Lilabet is fifteen.

Lilabet writes epics; she takes current events and turns them into songs, preserving history for generations to come. They're probably not... well, no. They're definitely not yet of the quality that means people will perform them for generations to come, but they will be, one day. It's not just Lilabet's confidence on that front; her teachers say the same. She's good with words, and she has a solid grasp of how things work-- politics, current events, interactions of people.

It makes her quite a traditional student. She fits in with the apprentices studying law and history and teaching; she's practical, in a way a some of her artistic classmates aren't. She doesn't have... the artistic temperament. She's not a performer.

She's been at the Hall for three turns, now. She's got a long way ahead of her, but that's okay; Lilabet is comfortable as an apprentice. She'd like to be posted somewhere, in the next few turns, so that she can be where things happen, and where Master composers aren't already present to write what she might. But that's not for a while; there's so much more to learn, first.

Between Master Suireh and Journeyman Kairek, she has 'family' to supervise her. It probably makes her mother feel better, although these days, Madilla's around a lot more, she's at the Healer Hall a lot more, and that's just next door, close enough to pop over for lunch. Sometimes, Lilabet wishes they'd all go away and leave her alone. How can she grow up and be her own person if there are so many people around who still think of her as a child?

... but she also knows it's not quite that dire. That she's fifteen, and it's pretty much inevitable that she'll find things to bitch and moan about. She tries not to. She tries to be rational and sensible.

Which is easier said than done when it comes to... well. He's cute. And a drummer. Sure, drum codes are often just about communication, but they can be for music, too, and that's what Damir does. He and a few other apprentices have a group and they play together. It's... not the kind of music Lilabet would write, but it's amazing; it makes her feel alive.

He makes her feel alive, too. He just has to smile at her, with that hair flopping over his eyes, and...

It turns her legs to jelly.

It's love. It has to be. She knows she's young, and that most people don't fall in love until they're much, much older, but she's sure of it, deep down. All he has to do is look at her!

He doesn't really talk to her, but... there's a yet there, she's sure of it. She's only fifteen and a third turn student; he's seventeen (nearly seventeen) and a fourth turn, and why would he look at her? She's still gawky, still growing into her height, still... a good girl. Boring.

But one day. She'll keep offering to help out, and one day he'll actually turn around and go, "Lilabet, you're amazing. Marry me."

Except... maybe not marry.

That would mean she couldn't Impress. And she does... she thinks she does... well, it's complicated.

She loves being a harper. She loves all of it, even all the boring, hard bits. If she were to accept Search, she'd be giving up on that. She'd never be Master Lilabet.

She wants all of it.

Why isn't it possible to do everything?

Why do you always have to choose?
