| Mielline likes to have her wingsecond-- wingseconds, now-- over of an evening once a sevenday or two to discuss strategy and plans for the days to come. Most of the time, these meetings are held in her weyr, mid-way up the bowl. Corobith is curled up cozily in his couch, head turned to watch the proceedings: inside, there's a fire at the hearth, and a bottle of wine on the table. Mielline leans back in her chair, rolling her ankle idly as she listens to R'vel. "I'm not saying I'm opposed to the idea," she says. "But I don't want to add more drills. We all have our own projects." Does she glance at Jo as she says that? Surely not. The meetings are new for Jo and it's attached to the rank of wingsecond. So far, she's been a team player, saying little and observing most as the proceedings go on. She drinks little of the wine, too, seeming to take a neutral approach as she openly watches the interaction between R'vel and Mielline. This meeting, when he brings up the idea of more drills, the look she sends him is a hard one. That look transfers when Mielline seems to oppose it, and that has her brows furrowing when she cuts her gaze towards her. Fingers steepling together, "I can understand more if Thread was in the sky," she is careful in her wording, breaking her silence. "There's enough on their plates as it is, don'cha think?" She addresses him, but she's looking at the wingleader. "It's just an experiment," is R'vel's answer, though he's plainly not bothered by the lack of enthusiasm from his coworkers. "I don't want to increase drills, so much as try this other way, one day. Just to see. It's not like Snowdrift takes well to being bored." Mielline's low chuckle is wry, though she acknowledges that with a dip of her head. "It's the balancing act between 'bored' and 'overworked,'" she agrees, then. "I'll let you try it out on the third day of next seven, R'vel, in place of standard practice." Jo takes a measured drink of the wine as comments and responses are doled out. With it being declared an experiment, even though her approval is not needed, she nods to give it once Mielline answers. "I 'spose this would be a good segue," she states at the end of her words, looking from one to the other. "I was given an idea to pitch to ya both'n...'spose it would increase the workload, too. Maybe not for everyone, mind. One of our wingriders was approached in Tillek by a Journeyman starcrafter needin' help with surveyin' a chunk of coastline. She specializes in cartography, see," she explains, diving right in. "She thinks the survey could get done a lot faster for them with a few of our 'riders." R'vel's interest is immediate, those dark eyes focusing intently upon Jo as she speaks; that's not surprising, most likely, given his crafter background. Mielline's more cautious, twisting the stem of her wine glass between her fingers. "Dragonriders would make that a quicker process," is what she says, evenly. "And it could build a bond between us and the Starmsmith Hall," is R'vel's reply, enthusiastic and hopeful. "Which wingrider?" "Edyis," Jo answers, nodding toward R'vel with his interest shown. "She came to me with the information'n I promised to bring it up to ya as soon as I could. I don't have all the details," she's quick to say to Mielline, sensing her hesitation, "but, she does. I'll admit, it'll be interestin'. Useful. Plus cartography would be somethin' the Weyr, I'd imagine, could use. Even if we're not fightin' in the sky, gettin' updated maps from them or what-have-ya would be a benefit," and so, she's onboard with R'vel. "Just somethin' to consider, darlin'. She was offered, but, she thinks this would better suited for the wing than just her." "Edyis," repeats Mielline, but with a note of approval to her tone. "I knew I was right about her. Talking to people, building connections... that's what we do." She nods, attention focused upon Jo as she does so. "In any case, she's right. It's something I'll talk to her about, and perhaps the weyrleaders, too... useful, yes, and in more way than one." R'vel simply smiles, straight and tall in his seat, and muses, "You'd almost be better off having cartographers with dragons." There's a private and brief grin for Mielline's comment on Edyis, but Jo has it mostly wiped clean by the next statement. She nods once to her when she sees her gaze on herself. "It would be....interestin', to see how this develops," she says aloud with the barest of smiles as she releases her hold on the glass of wine. If there's anythin' ya need us to do there, ya let us know." She includes R'vel in her gaze, making that assumption by his reaction to the proposal. The low dip of Mielline's nod is approving, though perhaps it's notable that she doesn't glance at R'vel in the wake of his comment. Perhaps it's some unspoken understanding; perhaps something else entirely. "Yes," she agrees. "And especially in the wake of-- well. We shall see. Thank you, Jo. That's exactly the kind of thing I want to see more of. We'll... work on this as a team, mm? But first, I'll need to talk to to Edyis, to get all the details." She sets down her glass, straightening as she does so. "Is there anything else for tonight?" Jo misses little, and so the fact that Mielline doesn't look towards the other wingsecond is getting a slightly raised brow to no one in particular. "Mmm," she says to the broken statement - 'in the wake of' - adding another nod that encompasses all. To the last, there's a rub to the armrests on the chair with an exhale and she looks to R'vel first as she says, "I'm good to go. I should pro'bly let ya get back to yer work," indicating she likely has work of her own to see about before the night ends. "And I shouldn't like to keep you from yours," is sweetly offered in reply to Jo; Mielline is amused. "All right, we'll meet again in a few sevens. I'll see you both at drills the day after tomorrow." Both wingseconds are thus dismissed, though R'vel casts a glance at Mielline before he departs. There's laughter that's so quiet as Jo gets up from the chair. "Sounds like a party," she states her farewell, returnng that amused look as she starts to head out behind R'vel. "Until next time, Wingleader." "Until next time, wingsecond," is Mielline's answer, met with a smile. |

I loved seeing more of Jo in the wingsecond roll, and also R'vel's personality coming out.

Jo; that charm of yours could convince a snake oil peddler to buy his own stuff. ;)
