From NorCon MUSH

Even Pernese from the remotest parts of the planet have at least a basic understanding of how Weyrs work. But High Reaches' exiles had never even seen a dragon before their rescue; they have grown up in a different world, a place where everything works differently.

When Iolene Impressed gold Ysavaeth in turn 26, a lot of people were concerned. How could a girl who knew nothing of dragons or Weyrs, or Pern as a whole, possibly deal with being a Weyrwoman? Was letting her stand in the first place a horrifying mistake?

Tiriana, then High Reaches' Weyrwoman, took matters in to her own hands by refusing to train Iolene, or let anyone else do it. Although Weyrlingmaster Meara attempted to recruit others to help on the quiet, Iolene graduated without training, and, with Tiriana refusing to work with her, ended up flying in Avalanche as a wingrider.

To make matters more complicated, when Ysavaeth rose for her maiden flight, it was the Weyrleader's own Cadejoth who caught her, pushing already cool relations between the Weyrleaders to downright icy - especially when Tiriana broke K'del's arm. As K'del and others worked to have Tiriana removed, Ysavaeth - the brains behind the operation - had her own plans. Plans that could be put into action after support from Monaco, and other weyrs, gave K'del the leverage he needed to have Tiriana banished.

Ysavaeth surprised everyone by rising again only a few months later - instead of Rielsath, who was the more obvious choice. This made Iolene the Weyrwoman, with K'del as her Weyrleader; the impacts were almost immediate, for Iolene could not understand why things had to be done the way they'd always done, when there might be a better way no one had thought of. The flight turned a lot of people against K'del, who had sworn blind that he would not be Weyrleader after the next flight.

What (almost) no one knew was that Ysavaeth's flight had been staged... and that the 'accident' that resulted in the loss of her clutch was entirely fabricated.

Meanwhile, tensions grew stronger, even resulting in protests from around the weyr. On the other hand, young riders in other weyrs seemed excited by the idea of change, and apparently eager to try and institute some in their own weyrs.

Had it continued, revolution might have been on the cards - but in the end, it was all cut short. On the 28th day of Month 2, Turn 30, Iolene was murdered, found dead in K'del's Weyr. It may make her a martyr, but without the figurehead, it's hard to know if any of those efforts will continue.
