Fair Weather Friend Egg
Cheery yellow bathes this egg like sunlight on a warm summer day, sifting downward through tree branches to dapple the shell's surface with a watercolor pattern of white on deep grassy green. A splash of color along one side might speak of a blanket cast down under the tree with two shapes leaning into each other to converse in light and shadow.
Punching out of its egg, a silvery talon embeds itself through the yellow-and-green shell of the Fair Weather Friend Egg, like an arrow puncturing its target. From that one spot, however, the rest of the shell soon finds itself splintering further, a jagged line running in both directions from the initial point of impact. Finally, the shell crumples, splitting right into two halves that curl away to reveal a Slinking Sylvan Maiden Green.
Slinking Sylvan Maiden Green Hatchling
With lithe, hunter's grace, this petite green is camouflaged in the forest's shadows. Arrow-sharp talons, cast in silver, tip dainty paws that lead into low limbs, while mossy wingsails drape between spring green 'spars. Spilling through the canopy of her expansive, translucent wings are slivers of sunlight, highlighting the sinuous curves of her thin build and long tail, as well as lending an aura of brightness to her otherwise dark, leaf-dappled hide. That foliage then winds vinelike along her sleek neck and over delicate headknobs tipped with foxfire, culminating in a coy-held head that is distinctly triangular, with its pointed, lichen-tipped muzzle widening into broad cheekbones, and above them, capricious and willful eyes.
Temperament
Soft-spoken and demure, Tiasheth is a lady, first and foremost. Even as a weyrling, she has a certain grace to her bearing, a measure of comportment that would do many grown dragons proud. Tiasheth is not precisely motherly -- she won't scold you for not washing up or for being late for dinner -- but she has an innate understanding of feelings, both yours and those of other people and dragons; empathy draconified. A thoughtful dragon, she'll always know just the right thing to say to cheer someone up or reassure their worries, and will do her best to ensure peace around her. She is relentlessly cheerful, optimistic, with faith in the inherent good natures of both people and dragons. Tiasheth knows that in the end, everything will work out for the best.
In lessons those early months of weyrling training, Tiasheth will progress quickly, with her natural intelligence and her willingness to listen to the weyrlingmasters when all her siblings want to do is goof off. She has an inborn respect for those of rank and age superior to hers, though at the same time, she holds high expectations for those leaders of the community. She expects them to work for the people, and those who do not will earn her disappointment if not her resignation: Tiasheth is also optimistic enough to believe in the power of the individual, that one determined person can make the world better-and she plans to be that one person wherever she can be, no matter how many disappointments she may face on the way.
With her soft, even-tempered personality, Tiasheth is a natural listener, and may find herself the confidant of many as she grows, even as you remain her best friend. She, with her steadfast loyalty, will take these secrets in the utmost confidence and, in her own gentle way, offer advice to soothe disagreements and hearten her friends. She will help anyone, whether or not they've been a friend to her, and she will encourage you to do the same: Paige, I think Mikhuth's rider is having trouble with his straps. « Perhaps you could show him the stitches you did on mine, and help him start? »
Not only will her clutchmates and wingmates find themselves subjected to her mild correction; she will also seek to improve you where she can, through subtle means. There will be simple reminders to, « Stand up straight, Paige, dear, and enunciate. » And then there will be the big issues, where you find yourself at fault for hurting another: then Tiasheth will offer the realization, « We've wronged Zibeth's, however she might have acted toward us. We must apologize, Paige. » Tiasheth is quiet without being shy and helpful without being overbearing or meddling -- rare talents indeed.
At the same time she displays such surprising maturity, Tiasheth is a child, one who enjoys childish games, as long as the time and place are right. Additionally, she will enjoy these games long after reaching adulthood. Nothing makes her happier than tag with her clutchmates, or acrobatic contests once they can fly. And if they should outgrow those games, Tiasheth will always find new young friends: she's a sweet, engaging personality who takes especial pleasure in young creatures, human or dragon, even if she can't have children of her own. She'll delight in finding new ways to entertain her young companions, either with stories or songs or games of make-believe. She won't ever get impatient or frustrated if they're unable to keep up; she'll simply keep encouraging them, and helping them along until they are able to on their own.
