At twilight on this near-autumn day, so many opt to go outdoors and enjoy the last of the warm weather before the winter's chill begins to creep down from the mountaintops. Not so many that it leaves the caverns entirely quiet, and Brieli is there amidst it all, in a seat near a major thoroughfare, industriously stitching at a skirt. The din doesn't seem to disturb her, though dark eyes flicker up now and again to mark a departure, a passing.

Toren comes in from the living cavern after having a meal and he has his guitar with him. He smiles as he moves to find a seat and he takes the guitar out of the case and he tunes it for a moment before he starts to play a quiet song for those around.

It's the music that has Brieli's gaze shifting up and over to the boy with the guitar, if only momentarily. She's back to her very careful, very small stitches afterward, long fingers quick and nimble, though she raises a calm, cultured voice above buzz of the cavern and music both to ask, "You're a harper apprentice? Been posted here very long?"

Toren gives a smile towards Brieli, "Hello there, my name's Toren, yes I am, I arrived a couple months ago with my parents, they are harpers too." He continues to play his guitar with a low volume.

"Brieli." The seamstress returns the smile politely, nodding towards the guitar. "That's usually a hint. I'm not exactly an aficionado, but it sounds nice. Do your parents play?" Bending her dark head over the stitching, she ties off a knot, snapping the thread rather than cutting it. As she lifts her work to examine it, "I just got here a short time ago. How have you found it so far?"

Toren smiles, "It's nice to meet you Brieli, that's a very pretty name." He nods, "Yes they both are harpers, my mother is here to teach the weyr children and my father is here to teach the advanced class for any children he finds that might be harpers and I'm here to learn."

With a quick nod, "Thank you. I think it was my mother's idea." Brieli seems to consider whatever needed to be mended on the skirt good enough and folds it to drop it into a basket at her feet before finding another one in a bag beside it. Looking for the tear, "Here to learn. Learn what? And what have you learned so far? Anything interesting?"

Toren continues to play, "You are welcome. Well to learn about live and to learn more songs. Yes I've learned a lot about life so far, also about playing in front of a crowd, especially ones that are not friendly." Arching her brows curiously, Brieli glances sidelong towards Toren. "About life and unfriendly crowds. Do tell. I don't know much about crowds, unfriendly or otherwise. I've tended to avoid them, but who knows if I'll have to work with one while I'm here?"

Toren hmms, "Well one of the first times that I tried to play at the tavern here I got food thrown at me by some of the patrons, but recently I went to a sailor's bar with a riders and I was a big hit with them. I'm in front of crowds all the time, it's amazing when you can feed off a crowd's energy."

"Why did they throw food at you? And did you stop playing?" Brieli rethreads her needle, ready to start mending a long tear. "I think I might take that as a hint. And I'm not sure I'd want to feed off that energy." With a little shrug, "I suppose if you're a hit, it must be different. Why do you think do you did better with the sailors than here?"

Toren hmms, "Well it was only two people that threw food at me and one of them was a girl didn't like me cause I was rather insistent that she'd be good as a harper, but I did apologize to her before she threw food at me and i think a blue rider who was her friend so of course would take her side." He shrugs a little bit, "Probably cause I song a whole bunch of dirty songs for them."

Brieli nods slowly as she works, noting idly, "Some people don't like being told what to do. I don't like being told what to do." She quirks a grin Toren's way before turning her attention back to her stitches, dark gaze narrowing on them as they multiply. With a sudden laugh, "That would likely do it. It'd probably work for miners, and they're not noted for loving dirty songs."

Toren nods, "Yah it was a great bar, I hope that I can go again." He sighs softly as he continues to play, "But it's in Tillek so I need a rider take me there." He nods, 'I'll have to remember that."

Curious, "Do riders go off to bars all over often?" Brieli pulls a stitch tight, glancing over to Toren, brows raised a touch. "Just wondering - I haven't been out of Crom much, so..." She shrugs, perhaps embarrassed. "Nice of them to offer rides. And yes, do remember. It doesn't take much to put a miner in a good mood. Just avoid talk of mines."

