Sho is sitting opposite of Nehvien on Nehvien's cot, likely without asking since Nehvien is looking pretty disgruntled at the moment. His short cropped hair is still damp, showing that he's likely just gotten out of the tub, and apparently it's warm enough from the bath and the nearby Sands heating the room that Sho has yet to put on a tunic. The amber eyed youth continues to grin at Nehvien as the other candidate rolls up the letter that Sho was trying to spy on and he shrugs, "Well that's okay, writing letters isn't that fun anyways, is it?" Sho asks, still not seeming to mind he invaded Nehvien's space.

The other candidate might not be bothered, but Nehvien is, his movements jerky and betraying his silent annoyance as he carefully puts his things away - out of reach of the other candidate. The letter - only partly written - goes into his leather pouch for safekeeping. "Well I, uh, kind of enjoy it," he retorts, making an effort to keep his voice mild. "Don't you uh, like writing to your family, telling them what you're doing?" He slips off his cot, standing to gain back his personal space, slouching in place. "You uh, seem better. Madilla's stuff fixed you up, huh?"

Jo's been at the barracks threshold right around the time that Sho makes his statements on Nehvien's cot. Lazy-like steps take her in and right towards where the fun clearly is, the former stablehand slipping something into her pocket before reaching them. "Got a problem with writin' letters?" she tacks on right after Sho's question, her intense dark gaze landing on Nehvien more so the other as she approaches. "Well. I see yer makin' friends still," and her eyes turn to Sho, the smile one of mockery. "Hope ya don't mind if I join," and if they did, well, Jolie's not bothering to apologize since already her backside's dropping down on Nehvien's cot right next to Sho. "I feel friendly. Whacha needed to see the healer for? Name's Jo," and she finally addresses Nehvien fully, flicking a gaze over him like she was appraising jewelry. "Seen ya around." Chatty much?

The amber eyed candidate turns on the cot as Nehvien gets up, crossing his legs under him and making the poor Nehvien's cot like his own. "Yea', I feel lots better." Sho agrees with a nod, tilting his head as he watches Nehvien. "And I don't really have any family ta write to, so I guess not. Any family I got left ain't worth it." He finishes then as Jolie suddenly lands next to him on the cot and he blinks, then rolls his eyes, "Fer one that doesn't like people nosin' inta their business, ya sure do it a lot." He snorts.

As yet another person takes up occupancy on Nehvien's cot, the scrawny lad lets out a frustrated sigh, secreting away the writing equipment in the locker at the foot of the cot. Retreating to the cot next to his - empty, likely due to his habit of snoring - the lad seems a little taken aback by Jolie's chattiness. He's silent while the two talk, then finally, answers Jolie, simply: "Nehvien."

"I'm takin' a sheet of hide from yer book, kid," Jolie answers Sho flippantly with a three-second smile before she turns it into something of overt concern. "And besides, I don't got much business. Not like -you-." Cryptic as that sounds, she doesn't elaborate - choosing to turn her interest onto his new haircut. Frowning a bit, "Why did'ja cut it?" she asks, having seen the young man around with the cut but haven't chose to remark upon it until now. Her gaze turns on Nehvien when he moves to another cot, regarding him for a moment until he answers with his name. "Nehvien," she tries it on for size, nodding a bit. Having watched him put the writing tools away, she nods toward his locker and adds, "Hey, if ya need anymore of that stuff? Come by my cot. I've got writing styluses as good as the ones a Lord Holder's got." Beat. "For a price, of course." Sho gets a brief glance, then, "Where're ya from?" she asks Nehvien then, seeming at ease to get in his business despite Sho pointing it out.

"Cause I wanted to." Is Sho's quick response as he rolls his eyes at Jolie and gets up from the cot, letting her and Nehvien chat. And since she's being nosy now...well, he mosies his way over to her trunk and glances back to see if she's looking, then crouches down and opens it slowly to take a peek inside. Yeah, he's asking for trouble. Always.

Resigned to the pair's possession of his cot, Nehvien instead stretches out on the cot nearby, one arm stretched behind his head serving for a makeshift pillow, closing his eyes. He mustn't be sleeping, as no ground-trembling snores come from him. It's only when Jolie says his name that he bothers to crack an eyelid, puzzled. "Why would I want anything as fancy as what a uh, Lord Holder has? My stuff does fine," he protests. "Crom," he responds after a pause, "You?" Sho's abrupt departure earns a raise of brows, and though he's not sure just whose trunk the boy is rummaging through, he pushes himself up far enough to watch.

