Nothing But A Winner Egg

In comparison to some garishly colored clutchmates, this egg is smooth, slick white-and still no less striking for it. It /sparkles/, myriad tiny flecks of shinier shell catching the light and throwing it back, in stark contrast to its plain matte fellows. The effect makes the thin pale shell seem almost translucent with twinkling, and the movement of shadows across its pure surface could almost be taken for elan: the inauguration of life made visible.

With a final, triumphant roll, the Nothing But A Winner Egg shatters, marshalling onto the sands a diving green who nonetheless manages to keep her balance and end up safely on her own two... well, four feet. Her sequined wings still extended, she scans the sands, blinking at a patch of candidates to clear her eyes before taking another step. Onward!

Sharp-Edged Acrobat Green

Small, tough, and glittering-eyed, the young green dragon is anything but petite. Something about the way she carries her spangled wings makes them seem larger than they are, her neck longer, the blunt tips to her muzzle and tail more elegant. It's all about showmanship, though the satiny shade of her hide doesn't hurt, a uniform aquamarine that stretches across the promise of springy muscles and pales only at her paws in a soft, chalky dusting. Brighter are her wings, their sails given iridescence by fine waves of turquoise and gilt that, here and there, curl into whorls like so many tiny sequins... or bits of broken glass.

Temperament

In sleep, Kynith can look so innocuous. She's so still, so silent, just a faint melody threading through her dreams and through your head. It might be hard to believe she's even breathing. It's when she's awake that her sharp edges show, more than just the talons that any dragon has, or even the broken-glass glitter to her wings that echoes her dam's rough-cut diamonds. She'll prove to be particular, wanting a clean routine without stepping outside the lines, but she's no robot: what Kynith chooses to do, she does with flair, the sort of innate style that may make it easier to understand how she and Teivoth could be siblings after all. What does she see in you? The easy answer would be that she's attracted to your athleticism and your type A personality, her own competitive spirit recognizing yours. But something in her recognizes and appreciates the traditionally feminine side that you express much less often, too... as well as your sense of humor. Definitely your sense of humor. (This may prove to be a good thing, because Kynith is unlikely to admit that, sometimes, she really does need a keeper. ;) )

You're part of Kynith and Kynith is part of you, yet consummate love does not always mean complete understanding. As a new pair, it may seem at first as though you're in so many ways the same: as though, once you can figure out the feed-wash-oil-sleep routine, it will be easy. But your urge to outdo the boys is a little different from her need to outdo /herself/, and where you flounder when things get rough, /she/ digs in her heels and avoids dealing with what seems out of her field of expertise. (Ground drills? or the flaming Iskiveth so wishes she could do, perhaps?) You'll also have to learn how she likes her surroundings (no clutter, no extraneous stuff!) and how she likes to keep herself (lots of mud or dirt during mud-or-dirt time, clean-clean-clean during clean time, and never the twain shall meet) and help her adjust to barracks life even as /you're/ having to adjust, yourself. Beyond even that, there's the matter of finding your place among your clutchmates, particularly among your fellow greens, the most numerous of all. Sure, Kynith shares precision with Liniath, but in a far more focused and far less bubbly fashion, and sometimes she shares balkiness with Pterath, but quite often not at the same thing. She might be bemused by Teivoth's gameplay and, when it comes to the more bruising sort of play, gladly take on even Szadath. But general traits are one thing, and everyday interaction's another. You may find yourself having to reach deep within yourself in order to guide and inspire your lifemate, to help her learn subtlety and the sort of flexibility that's more mental than physical. At least Kynith can grow accustomed to arguing openly the way you like, as long as it's also lovingly... though the flip side may be that sometimes you think you're keeping your discussion just between you, only to look up and realize everyone's staring!

Kynith will mature to... well, it depends so much on you. If you curb her exploits too much, will she lose her daring edge? If you do it too little, will you crash and burn... even if it's together? Conversely, if you indulge her stalling too much, will she grow up one-sided? And if you aren't understanding enough, will she never really relax and still not reach her potential? It can be a hard path to navigate between "hands off" and "stage mom," but you're the best, the chosen, the /only/ one to do it. Sure, she can be a drama queen sometimes when she wants things just so, including her little rituals for getting ready like first-/this/-buckle and then-/that/-buckle, and for that matter how she likes you to use clear diction. But Kynith also enjoys relaxing to the sound of your needles as you knit, and even likes playing with satiny ribbons that remind her of your yarn on a larger scale. And that you can get away with teasing her sometimes with an extra-heavy accent? True love.

