Raindrops on Roses Egg
Quick on the heels of the bubbles is a dark rose that sits elegantly, perched against a spiral of red, neither movement of hide, nor accordance by sire preceding it's arrival. It might have been overlooked for its smallish size if it weren't for the brilliance of its deep colors that seems to settle a sense of peace in the dragon. Or else she's completely been drained by the ordeals of the day. Sruth is gentle in his nudge, the slender muzzle lowering to the gold neck that curls on the sands, tracing up her spine before pivoting to check on the nearby sapphire of another egg, keeping his tail within reach.
Dark, rich magenta reaches up in swaths from the basin of color at the base of this egg, gradually giving way to soft pinks. Subtle shading lines separate each concentration of color into petals, unfurling deceptively outward in an inviting faux-dimensional embrace. Timorously dotting these shaded shapes are a scattering of precariously placed clear blots resembling droplets of translucent water captured mid-beading and likely to remain frozen there despite the heat of the sands.
Raindrops on Roses Egg trembles as hairline cracks continue blossoming into wider ones, until the fractured shell falls away like water, revealing a small, precisely molded brown hatchling.
Weathered Regard Brown
Slight and compact, this brown dragonet's small body is unusual for its near-perfect proportions. Possessing none of the gangly tails or unkempt wings of some of his clutchmates, he is imbued with a certain inarguable strength, as if his potential is ill-concealed beneath the coarse muscles of his light brown hide. Lighter tones peak in slight hints of gray upon his headknobs, though he is palest along the path of his neckridges, a dusty trail of tan striping his back. A darker shade of well-brewed klah extends from his slim belly to his maw, and his slim wings unfold to a palette of earthy hues, darkening from the light tan along his spine to the deep carob of his fingerjoints. The blending and swirling of colors present a visual of desert to dusk stirring into this particular dragon's pot, an illusion mirrored around his deeply-shaded eyes.
Temperament
Tiqueth is an interesting paradox: calm yet rabble-rousing, odd yet conventional, good-humored but obsessively critical. « Well, that landing wasn't very good, was it? My favorite part was yesterday. » We didn't do landings, yesterday, you'll tell him. « Exactly. » Tiqueth himself, of course, is all but infallible -- according to him -- and would hardly pay attention to anyone who critcized his perfection. Even words from you will take some extra effort to get through to him.
Tiqueth is very smart and extremely quick-witted, which will be both an asset and a royal pain during weyrlinghood. His rapid-fire mind will forever be on top of the day's chores and lessons, but his sly, biting comments to his clutchmates may be disruptive - if not for them, for you. He will learn, however many efforts it may take to make him listen, and his assurance that he already knows everything there is to know will only take the slightest testings before he'll agree to hear how it really works. His natural strength and compact grace will aid him well, deterring clumsy mistakes - but also pinpointing those that are made.
Tiqueth enjoys teasing and appreciates a certain brand of sarcasm that may escape most literal-minded dragons. His remarks -- on lessons, the weather, your outfits, his barrackmates -- are best heard only be you, for they're rather critical most of the time. In fact, he'll often have a punchline for some of his snappy, witty remarks, and though it's easy to appreciate the humor, « Sari, I do hope thats' the last we'll hear from Melisandeth's rider, he's -- oh, there he goes again. Someone needs to pull him off that rock with a hook... » it's also occasionally hurtful. « Deneth's gotten awfully fat. I think the barracks are tilting to one side. » As he's not apt to keep his comments to himself, you'll have to teach him the beauty of a well-placed, tactful remark -- and then, he'll have everyone laughing.
In flights, your Tiqueth will use both size and strength to his advantage, able to put on bursts of speed as well as endure longer than many of the blues, as long as he reserves some of his energy. Not that he'd notice, because Tiqueth will tell you that he can outfly any dragon in the Weyr. Obviously. He loves a challenge, and so you might find the females he teases most to be the ones most doggedly chased. Another interesting aspect of your brown is the way a proddy female can occasionally affect him - one he's especially close to, a clutchmate, or even merely one -that- close to rising - will considerably change the way he carries himself and the way he interacts with you, and so you'll be likewise affected, distracted by his musings on the curve of that haunch and the gleam of that eye.
Tiqueth will eventually learn which of his friends can appreciate his special brand of humor, and which will require him to limit his comments for your ears alone. You may find that his steady stream of opinions is in fact capable of swaying your own mindset, despite how differently you might originally think. Should you become too close to someone Tiqueth doesn't approve of, for example, he'll step up the comments and you might find yourself buying into some of what your lifemate says. After all, he knows you best of anyone. But even dragons - and especially your dragon - can have ulterior motives, and he may just as soon attempt to put one and one together as well as dividing two -- fortunately, you know him equally as well as he knows you.
Everyone's a critic. Tiqueth's just especially good at it.
Public Impression Message
Weathered Regard Brown moves out of a stumbling step just before the tangle, lifting one wing high to avoid that foreclaw and almost tipping from the shift of his weight. It's in that next save, however, that his proud neck turns toward something very interesting indeed. Gone are the careful considerations, for this frosted blue-eyed candidate before him is his final destination.
Private Impression Message
A voice surfaces, somewhere in the back of your mind, as though fading up from a soft mute. « That one. You. » In that address, the volume is so suddenly turned up, you wonder how you ever managed to *avoid* hearing him. Him, your Tiqueth, your lifemate. « That's all well and good, dear Sarisia, but you do realize I'm hungry. » And so you do - in fact, it feels as though you are, yourself, the slow ache in your stomach oddly mirroring the encroaching warmth upon your heart. « The best part's just happened, » and nothing else matters, to be sure. « Let's leave early and get some food. »
Mindvoice
Steadfastly unique throughout all of his witty, biting charm, your Tiqueth's mindvoice is a constant lilt and turn of phrase, a quirk here and there to best gift his remarks with choice emphasis. He's never deliberate, or so it would seem, but you manage to pick up on every subtle gesture of mind. He often communicates in images and colors, especially if something doesn't deserve his words -- or, if he is too impressed by something to make fun of it. (It can happen.) Soft in its mix with your thoughts, gentle in his addresses to you, and sharply cornered in all other forums, Tiqueth's mind-touch is at once unpredictable and exceedingly familiar.
Dragon Inspirations
Your brown was inspired by a pair of Muppets from The Muppet Show: Statler and Waldorf, known more for their heckling commentary on the poor performers than for their actual names (both taken from famous New York City hotels). Statler and Waldorf sat in their balcony box seats, show after show, and complained about the quality of the acts, the type of performers, the instruments, the musical numbers - everything and anything was made that much funnier by their steady stream of snide remarks. They played off of each other in much the way that you and Tiqueth will play off of one another.
Name Inspiration: Tiqueth is from the word critique, something you'll be very, very familiar with.
Egg Inspiration: As the name suggests, the beauty and calm of raindrops on roses, though there are no whiskers on kittens here.
