| The supply problems that have dogged the Weyr for the last little while are reaching a critical point. The tanners are almost out of virgin hide to cure and turn into strap-grade leather and are very very vocally complaining to anyone who'll listen about the Weyr's inability to provide them with what they need to successfully uphold their contracts. One of them has even mentioned packing up and leaving because he can't get any commission-work without the finer grade leather supplies he's missing. It's not just the tanners either though different crafters and the Weyr's residents are affected at different levels. The smiths are also starting to get stirred up because their supplies of high-grade metals are almost out and all they have left is scrap to melt down. Once again, the finer fabrics except for what's in stores from tithes up from Boll are running short and even the woollens are starting to get affected as the Hold is also starting to feel some pinch and is conserving local wool for the many small weaver halls that dot the region. Prices are also going through the roof, partly due to the counterfeit that keeps turning up: there's too many marks flooding the market and more and more pieces from all different crafts are cropping up as being fakes. Trust in the value of a mark is dropping throughout the Fort region and people are increasingly falling back on trade for purchases they might've used marks for otherwise. Just about the /only/ things the Weyr isn't short on, are food and wood, though coal is a little slim pickings too. Looks like most of the Weyr's heat will, strangely enough, be coming from wood fires this winter. |
