Well-Loved Childhood Companion Egg

Teonath shifts her weight once uncomfortably to the side and swivels the sinuous curve of her neck to stare in a moment of orange speckled blue-green at her loam hued mate. The trace bits of anger give way after the continued study, and presumable communication, to a calmer blue, the gold pitching a low and controlled snarl towards Sruth, tensing immediately in the wake of the sound. Triple lids fly upward in surprise, wide-eyed in the draconic equivalent of owlishness, before a shudder ripples the golden hide and with little other fanfare the first small egg appears, looking oddly tattered along the edges and burnt in coloring, but well-loved for sure as a prehensile tail curves sand around it protectively.

A nappy klah brown dully coats this egg, as though it had been rolled through a hand-ground mill, exposed to all sorts of calamities, and finally left as forgotten in a corner. Squat and plain, the egg boasts little of note except a texture gradiated enough to almost be visible, which only serves to make it look all the more dirty, and there's a misshapen nub on one side, bearing indents strangely akin to teeth marks. Tatters and scars in its surface are etched in as though a toddler with a charcoal marker had snuck onto the sands and drawn on a lopsided face but overlooked an eye entirely.

Speckles dot the surface of hand-ground brown, glittering with the sheen of the egg goo in those offered cracks. The specks widen, threading into slivered cracks along the textured surface, the wildness of its direction having no rhyme or reason before finally the Well-Loved Childhood Companion egg splits into four pieces, the large chunks crumbling as they hit the ground to leave a dusty surrounding for the rich umber brown once within.

An ethereal base of earthen-hues shimmer across compacted muscles, enveloping the large form of this dragon. Sweeping across the plains of rich umber are deeper streaks that blend seamlessly along his sleek hide, which wind inscrutable patterns up a large triangular head and rather long muzzle, then darken into exceedingly thick eyeridges which seem to obscure view of his small multi-faceted eyes. At odds with the energy that constantly holds the dense frame at a visible ready stance are the softly curved neckridges that trail back down an ample neck and between broad shoulders, each touched by a grace of dam-inspired copper at the tips. Shadows play through brilliant strokes of sienna along the vein-patterning of exquisitely crafted wings, and a final touch of sprinkled sands dot a mild decoration along his back towards a quickly thinned tail.

Temperament

For all the moments where your own blunders seem to take you into a path untrodden. For all the moments when the mundanity of everyone else seems so thick you wish there was a slice of excitement that'd spark in your life. For those moments where you're alone at night and there's a constant, quite comforting undercurrent of nonsensical noise, there is Chakieth. Unpredictable at best, though much of it is youth-inspired, Chakieth brings that element of spice into your life.

From the moment his shell hatches, the sense of disregard for rules Chakieth has is quite obvious. Even when he's still, that undercurrent of excitement and continuous thought reverberates throughout, including you in this most vicarious of rides. Past Impression, and past the part where he introduces you to himself, though he may conveniently skip a step here and there, Chakieth will immediately take to you, as a bonded lifemate should, of course! He'll find you splendid, your schemes and ideas riveting, and run forward heedlessly with some of your more subconscious thoughts, attempting to bring them to fruition without even a by your leave. He has an intense curiosity that's tempered by a general innocence with how the world works, that will lead him astray towards ventures unventured and to create stories as yet untold. It's the innocence, however, that'll cause problems here and there: « Why is Dasmareth's upset? What did I do? Did it have to do with that funny thing that looks like a toy? » The toy, in fact, is the wooden paddle that you'll likely use to oil his sides down.

Dragons have a fairly limited capacity for remembrance, but your eager to zip brown's memory will be even less, surely a trial if it weren't for the way in which he reintroduces himself to each object he figured out the previous day. It'll only be after a long period of adjustment between you and him, that he'll start to remember the day to day things: « That is -meat-. To eat. »

Were it not for your own streak of risk-taking, classes may be a trial, for the moment Chakieth realizes his wings are there to soar, there's nothing that'll stop him from wanting to. The arrogance of « Dasmareth and Melisandeth are not even as large as we are now. We know better, and we _will_ catch our talons into the Star Stones, swing around them and fling ourselves higher, .... or something, » might sometimes be difficult to argue with, and surely may lead to some trouble should you fall into his trap of utter fascination and excitement.

His enjoyment in youth will know no bounds, seek no limits, and indeed he's rarely aware there _are_ limits. Other dragonets are there to play with, sometimes stand out from and be an example of what a true dragon is capable of! And places exist to explore, including the dusty areas beneath your cot.

Chakieth will grow well, his lean gangliness gaining bulk and muscle with time and practice, until he's about average-sized for a brown. The lack of massive size will allow him the mobility needed to do those twists and turns that race silvery-crimson strands of -thrill- shooting through his mind and filling you with the rush of his daredevil ambitions.