Toren shrugs, 'I don't know, but E'gin offered to take me and it was quiet an experience." He smiles, "So what brings you here to the Weyr?" He nods, "Yah it is great that they do offer rides, I'll remember that, no songs about mines."

"What brings me to the Weyr. I wasn't entirely happy with things at Crom, and thought that the Weyr might be more interesting. It's a common story, I'm sure. Fortunately, the Weyr is always in need of people to do mending." Brieli lifts her work with a smile that only shades a little wry. Sliding needle through fabric, "I didn't think there would be songs about mines. They don't seem all that poetic to me."

Toren hmms, "Well if you like I could try to find some for you, I'm not too great at making up songs, but I'm great at playing them." He smiles, "Well you've come to the right place the Weyr is always interesting, lots of people to meet and hang out with." He continues to play.

Quickly, "No." Brieli summons a smile and adds, "Thank you. No, thank you. I've heard enough stories for a lifetime, songs would be too much." As she stitches, giving Toren a brief glance, "Well, as a harper, you must meet most of the people, passing through or otherwise. Who should I know about, in your informed opinion?"

Toren hmms, "Well you should meet E'gin he's cool and he's the one that took me to the sailor's bar to play with the top..." He coughs a little bit as he continues to play, "And there is K'del, he's the Weyrleader he's nice, Hypatia's nice too she's a healer and there is Azaylia, she's a bit shy, but she's nice too she let me see the miracle of birth when some foals were born."

Brieli might raise her brows a bit at Toren's coughing, but she says nothing - merely allows a smile to play about her lips. Dry, "Somehow, I doubt I'd be going to the same place." But she nods once at each name, as if storing it away in her head - as if her hands are working independently of her mind. "The miracle of birth," she echoes, amused for some reason. "I'll make sure to look out for them, most certainly."

Toren nods, "Yes all births are wonderful it brings new life into the world. It's amazing." He says with wide eye wonderment. He continues to play, "So what do you like to do for fun?"

Quirking her mouth, Brieli agrees, "It can be." With a little sigh as she stitches, "Well, it might sound a bit odd, but I mostly like to help out where I can. I'm used to people needing a hand here and there, so it's become a habit to look for projects. Other than that, I enjoy people-watching. People are always interesting, don't you think?"

Toren smiles, "I like to help out too, being a harper is more than just singing and making music." He nods, "People watching can be fun if the people are doing something interesting." He continues to play as he starts a new song, "Have you been swimming out at the lake yet?"

With a surprised glance, "I thought harpers were meant to find people interesting, just by virtue of the job. I think people are almost always doing something interesting. Or pretending they're not." Brieli shifts her attention to where the lake might be, head tilting before, "No. Not much of a swimmer. And it's cooling off now, so I suppose I'm not like to become one soon. Is it... fun?" There might be a teasing note there, but not much of one.

Toren smiles, "I do find people interesting, but I don't want to drudge sweeping all day. I find conversation exciting and engaging with people exiting, not just watching them." He hmms, "Well you should try it's really fun I could teach you."

"Well, I won't try to convince you that you're missing something..." Brieli seems to think that Toren is by her tone, however. "Talk isn't the only way to learn. Anyway." She ties off another knot, snapping the thread with some little satisfaction. Productivity! "I will consider the offer for next summer. But I don't fancy the idea of freezing and drowning all at once."

Toren nods, "Well maybe I'll give it a try to see if I can't see something more about what you are talking about." He smiles, I'll hold you to it than, come summer you'll be swimming like a fish."

Eyeing her work, Brieli seems to judge it good enough to be considered done, folding it up and tossing it in the basket. The bag goes into the basket, the needle in her pincushion, which gets tossed in the basket as well. Enough for the night. "What would the fish do, if people were to swim like them?" she asks, presumably hypothetically. Offering a brief smile, "I should get this all to the laundry now. It was nice meeting you, Toren."

Toren hmms a little bit, "Good question, maybe they will come on land." He grins, "It was nice to meet you too Brieli. I'll see you around."

Brieli gathers her things and heads out, with another quick smile and a wave.
