A re-match is had between Iceberg and Hailstorm in mock Threadfall. Iceberg ''demolishes'' Hailstorm embarrassingly. So much so that the nyah nyahs and neener neeners took a decided turn toward immature after the match and Iceberg's K'vel ended up in a fistfight with a Hailstorm rider outside Snowasis after a few drinks. He was given extra sweeps and duties as appropriate punishment but that doesn't keep some of his wingmates from helping him out with them, seeing as how he ''claims'' he was just defending Iceberg's honor.

Iceberg runs mock falls twice a month to keep in shape, but this month's mid-month fall is conducted a little differently. After a gentleman's wager is made between H'vier and Hailstorm's Wingleader B'ren, the two wings do the fall together. Hailstorm drops painted ropes for Iceberg and Iceberg for Hailstorm. At the end a tally is made to see which wing took fewer paint strikes for bragging rights and trading of the most boring sweeps. (By random roll,) Iceberg rules the day by fair margin. The match is agreed to be repeated in three month's time for the same stakes. In the meantime, Iceberg can feel free to maturely "nyeah, nyeah" or "neener neener" in the faces of the bested Hailstorm riders.

Reisoth catches Teisyth for a second time. There isn't much explanation offered when G'laer doesn't show up for drills the following day not much beyond the assumed idea that H'vier doesn't want a greenrider for a wingsecond - someone probably won the betting pool about how long it would last. * There's plenty of reason to grumble about his appointment to wingsecond since he's barely 3 turns out of weyrlinghood, even if he's got 'experience' leading men when he was a guard in Crom.
* In manner (when not proddy), he is professional to an extreme which includes a general lack of regard for feelings or sensitivities. Faranth help whichever woman comes to him with the 'I'm on the rag' excuse first for lousy performance.
* Still, for the first 2-3 months he's flying with Iceberg, he's largely a shadow, which counts for something, with some, since he isn't bossy from the get go, and even once he starts stepping up into his rank, he's direct, requiring that rules and regs be followed and respect given, but he's not ''unreasonable'' (some would say, anyway).
* After the first 2-3 months, G'laer seems the workaholic. He'll work with riders that need it outside drills, and file reports as though he liked paperwork. Though he was brought in by H'vier, G'laer doesn't seem to be a yes-man, though he's respectful with his objections and tends to make them in private when he has them.
* Where G'laer is stoic to an extreme, Teisyth is gregarious. She's really a delight, if not everyone's cup of tea. She's not refined, but she is enthusiastic. Under Reisoth's leadership, she's faring better as 'leadership' things go, as he seems to have a system of cues that bring her attention to where it needs to be. She's gullible and sweet. If you want to pull any shenanigans involving her, please let me know! She's very shenanigan-friendly.
Update 3 - February 1, 2015 - IC Dates D19 M12 T36 - D18 M2 Turn 37 - RL Dates Feb. 1 2015-Feb. 28, 2015

Wing Timeline (Notable Events) - Reverse Chronological Order

Day 5, month 2, turn 37 - Tuesday, February 2015
Bragging Right Get Better
A re-match is had between Iceberg and Hailstorm in mock Threadfall. Iceberg demolishes Hailstorm embarrassingly. So much so that the nyah nyahs and neener neeners took a decided turn toward immature after the match and Iceberg's K'vel ended up in a fistfight with a Hailstorm rider outside Snowasis after a few drinks. He was given extra sweeps and duties as appropriate punishment but that doesn't keep some of his wingmates from helping him out with them, seeing as how he claims he was just defending Iceberg's honor.

Day 16, month 1, turn 37 - Wednesday, February 18, 2015
New Knits
Evidently, someone suggested that Iceberg should have matching knit hats and scarves for winter and this has been the focus of the semi-successful social "crafting" group formed by some Iceberg riders. So on day 16, Makita makes the rounds to hand them out. One set for each rider! Matchy-matchy!

