It's a late night that finds Jo and Tacuseth arriving on Akluseth's ledge unannounced. Again. The blue sends a content enough greeting towards the brown as she dismounts, moving to unstrap him and pulling out a small basket and a dark bottle while doing so. "'Ey Ed!" is the only she's getting from her as she makes her way towards the inner weyr - though it's likely Akluseth would have already sent on a warning of the convict rider's sudden presence.

Ink-dark eyes lift from the book, Edyis is curled up on one edge of the couch near the hearth, complete with dragon painted flannel pajamas. She's got a quilt over her lap. "Jo. Wasn't expecting anyone tonight." Observation more than deterrent. "Come on in."

Stepping in with basket and bottle, Jo lifts up the later for Edyis to see as she says, "Thought ya wouldn' mind some company tonight. 'Least I brought the food'n wine this time." She moves over towards the table to set both down, eyeing the book in her hands as she asks, "What're ya readin'?" as she starts to empty out the basket, one food item at a time.

"Treatise on chess." She smiles a little then, pulling to her feet and setting the book aside to peer at the goodies brought. "Company is always nice. Getting caught up with the saftey procedures for Snowdrift has been challenging." She admits rolling a shoulder to work out the kinks in the muscle. "Ooh, you know the way to a girl's heart." She says of the wine and food.

The food is a spread of cuts of meat, bread and cheese along with slices of red fruit and other various fruits. It's enough for two people to eat, which can be seen as Jo spreads it all out on the table. "Sounds borin'," she notes on the book, the lopsided grin petering out. "Thought ya knew all there was to chess anyway." And then, Snowdrift. She finishes her spread and then gestures around as she asks, "Yeah, don' I. Where's the good cups 'round here?"

Edyis grins at the spread, reaching for one of those redfruit slices and biting into the crisp sweet fruit. "I am not omniscient." She whispers with a grin that might speak to some private joke. "Don't have good cups, unless, there's that wooden set of tumblers in the leather case over in the wine cabinet." Apparently trusting the former thief to find things for herself.

"Mmhmm," is all Jo says to that on Edyis not being omniscient, moving around the weyr to look for the cups. Once she reveals it, she brings the wooden set pointed out over. As she doles out two with a stolen glance going the brownrider's way, "Thought we could talk 'bout Snowdrift," she says bluntly. Of course, Jo has an agenda. "'M sure ya've been seein' at yer drills lately. I need to know 'bout how that wing operates. Mielline, too, for that matter." Then she sets to pouring wine into the two waiting cups.

"Snowdrift?" She piles a few choice vittles onto a plate pulled from one of the cabinets snagging the filled cup and bearing it over to her seat on the couch near the fire. "I'd noticed, figured you would say something about it eventually." But her curiosity is peaked. "It's not Savannah." Stating the obvious first, "By the book for the most part without much free time given for things outside of playing catch up."

"Snowdrift," Jo echoes the name with a brief look as she finally sits herself down with a plate. "Couldn' make much noise," she explains for her shadowin' as she fills her plate with food. "It's definitely not Savannah. The lack of free time concerns me. Only cuz I've been given an offer." She looks at Edyis then, pouring herself a cup. "Mielline wants me to be her wingsecond," she explains once the pouring is done. "She painted me a pretty bad picture 'bout maybe Glacier goin' up, darlin'. My Glacier."

Edyis's brows furrow at the revelation. Dark eyes focusing on the bluerider thoughtfully. "Don't get me wrong, I'm happy you might be getting a promotion, but it isn't exactly the sort of place I'd picture a person like you thriving. She runs a tight ship. The time thing is starting to get to me personally, between picking up the slack with the rum trading, and the usual diversions," Jo might call it something else of course. "Won't really be able to get much more of a feel for it until the safety protocols are second nature. To early to really say for sure."

