Pop Goes the Luck Egg

One end of this egg is a shiny black color that forms an umbrella over the rest of the colors worn on the shell should it find itself perched just so in the sands. A thin line of brown runs down one side to the other end where it swoops in a curve to the right. Underneath the black overhang, along the rest of the shell, can be found several other colors, like bright blue shapes lying beside green and yellow stripes. It's as if a whole tumble of shapes and colors have been scattered about to cover up the pale cream color of the rest of the egg's shell. The shapes and random placement might bring to mind the way a floor looks when someone hurriedly tosses items down to it rather than put them up in their proper place.

Pop Goes the Luck Egg rocks forward one last time, the fissure along its shell turning into a chasm which sends many smaller cracks spreading out. Tiny fragments of color fleck off, showering onto the sands and spilling out a glistening, goo-covered green. The petite hatchling unfolds, dainty wings spreading to dry and help with balance alike as she pauses momentarily, taking in the sudden change in environment before setting off to find what she's looking for.

Blossoming Bright Apple Green

She glistens, this small green: intense, bright apple hues gloss over her hide, reminiscent of a freshly-washed piece of fruit. Highlights of yellow, like the tendrils within a blossoming flower, accentuate large headknobs and swirl down to color 'ridges which frame wide eyes that seem almost too large to fit in her delicate, wedge-shaped head. The rest of her is small, from a tiny, rounded snout to a narrow chest and back which taper to a long, thin tail colored with a subtle tint of brown. An even tone of green spreads over her slender neck, the peaks of her neckridges touched with faint dapples of the same brown of her tail. Diminutive wings shimmer at her sides, nigh-translucent wingsails traced with gossamer strands of ethereal, pearly white. That shade echoes in talons that tip paws of a darker, leafy green, managing to easily support her despite their small size. Slight of frame yet bold and bright, delicate grace imbues the crisp, clean lines of this dainty green while a certain sense of awareness suffuses her demeanor.

Temperament

Leisath is clingy and protective and loves to teach through riddles and puzzles. She'll lead you and her comrades along with rich, vibrant images, but her mental strength cannot help her dainty frame. She will always find physical exercises challenging, but knows that with your help, she'll succeed. She'll also need your reassurance when it comes to darkness and water, and might need you to rein in her obsession with advice.

As a weyrling, Leisath will be an interesting paradox. Her bond with you will be intense and she'll be one of the clingier dragons, always protectively hesitant to let you go anywhere without her, even just for a meal. Still, her immense trust of you means she'll listen to your requests. From the start she'll enjoy the mental exercises the most, relishing in the ability to send you rich images, ideas, and emotions. It's physical training where she'll need your constant encouragement and support. Her dainty body does not lend itself well to muscle building, and, making things more difficult, she won't see the purpose in such training. « But why must I stretch my wings and legs when I can already stretch my mind so well, Avey? »

Leisath will adore time with her clutchsiblings. She views dragons she's close to as a tightly-knit team and is willing to share anything with them, as if she wishes all of their minds could be one. As a young dragon, she won't know how to handle all these intense feelings of love and devotion and will be incessant with her chattiness, flirtation, and vibrant images. It can be overwhelming, especially since she loves to question her pals--often with riddles.

Oddly, Leisath's greatest challenge in weyrlinghood will be bath time. She claims even Ista's warm waters make her feel cold and she'll rarely submerge herself unless you fiercely reassure her. She'll panic if she can't breathe, which will also be a problem when between lessons roll around. Leisath will love visualization, but she'll hate what she considers to be the darkest and coldest ocean of them all. Her temper and keen sense of self-preservation might even flare in petulance: « Can we not just fly straight there, Avey? We'd see so many great things on the way. »

Once she's grown, Leisath will often be a delight to you and others. The unremitting adoration lavished on her clutchsiblings will never quite fade. Those close to her will know of her affection. Pleasant chattiness and delicately crafted images will be offered as tokens of her fondness to dragons closest to her, though those same pictures still taunt her pals with riddles. As her instinctive empathy grows stronger and more developed, so too will her skill in detecting when she's gone too far and sometimes you'll earn a bit of well-deserved solace.

