Garden Patio Ledge, High Reaches Weyr

Partly sheltered by the curving stone overhang, partly exposed to the weather, the wide stone patio serves as a balcony for socializing or just plain drinking on a sizable scale. The repurposed ledge might once have let two large dragons land, but now there's too much furniture for that: two rustic tables with attendant chairs, plus a couple more in particularly good weather, and a wrought iron bench situated to make the most of the view of the western bowl and the lake beyond.

Other changes include rough little niches carved out of the stone walls to hold glows in colored bottles at night, the climbing plant that's being trained to grow up along the overhang, and the blue ceramic pots of flowers that dot the edge of the ledge as a colorful reminder not to fall off.

An archway leads to the Snowasis itself, housed in the ledge's former weyr, while a few wide steps descend along the wall to the bowl.

It's still early enough in winter that the snow is considered 'fun' by plenty of young children, rather than 'miserable and cold and why isn't it spring yet.' Thus, there's a group of them throwing snowballs and making snowmen out in the bowl, and clearly having a wonderful time of it. Madilla - clearly supervising - has retreated up to the Garden Patio Ledge, where she can sit upon a blanket-covered bench and sip something steaming from the mug she's holding in both hands.

Hana comes out from the other direction - though it's even odds on if she got her own steaming drink from within, or brought it through. There is a pause in the step of the beshawled one, then a bit of a quiet laugh, "I hope I am not interrupting you?" she asks, in acknowledgement of - well - the fact they'd had a similiar idea.

Madilla's head turns, and though it's likely she was already smiling, it blossoms into something broader and brighter now. "Not at all," she says, firmly. "Come and sit, Hana. To be honest, I'd quite like the company. My youngest does insist on playing with the older children, and that means I've no choice but to supervise, however responsible her sister is, and... well." There's only so much watching, alone in the snow, a person can do.

Hana gladly takes the seat, letting out a bit of a sigh as her feet rejoice in their new situation, "Understandable, although I'm certain it makes for a nice break from following after," she muses, lifting her mug to take a small, warming sip. There's a askance glance through the steam, before she offers, "Could always offer... *ahem* overhead distraction to the group?" Assuming one is any good at snowballs, that is.

Madilla's laugh is a merry one. "That's always an option," she agrees, green-eyed gaze slipping from the other woman and back towards the children. Little Raija is clearly outclassed, a toddler amidst a group of children several times her age. Still, for the moment she seems to be enjoying herself. Something about the sight, though, makes the healer sigh. "My son is going to live with his father, after the end of the turn," she says, quietly. High Reaches Hold. Devaki. "And his older sister will be apprenticing with the Harpers. I should enjoy this while I can."

Hana laughs quietly along, nodding a bit before mention of her old home, so to speak, is mentioned. "For a visit, or fostering?" she asks after a moment, before nodding at mention of the harpers, "As much as possible - and Raija will probably be glad to spend time with you, missing her sibs?" she offers as a faint salve to the upcoming absenses.

"Fostering, I suppose you'd call it. Just for a turn." Madilla's expression suggests she's still not entirely comfortable with the prospect, though she's equally resigned to it: it is what it is. "I know Devaki will look after him, and Issedi, too, despite her feelings on his existence. It's just... difficult." Of Raija, she nods, her expression more wry. "I'm not sure how she's going to cope with that kind of upheaval," she admits. "But we'll manage."

"She will be fine, and he will too," says the woman who's parents never seperate, and who never had kids. "Are the two older ones looking forward to the changes, at least?" she asks, before tacking on, "And there could always be visits, I would think."

Madilla smiles, clearly rueful for her own mixed emotions, though she accepts Hana's words with a nod. "Oh, there will definitely be visits. I'm sure they'll be fine. I'm sure we all will be. They-- yes, they're looking forward. Lily's wanted this for turns; she's been so impatient. And Dilan, well. He'll be glad to be with his brother more often. I'm not sure it's quite sunk in that he'll be leaving the rest of us, though." She lowers her gaze towards her mug, considering it levelly for a few moments before adding, "But. That's the way it goes, isn't it? How are you, Hana?"

