Note

The first part of this vignette happens during the wedding of Devaki and Issedi.

The latter half will occur on day 14/15, month 7, turn 29 of Interval 10, which will occur on RL date August 17th. This is a sort of preemptive vignette to help set the 'tone' of the 17th for RP and what not. Let me know if you have any questions.

You could go.

The words lingered in her head long after Ysavaeth had tossed them at her, like the tiniest of bones the hounds sometimes got near the hearth. It rankled as much as the dissatisfaction with her- with Devaki's marriage did, trapped like some sort of festering, growing little bug under her skin.

She had kept up a smile, having learned the art of emotional deceit when asked one too many times whether she was really ok or not. Whether she was truly at peace with losing a child. You just learn those things: how to smile when you don't feel like it; how to laugh, when you don't feel like it; how to love, when you don't feel like it anymore; and how to pretend things don't matter as much as they truly do.

After K'del had left and Ysavaeth had confirmed Cadejoth's arrival at the Hold, Iolene rose from the desk she had feigned working at. She drifted to the wardrobe and the dress she had made for the occasion, forgetting that a different form of deceit would make her Weyr-bound. Fingers, having long lost their calluses, grazed across the supple, rich fabric of the shimmering blue dress with its beading and its overlay of lace. Some day, he had promised, she'd have reason to wear it. After Ysavaeth and Cadejoth's eggs had hatched -- maybe even for the hatching itself.

Iesaryth is loyal. Iesaryth's and hers are loyal.

More gentle than the careless permission before, Ysavaeth's unaffected touch entered her mind. While others felt the caress of rich honeyed smoothness, for her, Ysavaeth was just the melody of a sun drenched ocean without tangible words but mere feelings that somehow formed into thoughts.

Sometimes, it was hard for Io to tell whether it was Ysavaeth actually telling her things, or if the beast merely echoed her own deepest desires.

It took a few moments to collect her thoughts. We'll give them this night, was her promise in return.

They gave them this night, and the next, a veritable honeymoon period of peace until a draconic cry ripped through the night and Iolene woke up with a start, trying to hold back the tears that just seemed too natural now as she curled into K'del's side.

By morning, it was known throughout High Reaches Weyr, and likely the Weyrs and Holds beyond, that Ysavaeth had somehow miscarried her clutch and that Iolene was not allowing anyone near her grayed dragon.

What was one more lie on top of another? Especially a lie that would fix the situation.

"Iesaryth is loyal. Iesaryth's and hers are loyal."

As much as they can be.