"Fancy stuff last longer," Jo is trying her hand at selling, leaning forward more to watch the prone form of Nehvien. She seems to have let Sho go free from the cot for now, the young man's response to her on his haircut seeming to be expected. "I'll even give ya a discount...since we're fellow candidates and all." Eyes turn and at that moment she's not sure where Sho is going, she looks back at Nehvien when he responds on where he was from and she in turn says, "Keogh. A lot of folks from Crom here. Ya ever talked to Agnethe?" But then he's pushing himself up to see something beyond her and she's looking over her shoulder to follow his lead. As for the contents of her locker? There's random stuff in there like a map, bound hides, writing styluses bound together as well, and her yellow backpack half-opened. "Hey!" Eyes go wide and the woman's up and off of Nehvien's cot in an instant to track after Sho with a balled up fists.

Sho can't help himself as he grabs the biggest thing he can out of her trunk, that being the yellow backpack, and he quickly scrambles away from Jolie and up onto a random empty top bunk, grinning at her. "Hey, if yer bein' nosy then so am I." He says, not seeming to fear her too much at this point. Probably what she gets for being the only person who hasn't bloodied him up any yet. He tries to look through the backpack to see what he can before she gets close.

"Don't need it to last long," Nehvien counters, disinterested or merely playing it well. "It's the content that matters, not the uh, package." Running a hand through his hair, he frowns. "Agnethe? Can't say as I've met her. Why?" As Jolie's up and off his cot, he sits up to watch. A moment later, with a roll of eyes for Sho's words, he hops off the borrowed cot and back to his own.

"Content?" But then, Jolie doesn't have time to question Nehvien further when she spies her poor backpack in Sho's clutches. There's currently more bonded hides and maps spilling out from the jostled backpack, and it's only when Sho looks down that she launches herself at him over a couple of watching candidates. Ignoring the cries, "I'll show ya nosy!" she tosses Sho's way, grabbing at the backpack with one hand while trying to push him back hard with the other. She'll tug hard to try and free the backpack, the push seeming to act as a warning. "Ya -really- want me to kick yer ass, huh?" she levels at him low, turning that warning into a verbal one.

What a sight it becomes as Sho tries to hold onto the backpack but then as it's tugged free from him and he tries to readjust to not get tugged off the bed...but then she pushes him and he ends up waving his arms to try to balance. He fails miserably and falls off the top bunk, landing with a 'thud' on the opposite side of the bunk on his back, the wind knocked out of him.

Nehvien's brow furrows as he watches the pair, seemingly bemused by Jolie's warning. With a shrug, he rummages in his trunk, retrieves the writing equipment he just put away, tucking it under his arm. Without another look at the tussling pair, he slouches his way out of the room in search of somewhere quieter.

Once Sho manages to go down, Jolie shoulders the backpack and steps forward to look down at the former stablehand on his back. Sighing, "Warned ya, kid," she says, just a flash of regret for having doing so laid bare before she turns and finds Nehvien walking out. Lips press together at his retreating back, her expression unreadable before she's turning back around and bending down to offer Sho a hand up.

Sho is seeing spots for a few moments after he lands, catching his breath before he sees Jolie standing over him offering him a hand up. He looks up at her dubiously but does take the hand...then quickly tries to pull Jolie down to the ground. Not hard, but just enough to get her down before he tries to grab the bag again and get up to run more. If he fails, he'll just pick himself back up.

The backpack gets wrenched out of his reach, but Jolie's willing to go down in its stead. Landing beside Sho and shooting him a hard glance, "Awfully playful tonite," she goads, putting half of her body on top of the backpack so that the candidate would have to wrestle with her in order to try at it again. "What's yer issue, anyway? Ya just lost me a sale!" Nevermind the fact that Nehvien wasn't looking to bite at her sales tactics, but that seemed neither here nor there. Releasing her hold of his hand to sit up more, she takes a quick look around and finds those few candidates in the barracks to be staring their way.

"What's yer issue? Why do ya love that thing so much? Fer someone that doesn't mind poking into other peoples business ya sure have a lot of secrets." Sho says finally, standing up and dusting his pants off, trying to look at his back to see if there's any dirt on it from the floor. Apparently he stopped following Taikrin's suggestion to leave Jolie alone. No surprise there. "I just wanted ta see what kind of stuff ya liked ta do. Besides sneaking 'round everywhere."

Getting to her feet with backpack in tow, "I don't sneak," Jolie counters, sending enough glares around at the gawking candidates that they suddenly find something better to do than to watch them. "-Yer- the one sneakin' about, goin' through my things." Turning to face Sho fully with hands on her hips, "Thought ya were done with me and my secrets, anyway," she notes, a brow lifting at him for a explanation. "Wanna know what I like to do? Ask me." It's given simply, suggesting that if asked, she just might answer it. Might.

"Yeah, ya dun sneak. That's why I've seen ya sneaking around before." Sho bites back, turning to face Jo as he crosses his arms over his chest. "And maybe I was, at least Taikrin said I should be, but I dunno. The way ya try an' hide everything just makes me more curious, especially since ya won't even say anything 'bout yerself." At least not really. "Hard ta be friendly when ya don't know anything 'bout the other person." Meh, whatever. He just waves a hand at Jolie dismissively as he turns to go back towards his bunk to look for a tunic, perhaps using a little more aggression to sort through the trunk then needed.