Day 28, month 13, turn 36 - Friday, February 13, 2015
Turnover
As per tradition, if there's no pressing matters for Iceberg to attend to, H'vier ensures Iceberg has off for turnover, and the first round in Snowasis is on him. Happy turnover!

Day 8, month 13, turn 36 - Friday, February 6, 2015
Snowy Sweeps
With winter well set in, the usual sweeps begin to seem even more monotonous than usual. With the cold weather and the seemingly endless stretches of snow blanketing the snow. To stave off boredom, some clever Iceberger started putting out a trivia list with a handful of questions that are challenging but relatively easy to remember to help keep the mind occupied (and not asleep in the straps). These lists will be available until after turnover, when they mysteriously simply cease. There's a tally board left on one of the tables in the Rider's Lounge to track correct answers for bragging rights.

Drills

Twice a month the wing engages with another wing for fake Threadfall (with painted ropes) over some of the broader plateaus just outside the Weyr. Fuelled by the win against Hailstorm in month 12, the wing has taken to these practices with more enthusiasm, enthusiasm which pays off at the rematch in month 2.

The focus of drills for this time period had changed due to the weather. With blizzard-season rolling in, Iceberg takes advantage of the foulest (still arguably safe) weather to practice maneuvers in less than ideal conditions.

Practice with actual firestone is limited to about twice a seven since there's no Thread to actually fight just now, and why waste the resources?

Social

H'vier still takes small groups of his riders for drinks after the duty day is over once or twice a seven in the name of wing bonding. He tries to take different people in the groups, but no Iceberg riders are turned away from joining.

Riders are now encouraged (but not required) to eat dinner together at the wing table in the living cavern on the first and fourth of every seven. More bonding makes for more better, right?

Update 2 - Jan. 15 2015 - IC Dates D9 M9 T36 - D18 M12 T36 - RL Dates Jan. 1 2015-Jan. 31, 2015

Wing Timeline (Notable Events) - Reverse Chronological Order

Day 18, month 12, turn 36 - Saturday, January 31, 2015
Mock Threadfall for Bragging Rights

Day 22, month 11, turn 36 - Friday, January 23, 2015
G'laer and H'vier, sittin' in a tree
Reisoth catches Teisyth for a second time. There isn't much explanation offered when G'laer doesn't show up for drills the following day not much beyond the assumed idea that H'vier doesn't want a greenrider for a wingsecond - someone probably won the betting pool about how long it would last. Within a few days, G'laer can be seen drilling with Equinox wing, wearing a plain wingrider's knot and avoiding his former wingleader.

Day 16, month 11, turn 36 - Wednesday, January 21, 2015
Transferable
A'rist informs H'vier of his intention to transfer to Taiga and receives his blessing, if not any excessive well-wishing or tears.

Day 15, month 11, turn 36 - Wednesday, January 21, 2015
An Injury in the Sky
During what should have been a routine change of aerial formation, J'zar's blue Rogzaith zagged when he should've zigged and nearly collided with brown Rosvelth. Fortunately, Rogzaith saw his mistake before disaster could strike. Unfortunately, not in time to do a graceful maneuver to correct. Instead, it was something of a bucking sharp turn which resulted in an injury (later, announced a pulled muscle) that left him needing immediate assistance down from the sky (thanks Rosvelth and Lythronath - few less claw marks next time, Lynner?). It's the sort of emergency maneuver everyone's trained for, but that rarely is implemented which results in a pronouncement by H'vier that it was sloppy. For the next month, this maneuver and others meant to preserve life and order within the wing are highlighted in drills. (Until approximately RL date Friday, January 30, 2015.)

Day 28, month 10, turn 36 - Friday, January 16, 2015
Day of Memories
All Iceberg members' first drink in Snowasis is on H'vier and his 'seconds in honor of the holiday and given recent events, many riders are given the day off. Only some, for whatever reason, end up having to work the day.