"Well, I'm sure they'll both be fine - even little Rai," Hana needlessly assures, before grinning. "And Lily needs to come visiting with plenty of new dance tunings for me to learn," she teases, before lifting a shoulder, "Well enough - and keeping busy." Busier, might be the term, given the skydancing just so recently finished.

Madilla's laugh, now, is warmer and more relaxed, as though even just talking about her emotions has helped - temporarily, at least. "I'm sure she'll be delighted," she says. She takes a sip from her mug, then, holding the warm liquid in her mouth for a few moments before she swallows. "Mmm. I'm sure. At least things are quiet, as they go - aside from the flight, I mean. Tithes and hold relations and the whole bit. The prospect of eggs always helps, too, somehow. Lilabet's disappointed to miss them."

Hana shakes her head and grins - the last couple of turns has, at least, rubbed much of the holdershine off the eggs, "Well, she could always help in the kitchens instead - especially on the feast days. See the eggs, never want to see food again - or at least until the next meal. And it being quiet is such a nice change..."

"Never!" But Madilla's laughing. "Lilabet has a life plan, you see. She'll be a Harper, but in a few turns, she'll get herself Searched, and then she'll Impress a green dragon, just like her father." The healer's tone is affectionate. "And Dilan intends to Impress a brown just like H'kon's Arekoth. This is what growing up in a Weyr does to you, I suppose."

Hana grins, wry. "Well, they're not bad plans - though I'm not so sure they'll work out just as the pair are planning. What does Arekoth think of having a miniture mirror?" she asks, before burying her face in the mug, inhaling steam before working on the tea.

Madilla turns her gaze back onto Hana, smiling crookedly. "Mm," she agrees. "Nothing ever works out exactly the way we planned it, does it? If you'd told my eleven turn old self how things turned out for me... she'd never have believed you. Life doesn't work that way." Glancing back at the children, she says, "Arekoth adores Dilan, as far as I can see. I suspect he indulges the idea, though surely no dragon could be as great as he is. He... Arekoth has even spoken to Dilan. They're going to miss each other."

Despite all her time at the weyr, she's still not had much to do with the other half of the Weyr - after all, the one she'd have the most to do with is a certain warrior queen. "I didn't think they did that - and I wouldn't doubt that. I imagine he.. they have a lock on any visit trips?" she offers, with a hint of teasing.

"They don't," says Madilla. "Not often, anyway. Vrianth reached for me, once, when Leova was injured," and yes, her expression is solemn in remembrance for that particular situation, "But I've not heard many other occasions of it." With a twitch of a smile, she adds, "Oh yes. I'm quite sure of it. I know... H'kon will miss him, too. We'll all go."

Hana takes a deep draught of the tea, then nods, "So then - it will be an outing to look forward to, and enjoy. With that to look towards, any bumps along the way should work out fine - and it isn't like they are in Ista. That would be so much worse!"

"True," agrees Madilla. "Not that anywhere is so very far, when you're travelling by dragon... but it would feel further, I think. Even after all these turns, I still think of distance physically." She glances down at her mug, now largely empty and certainly no longer warm. "And Dilan will come back. He's still too young to leave for good." Her gaze falls back to the children: Lilabet has Raija on her shoulders now, and the toddler is flinging snow with abandon. "I should get them inside before they freeze," she says.

Hana nods, "And I've some things to work upon. Go warm them up, and enjoy the evening together, hm?" She gets to her feet easily enough, then grins, "Well, I just never wish to go to Ista - it sounds far too uncomfortable!"

"Ista's not so bad," is Madilla's answer to that as she stands, shaking snow off of herself. "Especially when it's like this, here. I take the point, though. Have a good one, Hana." It goes without saying that she'll enjoy what time she has, surely; she's beaming as she climbs down the stairs, scooping Raija off of Lilabet's shoulders, and escorting them home.