There's that name. Taikrin. Jolie's brow raises at that before her eyes immediately narrow. When Sho turns away, she watches him without saying a word. It was clear there was an internal struggle going on, the guarded battle going on in her gaze as she toys with what to say next. Slowly, heavy steps take her towards his bunk, approaching him from behind before stopping altogether. After another lingering pause, "What is it ya wanna know?" she puts forth, her tone carefully neutral as she appears by his side. "As I said, ask. But," and she drops onto his cot, facing him with somewhat of a serious air. "There are some things that...." she pauses, frowning some before she seeks out Sho's gaze in the pause. She clams up then, her face turning hard as she puts forth a little forcefully, "It's not as if I know anything about -you-, either, other than about that girl ya fancy. This kinda goes both ways. Friend."

Sho looks up at Jolie as she nears and sits on his cot, and he actually looks a little surprised that she came over. He grabs a tunic and closes the trunk before he goes to the cot and sits next to Jolie, setting the tunic across his lap as he looks her over. "I just wanna know...ya know, about you. Where are ya from? What brought ya to the Weyr? If ya got secrets...well, we all do. But at least ya can tell me some stuff about yerself, yeah?" A small friendly grin is given then as he tilts his head a bit. "And ya already know more about me...but I'll tell ya other stuff if ya want."

When Sho sits beside her, Jolie takes a deep breath before sending a long look his way when he starts to speak. Her own answer is slow in coming, the woman darting around to see if any of the candidates nearby is listening. "Keogh, as ya know," she starts slowly, her intense gaze back on Sho now. "Born there. Raised there. Got four brothers, and they all are going to be guards like our pa." There's a little shrug, looking away from him as she adds, "Dunno where ma is. She just....left. I was suppose to be a guard, too, but..." Pause. "I just came here to get a new start," she starts over, not finishing the last statement with a twitchy shrug. "Nothing wrong with that, right? Got into some trouble a long while back, and now I'm here. Don't like to talk about it. Yer turn." There's no grin on her face, but she's looking expectantly at him to say something. Anything, really, since this is clearly the most she's ever told him about herself.

Sho listens quietly, not adding anything or asking any questions while she talks. It's only after she's finished that he nods, then takes a breath before speaking himself. "I was born at a runner hold near Southern. My mother died givin' birth ta me, so I never knew her. My dad was a rider from Southern but I didn't know until last Turn when he came back ta the Hold and before I knew it I was on a dragon ride ta Southern." A bit of a smirk then as he reaches a hand up to brush his fingers through his short spikey hair, looking down to the ground in front of him. "Was growin' my hair out ta remember the Hold and my Ma by. I went back just b'fore our trip ta the beach in Southern and went ta my ma's grave. So that's when I cut off all my hair with my knife." Deep exhale as he glances back to Jolie again. "I caused trouble for my 'Father' so he shipped me off here ta live with my Uncle. And here I am." Nobody really knows his story, so this is a bit much for him as well.

"I see." Jolie listens in silence to it all, her eyes never wavering from Sho until he finishes. "Sorry to hear about ya ma, though." Silence meets them again, then she's leaning back and sending her gaze to the ceiling. "I always wonder if my ma's dead," she admits quietly. "My da doesn't talk about her all that much. That was turns ago, though. Haven' been to Keogh in that long." Why and doing what is anyone's guess. "Liked yer hair long," she admits, finally looking back at him before she finally, slowly, gets back to her feet. She'll reach out and ruffle his hair if Sho doesn't pull away, her smirk showing bland on her face before straightening.

Sho nods to Jolie and offers a little smile. "Well hopefully you'll find out. I really miss my mom. Even though I never met her. Still just feels like I knew her better then my father even though he's still alive." When she stands and ruffles his hair he scrunches his face up but allows it. "That's the only time I'm gonna let ya do that." He warns her in a semi-teasing voice before he finally pulls his tunic on and stands as well. "See, now I don't have ta feel like yer just a creepy girl." He adds, still obviously teasing. "Maybe later we can talk again." This is actually serious before he steps towards the door. "I gotta go help serve today, so I'll see ya later." He offers with a wave, walking backwards towards the door.

"Not gonna," Jo seems certain she'll know of her mother's fate, and the way she says it suggests she could care less. "Yers stuck around till the end. Mine just upped and left." Once she finishes ruffling his hair though, Sho's response for it gets an easy wink before she herself is stepping away with her backpack. "Sure," she gives on talking again, though as always with that, there's that quick guarded glint in her eyes before she inclines her head towards him. "Get gone, kid. See ya." Like she's doing herself since she's heading off to the entrance and back out without any further words.