Day 6, month 10, turn 36 - Thursday, January 8, 2015
A Collective Sigh of Relief
Iceberg can breathe easier, and rest easier (and more plentifully) once the band of brigands terrorizing Nabol are caught. The intensity of wing sweeps subsides to the usual amount and Makita and friends go for drinks in Nabol to celebrate, thankfully without incident.

Day 20, month 9, turn 36 - Sunday, January 4, 2015
The Long Haul As the intensified sweep schedule drags on with the thieves still free in Nabol, H'vier and his wingseconds start shifting the schedule in answer to the wing's flagging energy. Riders start getting three days off together, though other sweeps are extended by a pair of hours to make up the difference in time.

Wing Atmosphere

Drills

Twice a month the wing engages with another wing for fake Threadfall (with painted ropes) over some of the broader plateaus just outside the Weyr.

The focus of drills has shifted a little to be more intensive of formations and maneuvers that require more exactness on the parts of riders and dragons. The smaller dragons tend to fare better overall than the larger ones in these because of the advantage of their size and maneuverability. After the incident on day 15, month 11, the focus shifts again to be on emergency type maneuvering, though both continue throughout this time period.

Update 1 - Dec. 1, 2014 - IC Dates D1 M13 T35 - D9 M9 T36 - RL Dates Oct. 6-Dec. 31, 2014

Wing Timeline (Notable Events) - Reverse Chronological Order

Day 1, month 9, turn 36 - Monday, December 29, 2014
Doubling Up
With the theft of Keogh's tithes, Iceberg has been called upon to more formally renew effort that have grown laxer over time since Makita's attack and the subsequent banding together of the wing. Along with Alpine, the wing's schedule is made busy with yet more sweeps.

Day 4, month 8, turn 36 - Saturday, December 20, 2014
The search renewed
It was not H'vier who motivated the renewed search for the thieves in Nabol, but the wing on the whole. While some were less affected than others by the attack on the unlucky Makita, there was no doubting she was one of their own and that introduced a new vigor to sweeps and following up on rumors. H'vier was supportive and obliging, shifting the sweep schedules around as much as was in his power to dedicate more of their time to Nabol. This persists through the rest of month 8 (RL date: approximately December 28, 2014).

Day 3, month 8, turn 36 - Saturday, December 20, 2014
One of our own
It might've stayed peaceful. It might've been your regularly scheduled wing exercises and duties. But a young Iceberg greenrider Makita, a once-Nabol refugee who Impressed with A'rist, G'laer, and Rh'mis, was out Nabol way on her day off, drinking with her friends from home, when she and her two friends were accosted. Kharyth's cry echoed through Iceberg around 11 p.m. that night. Danger! Makita got away with only superficial wounds and only because her sharp-boned lifemate came swooping low did the three women not suffer worse. Kharyth's priority was her rider, of course, and by the time others of the wing arrived, the assailants had fled. The girls were poorer and needed tending to by the Weyr's healers, but they could count themselves lucky.

Day 17, month 7, turn 36 - Monday, December 15, 2014
Business as usual?
Who can say what happened exactly. Suddenly, it's back to business as usual. Sweeps are still flown over Nabol, and H'vier still hasn't officially taken back his offer of commissions for information about the thieves, but he's a lot more relaxed at drills. Maybe he's resigned himself to never finding them. Maybe Fayla or G'laer finally talked some sense into him about not wearing out his wingriders on business that is only barely Weyr-business. No matter what it was, the results are the same: everyone gets their usual couple days off again! Yay!

Day 8, month 7, turn 36 - Friday, December 12, 2014
Rolling in the Hay
Results! Someone reported to an Iceberg wingrider who reported to H'vier that they saw two thugs sneaking out of their barn early that morning and suspect them to be some of those responsible for the thefts in the area as one was rumored to have occurred nearby the previous day. H'vier grabs a handful of available wingriders and goes to check it out. Check out the log.

