Ridiculous Scrollwork Egg

Pink! Or at least, the egg appears pink from a distance as the delicate, interwoven patterns of red on white fade together from afar. But up close, this shell is a busy mess of lines and curls, veins criss-crossing back and forth. It almost seems like there should be something hidden in this mass of fine red scrollwork, as though a little bird should be nestled in a winding tendril loop or that a face might appear in the way large swathes mesh with slender ones. Perhaps if someone stares long enough and hard enough, some sense will come of it all.

The Ridiculous Scrollwork egg is very precise in its methods. It was one of the last to start trembling, and now it shudders once, rocks twice, and develops a fine network of cracks that follow those veins crisscrossing the surface, almost hidden in the scrollwork. Then, with two more rocks and one more shudder, it falls apart, leaving a small, shimmering bronze looking down at the ruins, one leg still poised to kick it inquisitively.

Radiance in the Night Bronze

Light plays tricks upon this slender dragon, as though millions of tiny lanterns were shining across his shadowy bronze hide, illuminating the night. Only his head is free of those sparkling lights, where his twilight darkness is vividly burnished, drawing attention to his pronounced browridges arched inquisitively over large eyes. A ghostly pallor caps the narrow range of his neckridges, like distant mountain crests tipped with the night's snow. Two near-white lines melt from his high shoulders down his sides, giving way both to the lantern lights glistening there and a dusky gold that pools in the slim curve of his belly. He's small in build, that much is certain, but this slightness of frame is emphasized by wings that dwarf him, broad, diaphanous sails coated with a shimmering shine of navy over bronze. These wide wings are paired with an overly long tail, which together promise to make him awkward on land but swift in the sky.

Temperament

Taineth is bursting at the seams with energy, ambitious notions, and the determination to follow through on it all. « Ch'son! You should be paying attention! » No, that's not one of the Weyrlingmasters; that's Taineth, if he ever catches you daydreaming during a lesson. (Considering the whole mindlink thing, he will.) The new daily routine of a weyrling is exhausting enough without your dragon always adding more tasks to the list. The Weyrlingmaster wants you to have straps made by the end of the sevenday? Well, Taineth wants them done tonight. Not just any straps, either! Fancy ones, made of nicely dyed, dark leather with a fetching green embroidered border? Well maybe not during weyrlinghood, but Taineth will want all of your equipment to look quite unique. « Or else how will we stand out from the others? » Not only will Taineth want the best and the brightest from both of you in terms of skill, he will also be demanding it for your looks. Not necessarily in a stylish way, though. He wants to stand out, which sometimes means pink accents, or a bright, shiny material that is sure to get a few stares.

This constant drive to be better, faster, stronger--he will need your help, Ch'son, to reel it in, or he may wear both of you out. He's the type to hear every instruction, but selectively ignore the parts of it he doesn't quite agree with. If he's told to perform stretching exercises but be careful of muscle strain, he'll only pay attention to the first bit. Stretched muscles and exhaustion may be very frequent ailments if he's not closely watched.%r%rAs he gets older and begins to come into contact with more and more dragons, Taineth's emphasis on family will begin to emerge. While he'll always be interested in meeting new dragons, he will largely view others as opportunities; he needs to get something out of the relationship. With family, it's different. He will always keep tabs on his siblings and encourage them to push their own boundaries, just as he does with himself and you. If his clutchmates fail, he considers it a failure on his own part. This also means he will keep in frequent contact with Lieryth and Riuth, sometimes just to chat, but more often to seek reassurance. « Are you proud of me? » If for any reason the answer is a no, his spirits will be crushed for days.

If Taineth ever fails to meet his goals, there will always be one thing that can cheer him up--other than you, that is. The ocean. Perhaps the seemingly endless amount of water resonates with his constant craving for more, or maybe its the calm, dependable crash of waves on Ista's black beaches. Whatever the reason, he will be by the bright blue sea whenever he can. If he is fortunate enough to be around when a ship launches, whether it be a simple fishing boat or the Layabout, Taineth may happily follow it overhead. « Oh, Ch'son, you should most definitely tell them there is a whole school of fish just to their northwest! » And then, the inevitable follow up: « If they catch them, do you think they will let me eat just a few? I did help, after all. It is only fair. » Yes, Taineth would much rather get his nutrients from fish than 'beasts--he quite enjoys the hunting aspect of herdbeasts, but not so much the taste. « The fish...they taste like they have worked hard. They have to swim. Feed themselves. Survive. The beasts? They are fat and lazy. »

Despite all of his ambitions, Taineth is certainly not above having a good time. Socializing with others means making acquaintances, after all, and you never know when those will come in handy. Plus it's just fun to use those connections you've both developed. He'll encourage you to make plenty of friends, and isn't above suggesting a flirtatious remark here or there. « Tell her that dress looks pretty. It is very nice, so it is not a lie, really. Also, her brother is that card player you trounced the other day. She could put in a good word for you, and then maybe you can do it again. » Indeed, Taineth will happily embrace your gambling ways, as long as you come out on top marks-wise.

