| It hadn't been working. Nobody listened to her, nobody was paying attention. She'd tried being nice, being the reasonable grownup dragonrider. She'd met with them all, expressed her interest in their opinions, and they spat in her face. The Wingleaders didn't care who she was-- and who was she, really, except some loser brownrider who had a dragon with a knack for queens? She'd hoped at least Mielline would offer her some support, woman-to-woman, but her reception had been lukewarm. She hadn't expected all that much from Sisha, being Avalanche, but it had hurt when B'sil and B'ren had refused to speak with her outright. And then there'd been F'rint. She'd been so sure he'd throw his support, and the support of the wing, behind her claim. He'd given her a chance once before, and hadn't she proved herself useful over and over? Hadn't she done everything he could possibly have asked and then some? And then he'd sat across from her at the council table and told her that he wanted no part in this, and he'd slid his knot across its surface and said that she'd better find it a good home, and then he said a lot of things about southern beaches and southern beer and southern girls, and that he expected a flaming good retirement party, and she hadn't known what to do. What to say. This was a curse and a gift all rolled up into one intricately-tied package. All of the Wingleaders had ignored her for being an upstart nobody when she'd approached them as the not-quite Weyrleader. Maybe they would feel differently when they were talking to the new very-definitely Glacier Wingleader. Now all she had to do was figure out how to tell her wingmates, how to spin it into a story about camaraderie and wing honor and stands-for-right and doing the best thing for Queens and Weyr. They'd done it before, of course, when they'd taken it upon themselves to guard them after the assassination. Surely she could find the words to inspire similar motivation again. The words, and the beer. Maybe mostly the beer; she wasn't really the best with words. « They have always been our team. Of course they will support us. » "I think you're right. You're always right. We can still make this work." It's no secret that both H'kon and Taikrin had been meeting with the Wingleaders under direction from the Weyrwoman. It's also no secret about the lukewarm reception both had generally been getting. But what IS unclear is how, exactly, one of her last meetings ended with Taikrin somehow in possession of Glacier's Wingleader knot. The news, as broken to Glacier in a hastily-called wing meeting, is that F'rint is retiring to enjoy the finer things in life: warm beaches, cute women, and fine liquors. Some don't believe he's going voluntarily, and some don't believe he intended for Taikrin to end up in control of the wing-- but there's nothing along those lines in the official story. Quite a few overheard the 'rousing speech' Taikrin delivered to the wing, full of talk about bringing honor and glory to a wing that SHOULD belong to the Weyrleader, and of being the last wing remaining with the integrity to truly serve and protect their Weyrwomen, and (of course) promises for much free-flowing beer and whisky. In short, nothing in their day-to-day would REALLY change, Taikrin promised, except that they would remain committed to making sure no more atrocities occurred to the Weyr's precious goldriders while Glacier was on watch. What do the goldriders think of this? And what do Glacier's wingriders REALLY think of this unexpected transition? Surely there will be tongues wagging during their newly allocated free-beer-time in the Snowasis. |

D: Aw, Taikrin! She tried, man. SHE. TRIED. A part of me thinks the wingleaders are gonna get what's coming to them.
._. And the other part is sane, and going 'oh noooo'~

Always knew (most of) the wingleaders were right in the head...
And hooray for hell possibly breaking loose!