Day 22, month 6, turn 36 - Sunday, December 7, 2014
Wingsecond's flight
G'laer was quite inexplicably cheerful the day before the reprieve began. Who could blame him? He and Teisyth were grounded by the following afternoon and before dawn on the 22nd (which some may know to be G'laer's 31st turnday), the green rose and was caught by her old beau and now-wingmate, Rosvelth. Everyone was thrilled. (Not even a little.) No one talks about it and everything goes back to normal afterward. (For another 4-6 months.)

Day 20, month 6, turn 36 - Sunday, December 7, 2014
A reprieve
The zealousness with which H'vier has been putting his riders on sweeps in Nabol begins to taper off over the next two sevens (until roughly day 6, month 7). Some riders claim they're still doing extra sweeps, but they're paid only for results. If they come up with clues as to where these thieves can be found, H'vier will kick them extra marks depending on what they turn up, but putting in the time for sweeps or rumor follow-up to get that information? That's on them.

Day 6, month 6, turn 36 - Tuesday, December 2, 2014
Temper, temper
Drills were demanding. H'ver was in a black mood and not a wingrider will sit idle for sweeps for the next two sevens (until roughly day 20, month 6). The sweeps are all in Nabol, and it comes down in rumor that they only were officially to sweep in Nabol three or four days after they started doing so. H'vier claims it was proactivity to heed the help requested by Nabol, but some say they heard H'vier say something about tracking down those bastards and-- well, doing things not very riderly. Some say, he's got a personal stake in one of the attacks, but of what kind, none can say.

Day 26, month 5, turn 36 - Sunday, November 30, 2014
Blow Up
It's curious that bluerider J'zar wasn't transferred with his Fayla-supporting friends, but perhaps the color of his dragon accounts for that. H'vier might be regretting that decision when the bluerider called him out as a coward, a lowlife and a cheat in front of the whole wing after drills. If there had been time for bets, probably a lot would've lost big since H'vier did not turn and punch the bluerider in his stupid face, but instead, completely ignored him, while G'laer acted the part of the competent wingsecond, stepping between the two and telling the younger rider that he was out of line with something more quiet for the man's ear alone. The rumor mill will come out in the next day or two with the fact that J'zar was given a plethora of extra duties, including a thousand word essay on why his actions were inappropriate.

Day 19, month 5, turn 36 - Thursday, November 27, 2014
The Inevitable: the first change
It comes as a surprise to some when, at the close of drills, H'vier lists four names, four names of vocal Fayla supporters, to see him after. The rumors get out quick; they've been transferred. Browns traded for blues and greens. Was it just to free himself of some of his most outspoken wingriders or is he aiming to change the make-up of the wing? Surely that kind of thing would have to go through the Weyrleader, wouldn't it? Speculation abounds.

End of month 1 to month 5
All Quiet on the Iceberg Front
The atmosphere has been a tense peace between all leadership parties. Everyone is getting adjusted to one another. No major changes beyond the introduction of the outside wingsecond have been put into effect. It's still like Fayla's leading the wing, only it's H'vier and Fayla is one of his 'seconds.

Day 21, Month 1, Turn 36 - Wednesday, October 22, 2014
The One-Time Storm Support Group organized by Fayla
The Riders' Lounge is booked for a private Iceberg event sponsored by Fayla. The remaining Fayla loyalists attend of course with some of the neutral parties and G'laer while H'vier shows up fashionably late with a handful of those he's won over. There's no overt friction but there is tension.

Day 13, Month 1, Turn 36 - Saturday, October 18, 2014
The Storm
A smattering of Iceberg riders (including Fayla, but neither H'vier nor G'laer) respond to Iesaryth's call. Those riders are given the next three days off and asked to write up reports to the best of their memories to submit to the records. The whole wing is excused from drills on Day 14, but duties are still performed. H'vier encourages the wing to assist the Weyr in recovery efforts and some riders are assigned to assist Tillek and SeaCraft with their own recovery efforts. Some riders are assigned sweeps over the ocean and along the shoreline to recover obvious wreckage (which, for some, might include bodies, cargo, salvageable parts, etc.).