When Kynith gets proddy, it's tick-tick-tick-boom. You'll have warning. A chaser would do well to be very physical and acrobatic in attempting to fly her, and his odds are even higher if he can do it with flair rather than brute force or trickery. (Mostly.) Her first flight is unlikely to keep your preferences in mind, being more about getting up there and down again without breaking anything, but you may be able to sway her in later cycles. At least, even if you wouldn't have chosen her mate's rider, afterwards it's just about always going to melt into a sensual haze for a few hours. And though she's unlikely to fix on any one male, who knows? It's not impossible that she might find herself a fairly regular partner. After all, Kynith does like hanging out with the boys even when she's not proddy, so long as things don't get flirtatious. Same thing goes for other female dragons. /You/ can be as feminine as you want to be, as long as it doesn't get in the way of your life together. You can chatter in her head all you like (okay, to a point). But everyone else? It's all about action, not words.

Public Impression Message

She doesn't have the flair she'll have when she's older, but there's a trace of it already in the way she moves, even in the way she stops, her blunt muzzle elongated by the clean line of her neck. The Sharp-Edged Acrobat green is done with cursory glances, at looking anywhere at all but the redheaded sailor-girl before her. It's all over now, and it's just begun.

Private Impression Message

It's very clear. Kynith is there before you, and you can't even think to question her name, because you've always known it. You know her name before you can even get a good look into those whirling eyes that have captured your own. You know her voice, a clear soprano that nudges, so gently, « Ivana. » Like she /likes/ saying your name. Like she's always known it too. Kynith. You and Kynith. Your heart gives a great shuddering beat and that's when it sinks in, you and Kynith, you and Kynith, you and the satiny green that's aquamarine but nothing like water, nothing like anything you ever knew on the sea. You could cut yourself on her wings, but you won't. You could drown yourself in her eyes.... and maybe you will.

Mindvoice

Have you ever been sensitive to music before? Your Kynith at first is simply a clear, purposeful soprano voice, underlaid by something that you can't pin down, /something/ that can only be the song of your heart. As she grows, though, she'll naturally pick up snippets of music, whether it's a dock tune that you think fondly of... something sweet your neighbor is humming... or the sounds of wind across stone, all made subtly instrumental. Wordless sounds will gradually add depth to her thoughts, layer upon unconscious layer, an instinctive expression of her emotions as though she had her own soundtrack in the back of her (and your!) head: upbeat dance rhythms, ominous strings, adventuresome melodies. Though your bond is deep, you aren't as constantly knotted up in each other as some are, and a wrong note or out-of-place chord can give away what she may not choose to share... or may not realize at all.

Itchyspots

Kynith keeps getting bits of pebbles and dirt caught in the crevices between her blunt neck ridges and in her chalky-looking paws. Twigs caught along her tail. Dust behind her eyeridges. It all itches, of course, even more than the rest of her growing self... and she's apt not to notice until it's too late and you're in the middle of practice. Though Kynith can and does preen her strong wings, their membranes thicker and thus more sturdy than Pterath's or Iskiveth's... she still likes you to oil them in particular, if only for the sheer pleasure of you two together.

Dragon Inspiration

A gymnast is your Kynith's inspiration: small, tough, and limber, with the guts to fly headlong into the most amazing twists and turns, but in a very particular rather than willy-nilly way. To accomplish what she's capable of, an athlete like her needs a manager like you, to help her navigate the twists and turns of everyday life... even as she takes you soaring with her. (Even, sometimes, when you'd rather keep your feet on the ground...) As for her name, as soon as you mentioned "Kynith" we liked it, for its own sake as well as its resemblance to "kinetic": a callback to her sire's hatchling name, and a call to her very own nature!

Egg Inspiration: It's not Twilight, I swear! The BSC National Championship trophy, won this year by my alma mater, the University of Alabama. ROLL TIDE!
