| K'del sat, his trousers rolled up as close to his knees as they could get, his feet soaking in the cool water of the lake. It was a beautiful, summer afternoon, the day before his turnday, and he was thoroughly enjoying himself. For once, Cadejoth was not in the lake alongside him, though there were plenty of children to play with; he sent out a tendril of thought towards the bronze, curious. In response, he got a sense of blinding whiteness, of cold: « Iovniath's going to rise. Not yet. But-- it'll be time, soon. » K'del got the sense of a couple of days, not soon as in today, and sat back, suddenly disgruntled. She better not go on my turnday. That'd be a pain, having to leave. « Leave? » Yes. Leave. We can't stay for it. You can't chase her. He could feel the bronze's disappointment; he could feel how enmeshed, already, the idea of snow and ice and white was, how eager Cadejoth already was. No, Cadejoth. /No/. « But she's so-- » No. We can't. You can't. Promise me, Cadejoth! He was sitting straight up, now, intense and intent. Cadejoth faltered. He could feel the bronze's resolve teetering. Come down to the lake, Cadejoth. Away from her. Now. He was relieved to see Cadejoth's low glide into the water, a few minutes later. Relieved that the bronze seemed content enough to play with the children, to forget about Iovniath. But. We'll have to leave for it. Soon as we know when it's going to happen. Can't risk it. Not if he's already interested. Won't take the risk. Not after Peirith. He sighed. The afternoon suddenly seemed distinctly less beautiful. |
