| After being badgered by a massive pain in the ass that has a way of getting into his head even when he's trying to block him out, there's not much that H'vier can do but show up at Tayte's door the next day to make Reisoth lay off. So that's what he does. The bronzerider lingers outside of the Vintner's room for longer than might seem seemly for anyone passing by. But eventually he knocks on her door, three firm raps against the wood. There's no doubt that the vintner and her girls are at home. Tayte and Yvalia can be heard behind the door with the occasional babble that is Tahvra's contribution to the very important conversation about what the Harper covered in class that day, and how she likes seeing her old friends again and what the newest nearly seven turn old hair trend is, and how she must have a new blue ribbon, pretty please? This kind of night surely includes Tayte brushing Vali's hair while Tavi plays with blocks on the floor. A familiar scene. One which used to include H'vier. So when the door knocks, Vali can be heard to say, "I'll brush her hair!" which must mean Tahvra's and there's a laugh from Tayte. She's still smiling when she opens the door. As soon as her eyes land on H'vier, the door stops opening, leaving it only open a crack. "Are you here for Tahvra?" She asks with a narrowed gaze at the bronzerider. H'vier shifts when the door opens, like he expects it to open all the way and for Tayte to let him inside. But he stops and doesn't even demand she open it when all that's left is a crack to see her through. "I want to talk, Tayte. We need to talk. Please?" Saying please always works. Sometimes. That's not the right answer. If H'vier's not here for Tavi, then there's really one thing Tayte can do. Slam! The door closes in his face. All is silent within for a moment, then the vintner's voice holding a little quaver to it can be heard to say, "Come on girls, it's time for bed." It's way too early for bed. Mommy must need a drink. There's a growl at the door when it slams in his face and he's bold enough to reach for the handle. When he finds it locked, H'vier lifts a hand to hit the door with the flat of his palm. "Open the door and fucking talk to me, Tayte!" That's clearly going to help. Silence again. Then Tavi's uncertain sound - the 'before she cries for real' sound. "It's okay, sweetie." Tayte's voice is brave now, farther from the door. For her girls, but there are no more words for H'vier and she certainly doesn't unlock the door. H'vier hits the door again, this time more obviously out of frustration. He doesn't leave right away, but he doesn't say anything else. Maybe he's hoping to at least hear them if he can't see them. Eventually, though, the bronzerider pushes away from the door and he's gone. |