"She says I lack a challenge," Jo recalls the conversation openly as she attacks the meat on her plate. And the wine. "That I'm hidin' behind Taikrin's skirts or somethin' or other. As if Taikrin even wears a skirt. I don' hide behind anybody." Spearing a cut of meat on her fork to examine it, "Anyway, I do agree that it's high time I upgraded myself," she admits to Ed as she places the whole thing in her mouth. "It's been over thirteen turns. Taikrin's the sort of girl that don' really need any 'seconds'n the way Mielline's paintin' it, K'del's headin' for Taikrin the moment he gets back. That concerns me. If Glacier goes, there's very few wings that would even want us. Or K'del might even put us in his wing." She makes it sound bad. "I'm just lookin' at my options." Pause. "Usual diversions." Yeah, she caught that.

There's an arch of her brow, and as Jo continues her brow furrows more deeply. "You think K'del would really disband Glacier? He just approved transfers back in before Niahvth's flight, why would he do something like that if he was planning on disbanding it once he had the knot for certain?" Edyis muses thoughtfully. "K'del doesn't seem like the sort of person to do something like that." But the promotion seems another matter entirely, "Is that what you want though? I mean not to put too fine a point on it but being a wingsecond, sure it's an upgrade but it also makes you stick out more. People will notice if you vanish for a few days." Jo's choice echo earns an eyeroll. "All the extra drilling to catch up with safety protocols and search and rescue is really eating into my freetime."

"I think K'del's had it in for Taikrin ever since she made herself Weyrleader," comes from Jo as she spears a piece of fruit next. "The transfers don' even matter to me. I'm smellin' smoke. Taikrin's pissed when I told her what I was told. He's not exactly a fan of those of us in Glacier, either. As for what I want," and there's a pregnant pause as she reaches for her drink to wash the food down with, a small shrug given, "I already stick out. I can change my schedule. I can still do what I want. I couldn' exactly vanish for a few days at a time in Glacier, either, darlin'." She sets the cup down. "I just need to know what I'm workin' with, should I take it," she tells her, her tone serious. "I've got Canie in there, one of yer wingmates. She's one of mine. She's done well, but I want a different perspective from hers. A challenge ain' necessarily a bad thing, y'know. I've been through worse." Smirking a bit, "Appreciate the concern, though," she adds to Edyis wryly. "Although it seems like ya don' want me for a wingmate. I've warned Mielline 'bout that, too. She doesn' seem to care."

"If K'del had it in for Taikrin wouldn't it make more sense to disband her before Niahvth rose?" Edyis speculates. "I'm not saying your wrong, but I wouldn't lay it on K'del without looking into it first either." Maybe it's the whole gaping hole in his back that is making her a little more protective of the man. The rest earns a sigh, "Jo, you fucking know better. I'd love having you as a wingmate, but I don't actually like being part of Snowdrift, and it doesn't really feel like we belong there. Maybe things will get better as time goes on, after we've learned the basics but it is starting to feel a lot like the same damn restrictions I butted my skull against during weyrlinghood. I just want you to be happy is all. If you think you want it I'm not objecting. It'd be nice to have the wing second in my corner. Do I get bonus points since we've slept together? I've heard that is how Iceberg works." The last wry.

"I don' put it past anybody, darlin'," Jo says on K'del, shaking her head. "Everyone has an agenda." As for the wing in question, she takes up her drink and leans back as she chews, listening. Silent towards the end, "Well, I doubt things'll stay the same if I'm onboard," she's casual in saying it. "Folks forget that Taikrin actually runs a tight ship, too, with Glacier. She didn' let us slack with anythin', cuz of all the scrutiny we get. The key to doin' what ya want - to getting what ya want - is to put in the work'n make sure the right folks're watchin'. It helps to have someone at yer back in a wing, too." The look is meaningful, craddling the wooden cup with both hands as she muses over their conversation. "Restrictions can be gotten around. Anythin' can with the right outlook." Jo must be always on her outlook since she says, "Anyway, I haven' given her an answer yet. I reckon I'll be happy in any wing I land in. If Mielline's comin' to me of all people, then that tells me she's lookin' for change. I don' follow rules easily. 'Course ya get bonus points. Isn' that how it works?" It must be a tease, but she does sober some as she says, "Been considerin' Iceberg, too. H'vier's a good wingleader."

