Welcome to HRW! This page is designed to sum up basic useful information about the area. Amendments and additions welcome!
Contents
Overview
We're a small but friendly group who put a lot of emphasis on ongoing plots (both personal and on a bigger, more political scale) and developing interesting and engaging characters. High Reaches has an ICly pretty checkered history that means people often expect the worst; things are relatively calm inside the Weyr for once, at the moment... but not so much outside. And who knows how long that will last!
The Area
- High Reaches has a climate roughly similar to Whistler, Canada - long, relatively cold winters, and nice-but-not-hot summers.
- People dress accordingly (more details here).
- There are a number of Holds of High Reaches in our coverage area.
- People get paid according to these rates (which aren't much - the Weyr feeds and clothes her residents, so pay is really for extras).
IC Leadership
As of Day 13, Month 12, Turn 32, High Reaches' leaders are K'del (Acting) and Azaylia, following a tragic accident that left Z'ian unable to continue in his role. With Hraedhyth having most recently risen in Month 5 of Turn 32, it could be some time before any new leadership is confirmed.
Hraedhyth's flight originally brought to an end a long period of instability and Acting Leadership that can - in retrospect - be traced back as far as the ousting of former Weyrwoman Tiriana, in Turn 28. In the intervening turns, there were a number of leadership teams:
- Acting Weyrwoman Lujayn with Acting Weyrleader K'del (Turn 28-Turn 29)
- 'Weyrwoman' Iolene with 'Weyrleader' K'del (Turn 29-Turn 30)
- Co-Weyrwomen Azaylia and Aishani with B'sil and then Taikrin/H'kon (Turn 30-Turn 31)
- Acting Weyrwoman Aishani with Taikrin (Turn 31 - Turn 32)
- Acting Weyrwoman Azaylia with Sisha (Turn 32)
More details are available here.
OOC Leadership
High Reaches has a separation of IC and OOC leadership. Characters with IC rank do not necessarily have any more of an OOC leadership role than any other player.
The OOC admin team is presently: K'del, Leova and Taikrin.
To contact the admin team, feel free to page any member, +mail hrwadmin or send email to admins@hrweyr.net.
Recent History
A broad overview of major plots can be found here.
A timeline is available here.
Current Plots
- A Crisis Of Succession - Month 7, Turn 32 - Present
- At eighty-five no one expected Lord Ustelan of Nabol to live for terribly much longer; the only real hope was that he would officially name an heir before he died. Instead, his wife went missing - with rumours of a pregnancy, and proof of an acknowledged heir-to-be-born - and, following his death, chaos ensued, with several claimants to the Hold unwilling to back down. With the harvest soon to come in, and no easy resolution in sight, there's every chance the Weyr will get drawn into this, too.
- Character ideas for getting involved in this:
- Nabolese refugees;
- Characters with family ties to Nabol;
- Have a look at the Hooks page;
- Or something else entirely! Please ask if you need further ideas!
If you have any idea for a plot, please feel free to approach the admin team with it - we love to hear ideas! Personal plots are also most welcome.
Help With Character Development
- If you need a sounding board for your character development, the admin team is more than happy to help!
- Equally, do feel free to ask around to see if there's anyone who has an appropriate character to have existing backstory with yours.
Getting RP
- Ways of getting RP include: sitting in public, asking on channel, paging a person in particular, and so on. All of these ways are valid.
- This said, please be mindful that asking for RP on channel several times in quick succession can be frustrating to other players. Be patient!
- Please be conscious of other people's feelings. Attempting to guilt another player into playing with you is not cool; it is harassment.
- As a general rule, if a person is sitting in public, they're looking for RP. While sometimes you may not be interested in playing with that person at a given time (you've played with them recently, for example), asking for RP on channel, or going to sit in public somewhere else, can come across as rude.
- Don't just sit around waiting to be asked! While many players will ask, it is not anyone else's responsibility to get RP for you.
Conclusion
When in doubt, please don't hesitate to ask!