Day 5, Month 1, Turn 36 - Thursday, October 16, 2014
Teisyth rises!
G'laer's Teisyth rises mid-afternoon and is caught by Jo's blue Tacuseth.

Day 3, Month 1, Turn 36 - Thursday, October 16, 2014
Drinks on the wingseconds!
Drinks on the wingseconds in the Riders' Lounge! Teisyth is proddy, so she shows up only long enough to drop off an exceptionally congenial G'laer before going off to hide somewhere. This might give some members of Iceberg an incorrect notion about what their wingsecond transfer is like in his off duty hours.

Day 28, Month 13, Turn 35 - Wednesday, October 15, 2014
Turnover!
As it is for most, Iceberg is given the day off from regular duties to enjoy the turnover festivities. They'll be expected back to usual drills on Day 3, Month 1.

Day 21, Month 13, Turn 35 - Sunday, October 12, 2014
First day of drills with new wingseconds
When drills begin this day, the wing is reintroduced to Fayla in her reduced rank and transfer G'laer. Aside from H'vier and Reisoth's usual and professional demeanor, the trio of leadership pairs are very tight-lipped. G'laer is all but silent while Teisyth is her usual gregarious self, though more focused than those in weyrlinghood with her knew her to be. Reisoth seems to have a pacifying effect on some of her enthusiasm, which is to the good. Fayla is tight-lipped and doesn't say much about her change in circumstances, though she completes her duties with her usual competence. For the first month or so, G'laer is a shadow, saying little and observing much. He's professional but stoic. At least he isn't trying to walk in and boss everyone around though, so that's good, right?

Day 20, Month 13, Turn 35 - Sunday, October 12, 2014
Fayla accepts the wingsecond's knot
Having heard the rumors of another wingsecond, Fayla accepts H'vier's offer. Perhaps she hoped that accepting would put a halt to a transfer in, or maybe she just thought she was losing her window of opportunity even though she, reportedly, had until turnover to decide. Either way, she got her knot. But she wasn't the only one.

Day 17, Month 13, Turn 35 - Saturday, October 11, 2014
Rumor surfaces about wingseconds
Rumor surfaces to interested members of Iceberg that someone heard from someone who heard from someone reputable who heard from someone down in the caverns who does the pay paperwork that H'vier had put in a request to transfer a greenrider from Alpine to become wingsecond in Iceberg.

Day 7, Month 13, Turn 35 - Wednesday, October 8, 2014
H'vier offers Fayla a wingsecond's knot
H'vier is seen meeting with Fayla in the Riders' Lounge as neutral ground that has alcohol. Their conversation is quiet but tense and little escapes to eavesdroppers, but J'zar who's known to be close with Fayla spoke with her after and spilled the beans that H'vier offered her a wingsecond's knot at K'del's behest and she said she'd think about it.

Day 1, Month 13, Turn 35 -
H'vier becomes Wingleader
After months of acting as Iceberg's Wingleader in Fayla's place, H'vier leaves his latest Wingleader meeting sit-in as Iceberg's official Wingleader. There are no changes in how the wing's duties and drills are performed. As with Fayla's leadership and when H'vier was acting in her stead, Iceberg drills quite regularly, with an emphasis on keeping threadfall practices and procedures alive, despite the Interval. H'vier begins hand picking small groups of wingriders once or twice a seven and buying them drinks, sometimes more, in the name of bonding.

Wing Atmosphere

Drills
Being a wing comprised largely of bulkier beasts, the primary focus of Iceberg's typical drilling are maneuvers that lack the acrobatics of some other wings, although there have been some new drills added since H'vier took over leadership which try to make use of their light-weights as best they can to help cover the theoretical gaps against the Thread they're theoretically keeping in form for, just in case. Practice with actual firestone is limited to about twice a seven since there's no Thread to actually fight just now, and why waste the resources? Twice a month the wing engages with another wing for fake Threadfall (with painted ropes) over some of the broader plateaus just outside the Weyr.