Maturation will find him still acting before thinking, though Chakieth will find this inner sense of cool arrogance, a strut, if you will, where he's certain all the ladies (and men) are watching. His antics in adulthood will be more planned out, a little less precocious and have a purpose to much of it (like impressing Kirath with that puffed out umber chest; doing a barrel-roll just as Deneth passes by; or when the shadow of Isorath flies high above, he'll sky-rocket past with an ace up his sleeve to display the vantages his form holds in the air) - though there's that inner core of the wild-side youth within that'll never be completely outgrown.

Other dragons may find him too much sometimes, and then enjoy his companionship at others. Some will find him fascinating and follow in his footsteps, and yet others will sit back and just stare, boggling in the sheer audacity he seems to carry within his frame. But one thing will always hold true: Male or female, outside of flights, they're all the same, and his insufferable aspects are balanced by the absolute loyal affection Chakieth holds for each member of his Weyr, and in particular those of his clutch. He forgets easily enough that slights (and even flight losses) are only a momentary glitch in the scheme of things, and fights with others is almost unheard of. « Be cool, » in youth carries with it an attention-deficient frenzy, while the same words: « Be cool, » as an adult, is smoothed down along the edges and a mental head bobbing accompanies the ever present turmoil of his mind.

Some may question his intent in flights: whether it is to catch the green or gold, or outfly her. Whether he's in it for the exhilaration of the chase, or he is out for some nookie. Whatever the case may be, never will his wings extend as much, or his attempts to impress greater as during the bloodlust of a flight, and should he win, the descent down to the ground won't be some easy floating glide along thermals, but another chance to wow his conquest. Unfortunately, even wins are difficult for him to keep track of, and while he'll remember for a breath longer than most other events or information, she too, will become a faded thought, only remembered when he thinks to delve into your own mind. Should he lose, he's good-natured in that respect, with a comment to you, « You need a better plan, » fleeting to be sure as he attempts to drown the heated blood within his veins with a lake bath.

Public Impression Message

Captivated by Wanderlust Brown's antics come to an end, his inspection complete, and his decision made. Now, all that matters is for the decision to become clear to him and those who are watching -- for the audience is always there to please. A second sweep of those on the sands, beginning with a striking devil-may-care look towards his parents, concludes with his gangly limbs settling before an equally gawky looking adolescent. A low growl emits, testing the resolve of this one, and the stare of thick-ridged eyes are heavy onto this boy, before his short tail swings around, sending a dust cloud into the air to claim him. Triumphantly, with a unfurling of his magnificent wings, his!

Private Impression Message

Turmoil swirls in monochrome, two-toned white and black streaking through along the tail end of a flash of light. Thought? Sound? Everything is silent somehow, between your ears, your mind alarmingly blank so that everything has a poignancy, from the absolute pitch dark of nothing, to the soft sounds that seem to touch at the surface of your mind. But it's hard to tell -- so quiet almost as if people are whispering behind your back in an almost, but not quite, soundproofed room. The muted words draw closer, becoming no more intelligible for its proximity though definitely louder and suddenly one comment, sarcastic, leaps out midst the jumble: « Too old. Too ugly. Just... » And then a pause, questioning, drawing this one word within and inspecting further. « ...right. You are mine, because we are us. And I am Chakieth, S'vorin! »

Mindvoice

A constant presence in Chakieth's touch is a thrum of activity beneath any veneer of discernible speech or thought, and in the beginning this may require some adjusting to. Even when asleep, Chakieth's mind will seem active, racing through and processing each of the day's events in some scattered jumble of thought that makes sense to him, and thus _should_ make sense to you -- but sometimes, it's just not gettable at all. With all this thinking, you'd expect him to remember, but unless each processed memory is stored somewhere deep within that neither you nor he can access, it's unlikely he'll remember much from day to day like many a dragon. With all that thinking, you'd also expect him to think more when awake, but that seems to be almost an impossibility for Chakieth, as he's very much a do now, think later (way, way later), sort of guy. A fogginess shrouds his mind, though every color of the rainbow seems to be at the mind's fingertips to draw on to spark each image to life. As he grows older, the fog of his coherent speech gains a swaggering aloofness, a jive if you will that rhythmically paces throughout his thoughts.

Dragon Inspirations

Chakieth is comprised of elements from a variety of Jim Henson's creative genius: Traveling Matt (the innocent explorer of 'Outer Space' for the Fraggles) and Animal (for that slice of insanity and impractical leaps of faith). His appearance draws loosely from that of Boober Fraggle; the fringe of hair that sits right above his eyes a testament to the somewhat blind faith he may have in you at times. Traveling Matt provides the necessary bits to temper a very wild Animal. Animal as a member of the Muppet Band (drummer), is the inspiration for adulthood and the 'cool' attitude, because while Animal may not be very cool about it all, drummers are the coolest cats in a band (or so says my biased self), after the bass players. Play as you will, the disclaimer is he is yours to decide how to best play to fulfill all your plans and purposes.

Name Inspiration: His name, Chakieth, is derived from Jackie Chan, famous for doing his own stunts and concocting the most harebrained of scene blockings in his movies.

Egg Inspiration: For all the teddy bears and velveteen rabbits that have been loved to the point of demise.
