Garden Patio Ledge, High Reaches Weyr

Partly sheltered by the curving stone overhang, partly exposed to the weather, the wide stone patio serves as a balcony for socializing or just plain drinking on a sizable scale. The repurposed ledge might once have let two large dragons land, but now there's too much furniture for that: two rustic tables with attendant chairs, plus a couple more in particularly good weather, and a wrought iron bench situated to make the most of the view of the western bowl and the lake beyond.

Other changes include rough little niches carved out of the stone walls to hold glows in colored bottles at night, the climbing plant that's being trained to grow up along the overhang, and the blue ceramic pots of flowers that dot the edge of the ledge as a colorful reminder not to fall off.

An archway leads to the Snowasis itself, housed in the ledge's former weyr, while a few wide steps descend along the wall to the bowl.

Fog begins to coalesce in the very early morning hours and lingers throughout the day, soft and still and clammy.

The Garden Patio Ledge isn't really a popular place on this spring night. It's mostly being used for coming and going and for a group of riders too far into their cups despite the hour still being relatively early (after dinner by a few hours but not yet bedtime for most over the age of eight) and too loud for the place inside. The fog still lingers and the chill of the air steals through lighter garments, though nowhere near as biting as it once was, now that spring is here. X'vae sits alone in a chair at one of the tables, a tumbler in his hand, sipping occasionally at the amber colored liquid as blue-grey-today eyes travel across the sea of fog which reflects the glows well enough to limit vision. Somewhere not far from the edge of that ledge is Izazeth, tail swishing patterns in the haze that vanish as quickly as they come.

L'sha seems to be one of the ones coming instead of going. He climbs up from the bowl toward the Snowasis and glances over toward the patio ledge, where something draws his eye. He makes a detour to the patio and wanders over to the table that X'vae's occupying. Once he gets through the fog, he smiles at the other rider. "Hi there. Mind if I join you?"

"Pull up a chair," the blonde gestures to the younger man with his glass, his eyes drawing away from the fog in the bowl and to the speaker with an easy smile. "X'vae," he offers just as easily, "Izazeth's rider," shifting so he can offer his free hand.

L'sha grins at the bluerider and pulls out one of the chairs at the table, making an embarrassingly loud scraping noise. He winces, then sits. "L'sha, green Rillaeth's." He takes X'vae's hand and shakes firmly. "Some fog we've got here! But, at least it's not snowing. You're a transfer, aren't you? Did you come in with Savannah?"

"Well met, L'sha." There's genuine warmth in the bluerider's return. "The fog is something else," has admiration. "It's a nice change from the snow, though I can't say that I really tired of it while it was here," which is an accomplishment, really, for a transfer from a warm climate. "From Monaco, yes," X'vae confirms it readily and with another of his smiles, taking a sip from his drink. "Can I get you something?" He offers, though there's no hint of anything beyond good manners and friendliness in the tone to indicate motivation. "I-- well, we, really, came separately. My friend, Z'riah, and I. Back a month or so before turnover." So they've (presumably) all survived their first winter. "Are you from here? You seem to have your finger on the pulse of the Weyr," knowing that he's a transfer and all.

L'sha chuckles. "Well, get used to the snow, you'll be seeing a lot of it. Sure, I'll have, um...one of whatever you're having, I guess." He smiles and crosses one leg over the other. His smile freezes a bit when X'vae mentions Z'riah. "Ah, yes, I've met Z'riah. Yes, I grew up here. Well, I can't say that, really, but I like to keep up on the local gossip and rumors. So, Z'riah's your...weyrmate?"

"I like snow. We used to get it in the winter for the turns I was at Healer Hall." X'vae smiles for that, a fond reminiscence in his look. Maybe this isn't his first, "Whiskey," he leans to whistle toward one of the nearby servers with her back to him. At first she looks a touch affronted, but seeing it's him, she laughs like it's some inside joke and he holds up two fingers. One for L'sha and another for him. That done, he looks back to the greenrider with a look of one who answers that question a lot, "Roommate. Clutchmate. Not weyrmate. In that sense, anyway. We're just friends." He doesn't seem defensive about it though, so that's something. "I take it from your look that you weren't enamored with him." There's amusement there and tolerance. He must know the other greenrider is an acquired taste. "Well, if you hear anything interesting I ought to know, do let me know. I'm awful at getting updates myself."

L'sha smirks. "Well, that's good, 'cause we've got plenty of it." He blinks as the bluerider orders a drink in a brusque manner, but shrugs when the server laughs. "Well, not really. First time I met him, Z'riah tried to take another rider's cane from him. Didn't make much of a first impression. He is very pretty, though. Just friends, eh? So you and he never...not once? Izazeth never caught...uh..." He blanks on Z'riah's green's name.

X'vae has a smile for the first, warm, appreciative. Snow. "It was impressive." He adds for emphasis. Then, however, he needs to raise a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose. "Yeah, that--" sounds like him. "Not one of his finer moments. He has better," moments, if that helps. The hand drops away, "Oh, well, Zaz caught Yizibeth her first time up. But that doesn't really count for things. We're all riders." Which is to say it happens, right? No big deal... even if there's a touch of pink to his cheeks. That could be the whiskey.

L'sha smiles warmly at the server as she brings their whiskey. He takes his glass and raises it to X'vae. "Welcome to High Reaches!" He takes a small sip and winces again at the burn when it goes down. "Heh, sorry, I'm not much of a whiskey drinker, really. I prefer the mixed drinks they make up at the Snowasis." He nods his head toward the bar, then grins slyly at X'vae and leans over the table a bit. "Hmm, I had a feeling...But I understand completely. So, since you and he are just friends, does that mean you're unattached?" His eyebrows give a barely-perceptible upward twitch.

His "thanks," is genuine even if L'sha might be a handful of months late. "You could've gotten what you preferred," X'vae points out with a chuckle. His congeniality becomes a little restrained at that question, his laugh a little awkward. "Sort of. I'm-- I left someone behind in Monaco. Keep hoping she'll change her mind and move here with me, only it's been enough months now that I'm not holding out much hope anymore. She's-- stubborn. Another acquired taste, like Z'riah, but different." Like him in that she's also an acquired taste. "We're not together anymore." So technically yes, but maybe sort of no.

L'sha droops a bit at X'vae's answer and sighs. "Well, if you ask me, she's crazy, letting a nice, sweet guy like you get away." He takes another sip of whiskey, then looks at the glass. "No, not my preference, but a nice change of pace. Anyway, I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding someone here if she never wises up and follows you."

There's that laugh again, the one that's just a little bit nervous. "Well, thanks. I'm--" X'vae pauses to take a drink, polishing off the end of his and reaching for the new one. "Riyah means a lot to me. She's-- carrying my-- we're having a baby." Awkward much? "So if I have to wait a million turns..." He's probably hoping it doesn't take that long. He swallows down his drink in a pair of gulps, no visible burn showing beyond a hissed exhale. "I'm going to go settle up with Carlotta," the server, presumably. "Nice to meet you, L'sha. Clear skies and all that," he has one last friendly smile for the greenrider before he's sliding out of the booth to go exchange some words, a few laughs and, of course, marks with the woman that brought the drinks.

L'sha's eyebrows lift and he gives a little inhale of surprise. "Oh, congratulations! Well, it's only just a short trip between if you ever need to see her." He melts a bit when X'vae talks about waiting for Riyah. "Nice to meet you. Clear skies! Thanks for the drink!" He sighs again and slumps back in his chair, then stands and heads for the Snowasis.