Don't think that every one of his goals is going to make total sense, though. Taineth will often push limits just for the sake of pushing them, resulting in some strange endeavours. He'll provide a crazy commentary to go along with it, too. « ZipZOOey! You did it, Ch'son! » His fiercely adventurous spirit will ensure he embraces any endeavour you undertake, no matter how off the wall it might be.

Concentration. That is the key to winning a flight, according to Taineth. At first, he wont seem that different from his usual self. His mindvoice will still be bright, but the bursts of colours will be used to distract and deceive both his fellow chasers and his female target. His typical strategy is to go above and beyond the competition, metaphorically and now literally. He likes to fly higher than the main pack, allowing him to swoop down and try to nab the green or gold whenever he spots an opening. And if he misses and fails to win? He will mope for as long as he can, which is usually until the short term memory of dragons erases it from his mind. A good scolding can snap him out of it too, especially if you bring up how much time he's wasting. « You're right, Ch'son. We are meant for better things than her. »

If he should ever catch a gold, Taineth will be as devoted and doting as a father can be. He shows his love silently, by nudging the eggs here and there and surprising the clutchmother with an affectionate nuzzle whenever he can. Like his father, he'll stay on the sands nearly as much as the clutchmother. Even after they have hatched, Taineth will keep up with his children, giving them advice throughout their weyrlinghood and into their adulthood. « They have my blood in them. That means they must succeed. It is destined. » He'll insist that candidates show respect to him, his queen and, of course, the eggs, otherwise they might be scurrying to get away from a roaring bronze. « They are smaller than me. I can crush them. Tell them that, Ch'son. Let them be afraid of us. »

Much as he will love and encourage his wingmates, Taineth wants a promotion. Now. Even if he is just a wingrider, advice will be doled out whether it is appreciated or not. Specific dragons wont be the only ones receiving critiques: wing patterns and strategies will be victims of his scrutiny too. Taineth's ever-present curiosity will latch onto the technical aspects of wings and, as usual, he'll immediately seek to improve them as soon as he understands them. Usually, his ideas will be too off the wall to actually be feasiable--yet every one in a hundred or so times, his plan will be just crazy enough to work. « See? You should listen to them more often! » But no, you really shouldn't.

As annoying as these habits may be, Taineth will still be an invaluable addition to any wing thanks to his devotion. If you are ever out partying until the wee hours of the morning at The Lucky Seven, he will try to convince you to simply stay up the rest of the night to ensure you wont be late for morning drills. If you should ever find yourself in such a position, Taineth will at least have the courtesy to help you out a bit by providing plenty of amusing mental imagery to help you stay awake. With this, and with all other things, he will never just leave you in the dark.

Public Impression Message

Radiance in the Night Bronze knows where he's going. Roughly. There's been purpose in his step throughout his trek along the sands, but as he reaches the end of a line of candidates and swings around for another go, he begins to move even faster, gathering speed until he all but plows into a tall young man with clear blue eyes.

Private Impression Message

Darkness falls. The buzz of the hatching is still in your ears, but suddenly it's unimportant, because there -- there, in the distance. That's a glimmer. It winks, and then there's another, and another, until it's all bright lights and colors, dots of it merging to form a small bronze standing expectantly at your feet. « Taineth, » he says. « That's me. And you're Ch'son, of course. It won't be long before they all know who we are. » The rest of the sands come back into focus, but the lights are still there, flashing in the background. You realize, suddenly: you are meant for great things. This realization comes with a pang, and he adds, « First, though, I really think we should eat. » The deep pain of hunger hits you harder, nearly knocking you to the ground. But now you know: you can never truly fall ever again. Not with Taineth around.

Mindvoice

Taineth is all color when he talks, a vivid and brilliant array of lights with no discernible pattern. The clear baritone of his voice carries emotion; it's the speed and depth of thought that's conveyed by the lights pinpricking his mind, colorful dots flashing according to what he's pondering. They hang like stars, unmoving when he's solving a problem and going by in a blur when he's got too many things to say at once, almost as if the world is rotating at the speed his mind is going. Piercing bursts of noise accent his voice when he gets frustrated or angry, as if a sudden crowd has come and invaded his mind.

Inspiration

Tokyo! Many parts of that vibrant city have lent themselves to your Taineth. Most prominently featured are its famous bright, night-time skyline, the insanely hard work and ambition of its people, and the crazy trends that seem to pop up daily. Also featured: Mt. Fuji, Japans emphasis on family/honour, and the overcrowding that is so frequent, particularly in Tokyos subways. As for the name, tai is the first syllable in both the Japanese word for ocean (taikai) and ambition (taimou). We hope it sounds a tad feminine, and yet still hard, like you wanted.