More teacher than fighter, she won't miss fighting Thread, with so many other pursuits to keep her busy. While she displays the same hatred of that silver menace as any other dragon, she's less driven to fight it personally, and with Thread now disappearing again-with any luck, permanently this time-she would much rather devote her time to maintaining the methods of fighting Thread, preserving them for future generations rather than having to use them personally. In the air, she will be one of the most acrobratic fliers, thanks to her very small size. In fact, she'll take great pride in her skills in the air, and while the boys of her clutch might be boasting about their prowess, she won't care to indulge in such bravado-she'll simply go out and best them all in the air, giggling, while they're still trying to outdo each other in bragging.
Flights, however, are one of the few things Tiasheth finds it difficult to be optimistic about. The idea of having to mate with whichever dragon wins her is wholly unappealing to one such as her, and she may become melancholy, even sullen, in the days immediately preceding her flights. Fortunately, she will be a late bloomer in that regard, and by green standards, her risings will be regular but far apart. As a dragon who believes in the idea of soul-mates, she will always have her preference, her chosen champion on whom she will bestow her favors.
Thus, while Tiasheth knows that all the other males chasing her are equally good dragons in their own right, she will still do everything in her power to ensure her chosen male wins her flight. She'll likely display quite the wily, foxlike intelligence in finding a way to make that happen: a rarely seen facet of her personality, but one that you know simmers in her every thought, however genteelly restrained it might be at other times.
In choosing that one mate for herself, however, Tiasheth is a picky creature who believes that courtship should be something chaste; she'll never lavish attention or flirtations on males to try to win them over. Tiasheth has a weakness for handsome, dashing rogues who are willing to go to great lengths to prove their love; faint hearts, after all, have never won a fair lady. But as much as she enjoys having her mate prove his love to her, she also needs him to be a dragon who thinks beyond himself and works for the greater good, as she does.
Tiasheth would think nothing of giving all her time and energy to assist someone in need, and she requires -- or rather, she inspires by her example -- that same selflessness and sacrifice from those around her. Tiasheth is a dragon that people can look up to, who can bring out the very best in them simply because she believes it is there already, within them. She certainly believes as much of you: that you can be a capable rider and an amazing, wonderful person -- the one who inspires her.
Public Impression Message
With sure-footed grace, the Slinking Sylvan Maiden Green minces across the sands, wings billowing elegantly around her like a dancer's skirts. Sweeping down the line of candidates, she tilts her head just so, an apologetic gesture for those she must pass by. But there's one she doesn't: one who holds her eyes, and in front of a small and dark-haired girl, she sweeps into what's almost a curtsy, spreading sunlit wings and dipping her head slightly, though those bright eyes never leave her chosen's.
Private Impression Message
Cool air washes over the scalding sands, brushing away the heat in favor of the damp dimness of a grove of old-growth trees. Intermittant pricks of light flash at the corners of your eyes, like fireflies glimmering as evening settles over this glade. In the middle of this is a voice, like wind rustling through the trees as it sweeps over you, sending leaves swirling about you with its cheer. « Paige, dear. Paige, oh, I found you at last. I do love you more than life itself, you know, » declares that earnestly adoring voice. Tiasheth's. « But perhaps... perhaps not more than meat, » she adds a second later, with bright, burbling laughter.
Mindvoice
Like her sylvan hide, Tiasheth's alto voice is forested, filled with the quiet rustles of leaves and the faint familiar feel of cool, damp earth that characterizes old and undisturbed forests. Lit with firefly glimmers, her laughter is like sticks crackling or perhaps a stream burbling away, while melancholy fills her mind with the slow gray drip-drip-drip of raindrops through the thick leaves. Only on the rarest occasions of her anger will her demure voice rise to the sharp whistle of arrows cutting the air-an unnatural sound for an emotion that isn't very natural for Tiasheth.
Dragon Inspirations
Tiasheth is based on Maid Marian from the Robin Hood legends. While not a bandit or thief herself, she is closely aligned with them as Robin Hood's love; Tiasheth draws from many versions of the stories, from the old legends themselves to more recent interpretations, such as the BBC's. Her name is a little bit Marian and a little bit Sherwood, while her desc in particular is inspired by Sherwood Forest and by Disney's animated interpretation of Robin Hood, featuring Robin and Marian as foxes.
Egg Inspiration: Bright, clear, sunny summer days spent lazing around with a good friend on a blanket under a tree when school's out.
