Discharged from the care of Healers, Dragonhealers, Alida and Ilicaeth were ordered to take another day off to recover more before returning to their duties. For once, it was a difficult down time. They went to Ista to feel the tropical warmth, the sloshing of the ocean against skin and hide...and it was little relief. On to Telgar's rolling plains, where the pair watched a thunderstorm in the distance, its mighty towers and anvils awe-inspiring...the scent of ozone and rainy downdrafts touching the air. Finally to Igen's inner desert - only the low moan of the wind and the soft hissing of sands breaking the silence - the woman safe under a beach umbrella packed along, while Ilicaeth rolled around like a giant dog in the grass upon scouring, golden grains, trying to rid himself of things he could not.

Tired and still unable to shake off a large part of their grief, they returned to their grieving Weyr early in the evening, taking dinner and drink back up with them to their private home...Alida eating in heavy silence between Ilicaeth's forelegs. She couldn't even summon up enough bravery, after she was done, to stand and search for her guitar...her tray and plates shoved off to one side in favor of pressing herself into her lifemate's broad chest...while Pyrite remained draped about the back of the blonde's neck.

Like enough other Weyrfolk, soon the guard and her dragon, her pet were all giving voice to the torrents of grief they'd kept mostly-contained in previous days. On and off, hours passed as human and draconids moaned, wept, shouted their helplessness and emptiness to the rocky walls...their anger to the sky that dared to continue to shine brightly after they'd lost Zay and Hrae.

When all three finally fell into slumber, it was together in the blue's wallow...the first solid sleep they'd had in three days. Maybe, in the morning, they might now begin the long path towards healing more than sore muscles and burned skin.