"I'm not that naive," Is Edyis's counter to mention of agendas, "I just don't want to see a conspiracy around every corner anymore. Makes a girl feel a little insane." There's a flex of her fingers around the mug, thoughtful. "Like I said, I'd love having someone at my back who doesn't hate me on principal. T'mic doesn't count either, he'll be with the weyrlingstaff soon enough, and that might resolve the problem of K'zin too." She glances at Jo thoughtfully, "Maybe not, but you seem to have convinced yourself that it's the move to make." She lifts a shoulder at mention of H'vier, "He's not as terrible as I thought. He's still a chauvinistic asshole sometimes but maybe age is finally mellowing him out."

"Better you than me, darlin'," Jo says on conspiracies with a shake of her head. "I've gotta look out for myself. Rank might not be so bad'n it's not like anyone else is offerin'. If things don' work out, I'll deal with it then. It could be the move to make." So, she seems convinced, even though Edyis is probably the only one that knows. There's a small smirk for H'vier before she says, "I like a lil' asshole in men, but we already know how my tastes can go. How's Rek doin', anyway?" Such a segue.

"Don't say that, I come up with some wild theories sometimes." She laughs, but there's a thoughtful nod for mention of rank. "If you think it's really what you want, far be it from me to try and dissuade you. Just don't expect a salute in private." She teases, popping another fruit slice into her mouth. "Honestly, I could probably like him if he didn't say something that made me want to punch him in the gut every thirty minutes." She notes of H'vier, say it isn't so! There's an arch of her brow at Rek's proximity with the phrase asshole in conversation, and a snort. "Fine I suppose, these days I'm only able to get out to Telgar maybe once a seven, and I can't exactly leave him tied to my bed without causing an Interweyr incident now can I." Amusement fading a little, "He's making something for me, but what, I've no idea." Her smile soft.

"Then this one shouldn' be all that far-fetched," Jo notes on conspiracies as she sets her cup down, scoots forward and resumes her eating. "If Mielline is botherin' to say it... isn' she believed, at least most of the time? Z'ian believed in her." As for wanting the rank bad enough, there's a pause on her tearing up a half of bread loaf before she says with a deliberate shrug, "Doesn' hurt to give it a try anyway. Worst-case scenario is I toss the knot right back months later'n transfer out. There's always Iceberg, if H'vier was serious in wantin' me. I'll try again or give it a rest." She doesn't seem to care one way or the other as she stuffs her mouth with bread. "I won' remember ya salutin' me in public or in private, really," she answers that next one as she chews. "I'm not gonna be used to havin' to be up under a wingleader all the time." As for N'rek, there is a knowing grin on her face as she shakes her head. "'Least I know yer kink now," she says, smirking a bit. "Tyin' up unsuspectin' riders. He's makin' ya somethin'. Ya didn' ask? Ya mean, ya haven' raided his weyr to find out?" Scandalized.

"Glacier being shut down isn't far fetched?" She wonders mildly, getting up to refill her plate. "I keep hearing about this Z'ian, never did meet the man though." Something warm blossoms in that smile though at Jo's assertion of trying not hurting. "No, it doesn't. To be honest I kind of like the idea of being in the same wing. I sort of hoped I'd land in the same wing as you and Alida, since Savannah wasn't an option." She smirks a little, "Granted this wasn't the way I imagined it happening, but." Her smile softens, and somehow she manages to ignore the kinky bits of conversation. "Mm, when he's ready he'll show me. And I will likely be more than a little appreciative."

"It isn' with Taikrin at odds with the Weyrleader," is Jo's firm answer. "Bet he's been waitin' ages for this, now that we've got a proper senior. Ya would've liked him. Z'ian." There's a distinctive wistfulness heard here, too. "A good man. Fair. He was good to me, too." There's a grin for the latter though, the convict rider chuckling once as she takes a drink. "Ya'd do alright in Glacier, I think," she says to that. 'N shit, if Glacier goes, Alida's gonna need a wing, too. Could happen. Gonna miss havin' her as my wingmate." She sets her cup aside. "Ya practically glow, talkin' 'bout him," she observes with an amused snort. "Yer not the least bit curious? Ya want me to go'n check it out?" She totally would.

