Esraval's Extra Guards

Involves: Fort Weyr, Fort Hold
Type: Update
What: Esraval's concern has paid off, and the extra guards continue throughout the Fort region.
When: Day 13, Month 7, Turn 22 (Interval 10)
OOC Notes: Please feel free to make up NPCs who might be playing host to guards, or to assume that guards have taken up residence with your personal family if you have a background that is Fort-local. Riders will be bumping into these guards on patrols and you're welcome to play out scenes wherein guards and riders mix it up, since the Weyrleader is also running air-based patrols. References to the guards in scenes are also more than welcome and their presence could be an impetus for putting a stop to Weyr-based patrols: "Hey, why are /we/ patrolling if the Hold has guards posted everywhere? Isn't this a hold matter? We're sick of doing the hold's work for Esraval and not getting the credit." Or if your character is in favor of continuing with Weyr-based patrols, to support that position instead.

Keeping all those extra guards on retainer may have raised eyebrows here and there when it appeared that the raiders had been eradicated once for all, but in the wake of the recent apprehension in Peyton's outlying hills, now-Lord Esraval's apparent caution has certainly proven to be a good thing. Smallholders throughout the Fort Area, particularly those in areas that saw heavy raider activity in the recent turns, have requested and received increased support in the form of small companies of Fort guards being posted out to their areas. These groups are being housed either at the Holds, or at Waystations along the roads, their purpose being to ferret out any stubborn pockets of raiders that remain and to protect traders and travellers from the depredations of such folk. While surely such measures are expected to be temporary, these guards look to be settling in comfortably for long stays -- just more evidence of the new Lord's concern for the welfare of the people within the region, certainly.
