In month 8 of turn 28, Iolene's Ysavaeth rises for her maiden flight. Having already worked Cadejoth up, it's no wonder the Weyrleader's bronze chases after her - and it's certainly exactly what she intended, when he catches her.

Having already been unhappy with K'del for letting Cadejoth chase Ali's Isyath at Fort, Tiriana is furious, and attempts to fire him. When he refuses, she breaks his arm.

Concerned by this behaviour, and as a result of previous events, K'del slowly begins to spread the idea that Tiriana is unstable, that perhaps she shouldn't be in a position of power; Iolene does similarly. Tiriana's refusal to show up at the clutching feast after Ysavaeth and Cadejoth's eggs are laid only bolsters their claims, and allows them to be spread further afield, to visiting Weyrleaders from Benden and Southern.

Meanwhile, Fort Weyr is attempting to regain Southern Boll, and Ali seeks out K'del for ideas on how to assist the negotiations. He offers her a deal: High Reaches will give up Boll... if Fort's Weyrleaders will consider voting in his favour at a conclave.
