History
Turn 19 to turn 34
The eldest child of the holding family of Ruatha River, Hattie expected to inherit the Hold one day, though it was her eldest brother who was named as heir. Determined to prove herself more capable and change her father's mind, she worked to make sure the Hold ran smoothly, to the extent that she irritated the staff and infuriated them with her desire to have everything be perfect. Eventually, under the guise of 'learning how a Weyr runs', her father had her sent away to Fort shortly after she turned twenty. She was taken to the Weyr by her father's foster brother, G'dreyn of brown Dakinth, and soon found herself working as an assistant to the Headwoman.
Hattie was Searched for Peirith and Zaiventh's clutch and agreed to Stand, though she was given the option to back out by then then-Weyrwoman Cirse. She refused, wanting to see it out to the end, despite her misgivings. During this time, she also found herself in a not-quite-relationship, bound by the rules of Candidacy, with a fellow Candidate, Winston. It was agreed that one would wait for the other, if they Impressed, but this turned into waiting for dragons to grow up when they both Impressed, Hattie to gold Elaruth and W'ton to bronze Dasarth.
Elaruth was hatched with piercing sensitivity and a reluctance for there to be any distance between herself and Hattie, making for a difficult weyrlinghood for a woman used to being independent and getting things done exactly how she wanted them. Hattie often berated Elaruth for not being able to get things right the first time or for letting the world overwhelm her, but as they grew together, they began to learn how to use Elaruth's sensitivity to their advantage and how to block the world out when necessary. The little gold needed peace and quiet; everything in its place, which, though similar to Hattie's need for perfect order, did not make life easy for either of them.
Following weyrlinghood, Hattie and W'ton were briefly weyrmated, though the relationship ended when Elaruth rose in her maiden flight and was caught not by Dasarth, but by bronze Mikhuth. During what would be their final argument, Hattie chose to end the relationship, with trust issues for both being a major componant of that decision. W'ton transferred to Southern Weyr and Hattie threw herself further into her work. The following months were difficult, with the rider of one of Elaruth's weyrlings kidnapped, the downfall of Ruatha River after her brother's marriage to Eidee of Fort Sea, the attempted murder of Lord Astivan of Fort and the subsequent execution of Rivellan of Fort Sea, and exile of Leoren of Four Sons, Esraval of Fort and Eidee herself.
Some months after her relationship with W'ton ended, Hattie started up a very loose, no-strings-attached relationship with P'draig of Ista. She was, eventually, forced to reveal that she was pregnant and had no idea who the father was, given that she had also slept with one of her Greyriver cousins (unrelated by blood). She later gave birth to a son, Gethin, after a long and difficult labour that almost ended her life. Elaruth spent three days applying mental pressure to keep her rider out cold to give her time to heal.
With Gethin five months old, Hattie stepped up as Acting Weyrwoman and was soon confirmed as Weyrwoman when Elaruth rose in her second flight and was caught by T'rev's bronze Mecaith. A new junior weyrwoman, Preita of Southern, was sent to Fort to be trained, but was found to be unpredictable, silly and more concerned about her sex life than anything else. In the turn that followed, Hattie gave birth to a daughter, Tabitha, fathered by Journeyman Smith Brayden, though she also adopted her youngest sister's child in an attempt to keep the shame of being an unwed mother from preventing Llowri from marrying well. Mimi (Merrion) was and has since been passed off as Tabitha's twin. This was only known by T'rev, Isandre and P'draig until turn 31, when Brayden, having achieved his Mastery, returned to lay claim to Tabitha, attempted to blackmail Hattie and ultimately made sure that the truth of Mimi's origins became public knowledge. A while after Tabitha's birth, the strained relationship between Hattie and P'draig became something more and they once again became lovers, eventually deciding upon a long-distance weyrmating, as he remained at Ista and Hattie could not leave Fort.
When Elaruth rose in her third flight during Turn 25, Preita did not leave the Weyr despite being ordered to, and the result was a fight between Elaruth and her gold Yshtiath. Both queens were caught, Elaruth once again by Mecaith, but both were also badly injured. Succumbing to infection, Yshtiath produced a clutch of four and went between for good with Preita. Expecting to die, Hattie asked that T'rev to make sure that, in the event of Elaruth going between without her, the Healers give her the means to end her life. In the days that followed and in poor health, Elaruth laid a clutch of eight, that would soon hatch her first gold daughter, Isyath, who Impressed to Ali. The road to recovery took over a turn, during which Elaruth did not manage to fly. The day that Elaruth finally managed to return to the skies was the day that Hattie gave birth to P'draig's son, Hasander, named for Hattie, P'draig and Journeyman Healer Isandre.
The morning after Elaruth and Mecaith's second class of weyrlings graduated was the time the queen chose to rise again, this time caught by N'muir's bronze Bijedth. Lord Visrain of Boll died in Fort's Living Cavern during the Hatching feast, thus starting a time of strained ties to Southern Boll and its new Lord, Jivrain. Hattie's personal life also became difficult, as she tried (and failed) to fight her attraction to N'muir and maintain her relationship with P'draig. At the end of Turn 28, at the beginning of which she had given birth to N'muir's daughter, Nimarie, Hattie and P'draig's weyrmating of three turns ended. Their sons have since been living at Ista Weyr with their father. Over the past few turns, Hattie made more than a few political missteps with Boll, tried to hunt down the dragonless murderer, Bea (and had her taken between once she was caught), cracked her skull open (was supposedly poisoned) and spent several months with post concussion syndrome, and took the stand at a formal Harper trial (of Larentia and Luca, who had attempted murder and kidnapping - to name but a few - charged against them).
When Elaruth rose in her fifth flight in mid Turn 29, she was once again caught by N'muir's Bijedth, a choice Hattie would say she and Elaruth made (at least an outcome they both wanted). A clutch of fifteen was produced, including a gold egg, which hatched the second of Elaruth's gold daughters, Llofruddiaeth, Impressed to Orialu. Soon after the conclusion of her their training, Fort's newest juniors were transferred to Igen Weyr.
In turn 31, Elaruth rose in her sixth flight and was caught by Bijedth for a third time, keeping Fort's Weyrleadership in place. Early in turn 32, Hattie gave birth to N'muir's son, Nehmet, after suffering with pleurisy for the last trimester of her pregnancy. Only a few months after Nehmet's birth, as tension with Southern Boll Hold continued to grow, Hattie and Ali were held hostage at the Hold by renegade riders, though they were eventually rescued and returned to to Fort. Though she spent a number of days recovering, Hattie was quick to return to work, and many of the sharper, colder traits she was known for during her turns as a junior weyrwoman have been noted to have returned.
