doesn't understand something. So perhaps it comes as a surprise when she suggests the hot springs, or perhaps not. Amid the occasional dance of snowflakes, sunk deep into the water which fights the chill, she's silent for a while before finally asking, "That story you told, the first session. Did you mean it? That G'laer got you kicked out of the guard?" Unable to hold the curiosity which has been building for sevens.

Jadzia isn't as... whatever G'laer is. But she's not the most talkative woman when she doesn't want to be. And that's apparently been how she's been around Edyis for most of their contact with each other. She's professional enough, though, and has seemed genuinely interested in helping the scribe better herself in hand to hand encounters, perhaps especially now that the greenrider isn't joining them. Female empowerment and whatever! Maybe it's surprising that Jadzia agrees to go to the hot springs at all. And it might be even more surprising when she answers, "I don't remember exactly what I said. But that part is true."

The scribe tilts her head at that piece of information studying the steam as it rises off the water for some moments before glancing back over to the blonde. "And you still speak to him?" The words come tinged with confusion, though she doesn't seem to expect a genuine answer. "Did you want it? The guard I mean. Was it something you wanted for yourself or was it something that was decided by family tradition?"

There's nothing hurried about the way Jadzia answers the questions. Maybe she's thinking about what she says before it comes out of her mouth. That would be a first! "I didn't for turns, no. I hated him. I still kind of hate him." That probably won't help the confusion. "I wanted to be a guard." For herself, presumably.

"He seems like a asshole." Edyis decides unceremoniously. "That may be a biased opinion though. So what did you do, after the guard was no longer an option?" Tilting her head to study the woman, though not with cold detachment but rather something warmer.

"He is." No one can really deny that. G'laer himself probably wouldn't deny it. Jadzia certainly doesn't take offense for his sake. But she doesn't dive right into an answer for the next question, either. She pushes her hands absently through the water as she asks, "Why'd you ask for his help, anyway? You probably knew he was an asshole then." Then, "I trained runners and canines. The ones the guard uses sometimes."

"Alida suggested him, so far as keeping the training sessions she's giving sharp. If I want to get any sort of competency quickly, I have to practice. I trust Alida's judgement." Flexing sore muscles and stretching languidly in the delicious heat. "So you are good, with training them? Get them to go through complex comands?" Her interest suddenly intensifying.

"I don't know Alida," Jadzia says, not sounding particularly interested in the woman that suggested the man she has such a strange relationship with. "I was good enough for them to use the animals. It's more about obedience under stressful situations than complexity, though. Especially with runners."

"You'd probably like her, she's just as prickly as you are." Edyis smirks affectionately. "Mm. Both are useful, do you think you could apply what you already know on animal handling to - say firelizards?" Uh oh. "I mean if you wanted to. Hypothetically speaking."

"Then I'd probably hate her." Jadzia is under no impression that she's the most fun person to be around most of the time. She's well aware of (some of) her shortcomings. "Maybe. I've never really interacted with a firelizard beyond taking a message from them. But I've heard they're on a similar level to canines, so it would make sense that certain techniques would work with them."

"Well she isn't precisely a people person, but she's a good sort I suppose." Then again, if one took a much closer inspection of the people Edyis thought were good sorts, they might just question the scribe's judgment and sanity. "Maybe if I ever get my hands on one we could test the theory. I've heard they are usually little more than pests but if you could get one to be useful!"

"People without my experience seem to be able to train them well enough on their own. I'll charge for my help." At least Jadzia is honest about it up front. So it really depends on whether Edyis wants to put marks on a maybe.

The scribe just shrugs, mouth working into a line, before the expression dissolves. "You don't like people much do you?" it's not a judgment more of an observation.

Jadzia frowns at that observation, though that doesn't necessarily mean she thinks it's true or false. "What does that have to do with anything?"

The scribe studies her fingertips under the water choosing her words, "You just seem like the kind of person who doesn't let anyone in, but you don't bother to mask the fact." Quiet eyes focusing back on the brownrider, "Someone who has been disappointed by the world and so tells the world to fuck off." The curse word sounding awkward even as the scribe says it. "I suppose it doesn't have much to do with anything really, more than making you difficult to understand. Which has merit in it's own right I imagine."

The brownrider eyes the scribe with a face that's mostly unreadable when Edyis looks her way. But there's something there that suggests she's gotten close enough to the mark to make Jadzia have to think about it. And there's something uncomfortable about that. "I think I'm ready to head back," is what she says, unhelpfully, as she starts gliding her way toward where her clothes are.

The focus doesn't really go away, though Edyis doesn't stare either. Cataloging the reaction away like so many other little details she notices. Any further comment is cut off by the scribe's own slog to her clothes, loathe to depart the warm comfort of the spring. "Someday I hope someone surprises you." She decides finally. Dressing as quickly as shivering limbs will allow.

Jadzia would rather deal with the cold around her wet body while she hurries into her clothes than talking about anything that might resemble feelings or anything. Her only answer is, "Seems unlikely. But I have Sav." So it might not matter anyway. Once they're both dressed, Savroveth is at the ready to take them home.
