It's a little while after Hraedhyth has settled-- long enough for the Weyr to have calmed, but not so long that the staccato tempo of her drumbeats aren't audible in the undertone of Szadath's own mind. He's normally like a freight train, but now he's an ANGRY freight train-- and one that's puffed the ice-heat of his mind up with all the force he can muster. « You tell yours to leave Hraedhyth's alone. Hraedhyth is MINE. » (Szadath to Cadejoth)

To Szadath, Cadejoth is not afraid of you, little brown. He takes his time in answering, too, and it's not because he needs composing: he's quite composed. « Hraedhyth's rider visited us, » he remarks, placidly, with a clink and clatter, quite unbothered. « Will you tell her where to go, and who to talk to, next? Hraedhyth belongs to the Weyr. »

« I guard her. She carries MY eggs. She may go where she wishes. I will follow and make sure those who upset her do it only once. » Cadejoth might not be afraid, but there is menace and determination nonetheless in Szadath's echoes. They ripple in time with the gold he's curled himself around, her not-heartbeat. Mindbeat? « You will show her proper respect. » (Szadath to Cadejoth)

To Szadath, Cadejoth considers Szadath's proclamations with a lazy rattle of metal upon metal. « I do show her proper respect, » he says. « It was not me she was upset with. Perhaps you ought to talk to her before rushing in to defend her honour? » It's unspoken, but nonetheless obvious: you have a lot to learn, young brown.

To Cadejoth, Szadath has never been the subtlest creature, nor prone to pick up on the subtleties of others. This, at least, does not go over his head. Patronizing results in the must-have-been expected bristling. « You and yours upset her. You upset her EVERY DAY when you question her and her choices. » Szadath being the prime one of those choices. « I will defend her from you. They were not upset until they saw you! »

This is not Cadejoth-scared-puppy: this is Cadejoth-who-leads, even if, at present, he does not have a pack of his own to lead (although it's worth noting that he does not acknowledge Szadath as having one, either, not even a subset of one). « I tell her the truth. We do. Sometimes, upset is required. We don't doubt that they would tell you it was necessary. » For a moment, it may seem as though Cadejoth is withdrawing from this conversation, but then he pauses, and adds, « It is good of you to care. » Good dog. (Cadejoth to Szadath)

To Cadejoth, Szadath doesn't have a pack, he has a team-- even if he hasn't entirely learned the unconscious mastery of them that his sire demonstrates. All he can do is skate on his tight association with his queen. « Upset is never required when it risks the eggs. You will not upset my eggs. » He sticks on this point and none other as his echoes rebound and treble. « They are MINE to care for. She is mine to care for. Not yours. And I will not let you interfere with them. »

By now, Cadejoth's temper is growing short, not because Szadath is riling him, but because the whole 'argument' is just so ludicrous. « I am interfering with nothing, Szadath. If you wish to protect Hraedhyth from hearing things that make her unhappy, perhaps you should tell her to make sure her rider doesn't ask questions of people. We do not lie to our queen. We do not evade. Your queen would not wish this. » (Cadejoth to Szadath)

« Say whatever you think. » Szadath is implacable. Immovable. Like a glacier, albeit on that burns with anger-- a strange combination of his parents. « I warned you, and you heard me. I won't warn you again. » This, he thinks, is the height of subtle negotiation and leadership, because he withdraws to leave only his resounding echoes. (Szadath to Cadejoth)

In return, Cadejoth has nothing but condescending amusement. Good boy. Sit, stay. (Cadejoth to Szadath)

To Cadejoth, Szadath can't hear you, his mind is full of gold. FULL OF GOLD.

Good. Daddy's busy. (Cadejoth to Szadath)

< HA. Man... Szadath's heart is in the right place, which is endearing enough to not get his butt scorched for trying to fight Hraedhyth's battles. And Cadejoth is so much Older And Wiser, he knows what's up. XD
