Dabo! Egg
There's something weighty about this mid-sized egg, notable more for hue than size: it gleams nearly gold, fool's gold, yellow-metallic glazing sweeping each rounded curve. Suspended within that brilliance is a hint of silver, somehow glistening liquidly, captured amidst those outer layers like a rare jewel - protected, by the egg's shell, as surely as the hatchling within is.
The Dabo! Egg has been watched by all with bated breath, despite the fact that nearly-gold, fool's gold isn't really gold... and as it bulges impatiently and finally cracks, there's a squeal of dismay near echoed by the creel of hunger from the definitely-not-gold hatchling that tumbles forth, attempting to do so with dignity.
Empires and Excess Brown
Deepest mahogany ripples over the hide of this powerful brown dragonet, the mottled twists and turns of muddy clay layered with darker shades, creating a random undulating pattern that covers him from blunt nose to over-long tail. Each ridge and headknob is finely sculpted with a hint of upturned whimsy, while his limbs are contrastingly short, solid and ready for action, and his wide wingspan's sails are improbably touched with a deep red glow-- a ruby half-buried in the loamy earth. Bright-eyed, observant and discerning, his heritage is obvious in both the confidence inherent in his bearing and the sinewy muscle that will soon pack his stocky frame.
Temperament
If you, D'kan, were ever uncertain about living with another being in your head, Kazavoth never was uncertain about his space in yours. From the time he cracked shell on High Reaches' sands, he was intent on finding the person he knew needed his passionate love of life and home, of experience. Being a live-in-the-moment kind of guy, he didn't immediately see how your stability and grounding would balance his tendencies toward luxury and excess so very well, but he'll never admit to anything less than precise and perfect planning, no matter how many times you choose to remind him of the actual circumstances of Impression (and anyway, it makes a much better story his way).
In weyrlinghood, excess will definitely be a problem. Everything is new, so it's easy for Kazavoth to try to overdo every experience, either overwhelming you both, or making himself-- and maybe you-- sick. It's not enough for him to eat, he has to stuff himself; it's not enough for him to glide, he has to glide forever; it's not enough to fly, he wants to fly high enough to see something interesting. He'll also be very quick to develop a taste for the finer things, becoming discerning about cuts of meat, types of oil, the brushes and cloths you use on him. It will never go away-- in fact, it will become refined, which may be a bit of a pain-- but he'd never deny you anything he'd ask for himself, so why shouldn't you get yourself nice clothes and a decent meal while you're at it? (After you're finished with him, of course...)
While control in these matters will become less of an issue over time, arguing over them will not. If Kazavoth feels he has a decent, logical reason he should be allowed to do something, he'll continue to put it before you or Isath or Olveraeth until he gets his way or drives you all insane. He also has very little sense of fear, and a very great sense of fun, so may attempt to convince Ilicaeth, whose aggressive amiability suits his own sense of camaraderie, to find ways to get into trouble, if only to do something different and interesting. And then there's readily-persuadable Solith, who may become a relished sidekick in crime, and Ghislaith, whose idiosyncrasies are just so interesting. Boredom isn't much of a thing for Kazavoth. Boring people are bored. (Jhorith and his stubborn, methodical nature are beyond understanding. But he's a good guy.)
Though Kazavoth does take a page from his dam in terms of her intellect and constant thought, there is nothing of her inclination towards laziness and theory. He takes after Arekoth in being a dragon of action, but that doesn't mean he doesn't plan. It's just that he sees no reason to be still while planning; why can't you fly and talk about what you might do to support the wingleader you're backing? Why not think over a particular difficulty with a wingmate while going for a swim? There's no reason he needs to be lounging around for thinking or planning or considering past and future. It saves him from being an intellectual, despite the fact that he is quite clever. But it's not just love of life and being in the moment that drives his need for experience, and that pushes you to experience what you can as well-- there is some curiosity there, an interest trying in new things just to know new things, just to see what happens when you push the button. It might get you both into trouble, but the stories you'll be able to tell... the stories will be epic.
And Kazavoth loves stories, particularly those weighted with the turns; he has a strong sense of ancestry and lineage, the importance of history, and will collect (or steal) tales from other dragons, prevailing upon you to store and keep track of them. He truly believes in the wisdom of the ages, so to speak, but he also loves a dirty story or a tale of drunken debauchery as much as the next guy. If you're not careful, he'll share yours, until you get him to understand that you're not all that interested in sharing your exploits with the whole Weyr, thanks buddy. It may take some work, too: Rasavyth's supposedly casual interest and encouragement may win Kazavoth over even once he should really know better... even if he's felt the backhand of that bronze's occasionally two-faced intentions more than once.
