Tithe Train
RL Date: 11 January, 2015
Who: Astivan, Hattie, N'muir
Involves: Fort Weyr, Fort Hold
Type: Update
When: Day 12, Month 10, Turn 36 (Interval 10)

The tithe train rolled into Fort Weyr in the afternoon of day 12, month 10. While all Holds' wagons were accounted for, there was a substantial lack of wheat and Fort Hold was short on more than just wheat. The tithe was overall smaller, as if Astivan had simply cut the Hold's entire tithe by ten percent.

By all accounts, Fort Hold appeared to be no worse off than the rest of the region so why was the tithe below average? Even Gar Hold managed to send a generous tithe (besides being short on wheat), despite having provided supplies for the winter festival that kicked off the new Turn. Although it could be that Gar might be trying to make up for the contaminated flour that had landed more than a few weyrfolk and festival-goers in the infirmary.

As a consequence of the wheat shortage, the Sanctuary has been closed to save what wheat the Weyr does have. Though the meal menu in the living caverns may have to take some unusual twists on traditional meal ideas this coming winter, it's unclear whether residents will accept another winter of belt-tightening or direct their frustration at whatever they perceive to be the root cause. Perhaps the only happy consequence of the wheat shortage is that there is an abundance of livestock, furniture, and other non-perishables.