Edyis settles into the couch, tucking her legs back up beneath her. "Makes me sorry that I haven't met him." She notes tilting her head as she listens. "May never know for sure now, but I'm happy to hear I have your vote of confidence. And who knows, if Glacier really goes belly up, maybe Snowdrift can take her on too. Might help with that little problem she has with her inner thoughts becoming outer ones." Edyis states with an affectionate smile, and as conversation turns back to the Telgari brownrider she laughs softly. "Speaks to his character and not mine." She notes of any glowing, "Naturally I am curious, but I also like the idea of being surprised by something every once in awhile. Especially good somethings."

"He's down south at the Weyr there," Jo says of the bronzerider, seeming somewhat subdued. "Had a pretty bad accident'n went south to heal up. Stayed there instead." There's a moment of silence from her as she looks over the food now, perhaps contemplating what to eat next. "She'll be alright," she says of Alida with a flash of a grin. "If she has a choice, I hope she does ended up where I do. Been awhile since all three of us'll gone out, right?" High time. She snickers softly when Edyis answers on N'rek, stating, "I s'pose so. Heard any updates on our Weyrleader?" K'del, that is.

Edyis doesn't comment further on the bronzerider, perhaps sensing a sensitive topic or because there are other things to talk about. "No, it's been too long, she's been so busy lately between Pyrite and those lessons she is taking up with Leova." The scribe closes her eyes with a sigh, "I'd like to spend a night in just listening to her and that guitar of hers. I miss hearing her play." When her eyes open it's to focus on Jo, "Haven't heard much else, I keep meaning to visit him again, but he's probably inundated with people vying for his attention."

"What, the dragonhealin' lessons?" Jo takes a guess on Alida, her interest piqued. "Huh. Didn' know she'd still be keepin' them up. I had suggested somethin' like that would help in showin' K'del she was ready to return to her own wing. I considered learnin' dragonhealin' at one point. Back when I was a weyrlin'." Pause. There's open confusion on her face when Edyis speaks of guitar playing, claiming her cup to reach out and refill it. "Alida plays?" she asks, incredulous. As for her question on K'del, she nods, seeming to understand since she replies, "He's pro'bly due to come back anytime soon now. Pro'bly itchin' to get back here."

"It's facinating," She says of dragonhealing, "All the different things that make Dragonkin so different." There's a shrug, and then at the open confusion. "I was really drunk at the time, mighta been someone that just looked like her." The brownrider offers smoothly. "Somehow I think he's looking forward to it and dreading it all at once."

Watching her as she speaks on dragonhealing, "Why didn' ya go into it?" Jo asks, curious. "Seems like that would be somethin' ya'd be real good in." And, well. While Edyis backpedals on the next, there's a knowing look coming from the bluerider for it - even when she says, "Right. Yeah." There's a snicker nonetheless before she raises her arms above her head in a stretch and a yawn comes forth. "Well," she drawls, looking towards her couch, "ya don' mind that I crash, right? I could just take the couch. Had a pretty long day today, darlin'."

"At the time? Between learning skills a good little holder girl shouldn't know, and having to go home to tend to Gretvyn." She shrugs then, "I should have maybe made more time for it. Funny there's a lot of things I feel that way about now looking back." She swallows some of the wine with difficulty. "You are welcome to share the bed. I'm confident you are capable of keeping your hands to yourself." Ed however probably sleeps like a starfish and thus won't complain either way if she doesn't.

"Ya should get into it," Jo suggests, studying the brownrider before her with a few nods. "Somethin' tells me Akluseth'n ya would make good dragonhealers. Might be somethin' to consider again." She's up from the table with a stretch, drawing up her arms to the ceiling with a yawn before answering on bed sharing with, "I might cuddle a bit, or, hump yer leg." It's said with such a straight face. Whether she's joking or not, she's already intending to sleep the rest of the night away as she quickly clears the food back into the basket.

Yes; Alida is learning to not let her inner 'dialogue' turn into an outer one. / Alida in Snowdrift? Surely you jest! / Edyis was shitfaced! She was hearing guitars in her head. / And finally: Jo is taking her cue from Alida! In-weyr picnics! ;D