This sense of history is not necessarily a sense of tradition, however-- he's quick to change his mind with circumstance, and is happy to debate current situations with you, both political and personal. Though outwardly, he seems like a good-time guy, when it's time to discuss serious matters, he's sometimes disturbingly sober and smart, showing you that he is always thinking things over, no matter how lightly he seems to take events at the time. He has a fierce pride for and loyalty to you, his home, and those he considers his friends and compatriots, in that order, and is happiest when he feels all of the above are secure. Though he can thrive in chaos and step up in times when leadership is needed, Kazavoth would be much more satisfied if he were able to work with you behind the scenes, letting other people take the spotlight, while your particular talents are appreciated by the people that matter.
Once matured, he will definitely appreciate the female dragons, inclined to be somewhat charming and attentive even outside of flights. He may not be particularly devoted to any one, but certain greens or golds that resonate with him will be the ones he's inclined to chase time and again, to keep in touch with over the turns. If he should sire a clutch, he will have an intense sense of paternal pride, his sense of the importance of lineage giving him a certain intuitive foresight that others might not have; he knows his line will continue on, and that will be something that touches him deeply. It may trigger an insistence that you take care of that too, if you haven't yet had children of your own.
As a wingrider, again, he'd prefer you both to work in behind the scenes or support roles rather than taking on the mantle of leadership directly. It's not that Kazavoth is irresponsible-- quite the opposite. It's just that he can see how position would affect you both and your time. How would there be time for new things and new places if so much of your life had to be devoted to the same old things every single day? That doesn't mean that, if there's a lack of leadership, he won't feel the need to step up and push you to do the same, but it's out of duty and loyalty to the Weyr rather than any serious interest in power for power's sake. But he wants to know what's happening regardless, and will always be interested in being near power, being aware of power, for all that he's not all that interested in it for either of you - so Athimeroth and Rasavyth will be always be somewhat intriguing, with their very different ways of going about getting it. And though not quite the same, Cailluneth's diplomacy will always be admired... until she loses her temper.
When you came to High Reaches, it might have been for many reasons, but in part to experience more of life. Kazavoth doesn't just want to experience life - he intends to tear life open, crack the bones and suck out the marrow, and make the most of every moment. He's chosen to take you along for the ride, D'kan, because there's no one else he'd rather have with him.
Public Impression Message
Being appropriately regal (if not refined) is difficult when covered in gritty sand, but Empires and Excess Brown attempts to wear the dirt like a mantle of velvet while reviewing the assortment of candidates laid out for him. Apparently, he has some idea of what he's looking for, his orange-tinged gaze quick to meet that of an observant dark-haired dockhand from the Hold.
Private Impression Message
The experience of the sands is exactly as fast and chaotic as has been described, but despite the heat, the trickle of sweat down the back of your neck becomes strangely refreshing, a river of cool water that flows down your spine, into you-- parts of you that you didn't know needed filling. It's not calming, but bracing, spring waters after the thaw, and suddenly you're aware that there's someone there with you... not separate, but not quite one, not ever again. Deep baritone pleased and presumptuous, « D'kan! There you are. » Kazavoth's decided you need a totally new name for your totally new life! « I'm hungry. Or you are. Either way, why not both of us eat? » It makes sense to him.
Mindvoice
Kazavoth prefers speech over images, and why not, with a deep, sonorous baritone that might be a lovely singing voice, were it not a dragon's-- though on occasion, he can be convinced, but only for you. He also might have been an orator in another life, with an inclination toward long speeches if he's permitted to go on. He's not as precise with his words as Rasavyth, but he enjoys words, enjoys using them and bantering with them. When he uses imagery, it's always touched with water, but freshwater rivers and lakes rather than the ocean waves of his dam; green banks, busy waterways, and misty still mornings.
Itchyspots
Given his stocky, solid build, it might seem odd that Kazavoth tends to be itchy along his upturned ridges, rather than his large feet or broad shoulders. But as he grows, and even into later turns, the tips and bases of his neckridges will often dry out and require extra attention. He'll also have issues along his wingsails, and may take to rubbing at his wings with the backs of his talons in an attempt to alleviate one itch or the other when he's younger.

Inspiration
Kazavoth's element is water (H20). Able to freeze solid and heavy in an instant, trickle unnoticed through the cracks, and gather in force enough to wipe away all traces of life, water is constantly changing, ever-moving and mutable - and like Kazavoth, will never truly be the same in any one moment. The Kazavoth you step in is not the Kazavoth you stand in, to badly paraphrase Heraclitus. His inspiration is Londo Mollari from the series 'Babylon 5', ambassador, gentleman and patriot. His name comes from the Russian words for 'water' - vody, and 'river' - reka, and playing around with those, as the Centauri always seemed to me to reflect the decline of the Russian Empire, and indeed all Empires, as they all must fall.
Egg Inspiration: Latinum (http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Latinum) is a rare silver-colored liquid used as currency within the Star Trek universe, usually suspended within gold to produce gold-pressed latinum. It comes in slips, strips, bars and bricks, and is often used for betting on dabo, a roulette-style game.
