Description

Red hair has a way of pulling the eye, and U'by's is no different. It's cropped short but contrasts his blushed but pasty skin. Light blue eyes and pink lips pull attention from a slightly too-big nose, distinctive ears, plump cheeks, and an oval jawline that might seem a touch soft. The rest of him is a little soft, too. He's fit enough, but there's not a chiseled muscle to be found anywhere on his 5'9" frame.

Most typically seen in his doe brown riding leathers, U'by makes up for that relative blandness with the shirts he wears beneath them: they're loud. No matter what the occasion, whether they're woven or finely knitted, all of them are brightly colored and frequently patterned. Tropical florals seem to be his favorite motif, but on different days geometric patterns may be featured instead, from argyle to checkerboard to zigzags. His boots are plain, though, well-worn and a slightly darker shade of brown than his leathers.

• U'by (once Willoughby) Impressed Defiant Doll Green Ekoth Day 8, Month 12, Turn 28 (Clutch: 33).
• He's of High Reaches Blood, but only distantly, never a ghost of a chance of succession. He was raised largely at High Reaches Hold, but spent some time as a student at Harper Craft before accepting the honor of search.
• He's a little neurotic. It's not so bad that he'd be deemed unhealthy, or so much that a dragon wouldn't choose him for a lifemate (obviously), but he's quite quirky.
• U'by volunteers in the archives, loves organization and organizational systems, and is frequently willing to help those who need it.
• Socially awkward, but a nice guy, U'by sometimes has a hard time 'fitting in', but he'll always give it his best go.
• He takes regular trips to Weaver and always returns with new socks.
• He wears loud shirts. Floral/tropical and otherwise. If it's cold, it might be a hideous and colorful sweater.
• If Pern has nerdy computer programmers, U'by would be one; insert stereotypes here.
• U'by is straight. (Girls only. Now if only he could stop being intimidated by them.)

History

Willoughby was born to holders Willouraiya and Ghaverby, third or fourth or sixth cousin, twice removed (no one can quite keep the exact relation straight) to the former reigning family of High Reaches Hold. As such, they didn't have much in the way of special privileges, other than being invited to Hold events as distant, but still Blooded, family. Willouraiya was good with organization, so she made her living helping as an assistant headwoman, and Ghaverby was an accountant for the kitchens.

Through family connections, and Willoughby's companionship to one of the more directly Blooded youths, the young man's parents arranged for him to spend some of his young teens as a student at Harper Hall. The only area he really excelled in was tending to the records. He had a neat script and a mind well-suited to organization and filing.

As such, when he returned to the Hold at sixteen, Willoughby took a position in the Hold's records, assisting the Hold's Harper and Records Keepers. Mostly it was a way for him to pass the time doing something he enjoyed, and in an environment where he felt comfortable. He was a clever lad, though never one to be considered socially apt, despite attempts by various cultured family members to refine him.

It was his choice, when the search dragon came, to go back to the Weyr and stand for the clutch. His parents didn't really understand, but at the same time, having managed to accidentally put off two suitable family-arranged fiancees with one mishap or another, they let him go without much of a fuss. A Blooded son (even distantly) who was unmarried at twenty-four was burgeoning on familial embarrassment.

As it turned out though, he just hadn't met the right kind of girl. Defiant Doll Green Ekoth took a long time in deciding on the sands on Day 8, Month 12, Turn 28, but the newly named U'by's surprise turned quickly to elation. He's never looked back with any kind of regret.

He was an exemplary student, at least when it came to book things. Ekoth was much more physically apt where her lifemate struggled to get with the program, physically. They helped each other, though, and made it through with mediocre success. Ekoth proved herself to be exceptionally agile, and so it was little surprise when they were snagged up by Icicle Wing to join their air-acrobatic brethren. Perhaps Ekoth just picked U'by because he has a strong stomach and always stays right with her. They're a solid pairing as riders go. He's been riding with Icicle since he graduated from Weyrlinghood and volunteering his time in the Weyr Records Room since.

Description

Lime is a stand-out color, and it wraps the length of this petite but fit green. It's muted though, taking on a pastel hue. So many dragons are a color with shades, shadows, and highlights, but not Ekoth. This green is one smooth swath of the same even color, as though someone took the time to carefully wipe away all the bits that would give her character or make her unique. In so doing, however, she's taken on her own kind of uniqueness. Her hide looks soft, her frame delicate, complete with dainty tail and sinuous neck all make her look as though one wrong move might have her snapping a silky-hided wing, but closer inspection reveals fine musculature, her slightness lending toward agility and flexibility.

Public Impression Message

One, two, three: in quick succession, two blues and a green are thrust into the sands, their limbs and wings akimbo. The two blues are quick to seek out their chosen ones, both locals, but the green takes far longer, eventually stopping short in front of a young Blooded boy from High Reaches, whose surprise is only tempered by his joy.

Mindvoice

Ekoth's mindvoice is as malleable as her temperament. It ranges from the ethereal and intangible, with a sensation of consuming calm to one that is very solid and can be anything she needs it to be, whatever fulfills her mission of the moment. Her voice falls into the alto range, and when she's more 'blank slate', her mind tends to come without a lot of visuals. When 'active', she uses whatever suits her needs of the moment. Notable is that when engaged in certain 'active' tasks, sometimes she cannot or will not use the same types of

Inspiration

Ekoth is based on rebel "Doll" Echo from Joss Whedon's Dollhouse.

Relationships

Aishani: Weyrlinghood classmate. She's attractive and a girl, so he was intimidated and kept his distance, which suited her fine. They see each other around in the Records Room, but the dynamic stays in place.

Azaylia: Weyrlinghood classmate. Friendlier with her, but still edgy/intimidated by her.

Tayte: Friendly-ish with her. He's still awkward and intimidated. Sensing a theme?