Social
H'vier takes small groups of his riders for drinks after the duty day is over once or twice a seven in the name of wing bonding. He tries to take different people in the groups, but no Iceberg riders are turned away from joining.

Riders are encouraged (but not required) to eat dinner together at the wing table in the living cavern on the first of every seven.

Leadership WYSK

H'vier

 • Impressed at Ista Weyr in Turn 14, transferred to High Reaches in Turn 30.
 • He became Fayla's Wingsecond in Turn 32 and, surprisingly to some, they developed a pleasant working relationship. He was a competent, hard-working Wingsecond and become close to a number of the wingriders, who remain loyal now that he's Wingleader.
 • Under H'vier, Iceberg doesn't function remarkably differently than it did under Fayla. He's professional while on duty, generally even with the female wingriders and greenriders, expecting the wing to do their jobs well and giving extra duties to those who perform poorly on a regular basis. Though there are the rumors of extra duties (and extra pay) that he gives to his more loyal riders.
 • H'vier is competent, but some might argue that it's Reisoth's guidance that allows his rider to thrive in a position of authority. The bronze is incredibly intelligent, somewhat emotionally detached, and hyper-observant with an impressive memory. Though he's not always the most socially adept of dragons, he's quite capable of acting the part and the wing is generally avoided in his fits of antagonistic boredom. He doesn't form close bonds with other dragons, even his bond with his rider seems a necessity more than anything at times, but he seems to have an uncharacteristic, and totally platonic, affection for G'laer's Teisyth.

Fayla

 • Brown Morinth's rider, Fayla Impressed at High Reaches during the comet pass, and flew originally for Glacier.
 • She was transferred into Iceberg as Wingleader under Taikrin's Weyrleadership; she faced an uphill battle from the start, given the wing had been loyal to their previous leadership. Nonetheless, the wing did fine, and, over time, people become accustomed to her... mostly.
 • After the birth of her daughter, in turn 35, the wing was taken away from her. Surprisingly a lot of people, she accepted H'vier's offer of a Wingsecond's knot; this does seem to have brought her supporters at least partially into the fold.
 • Since then, she's been quieter than she used to be, and if not completely a team player, certainly competent. She does nothing more than she needs to, but no one can accuse her of neglecting her duties.
 • She's considered 'butch' by many, but seems to enjoy both male and female company.
 • Morinth is something of as sweetheart; warm and friendly and good with words.

Wing Updates

Note: updates are on hiatus until there are more PC wingriders to make use of them. In the meantime, I've resorted to the small-scale and mystical form of communication that is paging so if you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to page H'vier.

 • Goal: These updates are intended to provide RP fodder and make things more fun, not less. If you find them (or some part of them) restrictive or otherwise unhappy-making for you as a player, please let H'vier know and he'll gladly work with you!
 • Contributors: Anyone in Iceberg is invited to edit these updates to add your own color. If it's something that impacts another Iceberg rider directly or would result in action by the wing's leadership, please chat with the relevant party/parties before posting (common sense and all that). If you are not a member of Iceberg, but have an idea to contribute, please page H'vier!
 • Frequency: The hope is to post these on or around the first of the RL month that will project wing happenings for that RL month. If you have something you want to have appear with the initial update (instead of an edit by you) or if you have an idea for Iceberg/stuff you want to play with or around, please +mail or page H'vier.
 • What else?: Is there something that isn't here that you'd like to see here? Is there some basic information you'd like to have on hand for RPing your character as an Iceberg rider? Please page or +mail if there's something you'd like to see here that isn't or if there's stuff here that you don't like seeing! This is an evolving process to see what works. Feedback is part of that process and encouraged! Thanks!
