| And this one? « Green. » Tell me about her? « She is not a warrior, her strength will come from her heart. Her compassion will be great, and will be able to heal all pain felt within our Weyr. » Azaylia breathed in Hraedhyth's words along with the heat of the sands, nearly scorching her lungs in doing so. Thick soles promised to buy her some time, steps careful as she weaved around the various, precious ovals which surrounded her lifemate. She did her best not to disturb the other queen in doing so. A hand hovered over sleek, gray surface, fingers itching to descend the few centimeters that kept calloused skin from the dark shell. This one? Hraedhyth turned her gaze onto both rider and egg, close-set jewels whorling slowly, thoughtfully. « Blue. » The gold's low register was too firm, playful in her false certainty. « He will be a savage one. Fierce in battle, but also in winning flights. » Like a certain brown. Her smoke twisted, dancing out to brush against the very edges of her mate's slumbering concious. Szadath was not the only one asleep. Azaylia had been as well, until nightmares and Weyr-based worries roused her at such a late hour that it could be considered early. In the hatching caverns, there was comfort. There was Hraedhyth. Shedding her cloak once she reached the sands, thin slip of a robe was far more suited for such intense warmth rather than the icy chill outside. You don't really know, do you? Not accusatory, but amused. « No. » The gold would not allow whimsy to be mistaken for lies. « They will be of our Home. » Their tribe. « That is all I need know. » It was a simple truth. It was acceptance. Hraedhyth made it sound so easy, and Azaylia could only close her eyes as the warrior queen's confidence washed over her. For a split second, all of her problems didn't seem so daunting. Without emotions, without politics, and through the eyes of a dragon, she could see every solution clearly. What needed to be done in order to secure the Weyr's future. To keep it and its 'folk safe. All too suddenly, Azaylia came crashing back down. Once again, she was lost. This one. Jumbled, confused thoughts managed to reach out through that unbreakable tether. Her eyes were drawn in by a painfully bright shell. Tell me about this one. « Brown. » Hraedhyth's drums thumped with pride, as they always did when speaking of hypothetical offspring. « He will be timid, but will not fail us when it matters most... » Azaylia listened. In those moments, she believed. It wouldn't be until the most early of risers began to filter into the galleries that she'd think to brave the cold once more. In her bed with too many pillows, the goldrider allowed herself to sink into the comfort of her lifemate's fire. « This one... » A shame that Azaylia couldn't stay awake long enough to hear what potential that egg could be holding beneath smooth surface. |

Awwww Azaylia. It's always so interesting to see the bond between her and Hraedhyth in ways like this... and see the nurturing side of the warrior. Good read. xD

I loved this insight into Azaylia and Hraedhyth as well as the uniqueness of the vignette itself. I don't think I've ever read this type of interaction with the eggs themselves and even though it's fanciful, it's also so very *real* in a sense.
It is also very much like counting sheep to get Azaylia back to sleep -- only counting dragons and their personalities. So much untapped *potential* here...
Good read!

And half the time, I'm not even sure if Hraedhyth is -really- talking about the eggs... or about someone else.

This is such lovely fluff. Hraedhyth's stories are the best stories.

I like seeing the warmth Hraedhyth shows, her touch of whimsicality. But always, I enjoy her fierceness the most. ^^