Her aptitude towards clever mental exercises will only develop further as she does, too. She will encourage you, Avey, to keep up with your studies and impress upon you the importance of mental acuity, with as much persuasion as she can muster: « Revise the wing formations, please. Afterward, we will fly up to the Star Stones and watch the sunset together, yes? »

Leisath will always rehearse and put into practice her many skillful techniques to sharpen her own intelligence and will have a propensity for giving advice to all around her. You will quickly find that she has a keen sensitivity to the emotions and thoughts of both you and others, with an inherent ability to sense anxiety or anger. Her response to these particular emotions will be especially forceful, whatever their source: « Avey! No, I will not be around such negativity! We must leave! » It will require all your own understanding and compassion to ease her out of the unhappiness she will feel after coming into contact with such feelings; you must be patient with her in those times, and most of all, reassuring. Her fear of dark waters and between will recede, but never quite go away. With maturity will come a tense, uneasy tolerance of these horrors.

A more flirtatious side of Leisath emerges when her hide begins to glow. Of course, considering her usual glistening look, it may be hard to spot. An easier way to tell when a flight is coming up is when she starts making you do what appear to be silly rituals. You should take a fresh peel from an apple and toss it off of your ledge; whatever letter it forms will be the dragon winner of the upcoming flight. Or perhaps twist the stem while chanting the alphabet; whatever letter it pops off at will be the beginning of the winning rider's name. She may even want to take a break from the simpler straps she normally likes in favour of fancy straps embroidered with flowers.

During the flight itself, Leisath will rely on tricks and agile moves since her dainty frame will have little stamina. The riddles she loves will take centre stage and she'll play mind games with her chasers--or victims. She'll dive into any cloud she can find, taunting, « Can you see? » She may even use her powerful mindvoice to trick her male suitors, sending convincing images of her flying in the opposite direction of where she's actually going.

Once you and Leisath are tapped, Avey, you'll find her strength lies in the support and encouragement of others. She'll attempt to bond with her new partners, desiring to know them almost as well as she knows herself and her clutchsiblings. And though her strong point will continue to be her sharp mind and acute sense of empathy, Leisath will quickly appreciate the graceful synchrony of drills, even if she must work that much harder to keep up with her wingmates.

She'll seem to know, almost innately, how to work best within a team. Her sweet words will be best put to use cheering on those dragons who may not have her own perfect ability to blend with others, offering them kind advice or support: « Don't be so anxious, Chadamalith. Perhaps if you speak with our wingleader and explain your own side of the story, things will not seem so dismal. » Even you, should you run into trouble, will find your dragon to hop to your defense, and once her bursts of temper subside, be ever the source of thoughtful mediation.

Leisath's ability to function in tandem with others stems from how comfortable she is with her peers. Though she may never aspire to be a great leader, she will excel in command given a small group with whom she is very close.

Internal Impression Message

The action and chaos of the hatching sands suddenly disappear in a brilliant flash of light--but is it really just a flash? It seems to last for minutes, hours, days... It banishes any dark doubts or worries, leaving only a pure white, almost blinding, light. A laugh ripples through the luminosity that sounds eerily familiar, as if it has been lying dormant in your heart, just waiting for a chance to come out and play. « Do you know my name? » The light and laughter begin to fade, but that fierce connection remains. « It is Leisath, but you knew that. Can you see now? » An outline of a dainty green can now be made out in the hazy, vibrant light. Her hide shimmers even as the light fades, while her large eyes stay firmly fixed on you, as if she can see right into your soul. And she likes what she sees.

External Impression Message

Her movements across the sands may be unsteady, but the Blossoming Bright Apple Green is sure of her choice. The dainty hatchling seems to take more time than her siblings to locate her match, but her large eyes are firmly fixed on a copper-haired tomboy during the entire trek.

Mindvoice

Leisath's voice is distant and whimsical, like a light breeze rustling the blossoms of an orchard or wind created by a wherry's flapping wings. It is singsong and lyrical, as if always telling a children's story; calming, but gently assertive. Rich illustrations accompany her tales, vibrant and intricate, drawn from every source she can think of. When angry, those images are darker, with a cold, crisp edge and a curt, tart tone. When frightened, nearly all her images vanish, leaving an eerie trickle of cold water that serves to increase her panic--she'll need reassurance from you to calm down when that happens.

Itchyspots

The glistening nature of Leisath's hide also manifests itself physically. It's hard to figure out when she needs oiling because her skin often feels wet to the touch. She also tries to hide her itchiness to avoid being washed, but a small frame means oiling will be quick and less frequent. Her main trouble spot is under her chin--a place conveniently easy for her to hide.

Dragon Inspiration

Your Leisath is based on a mixture of Agatha from the movie "Minority Report" and various apple superstitions, such as tricks said to help find out your future husband or lover's name or initials. Her description and girlish, flirtatious tendencies come from those superstitions while her ethereal, glistening aspects come from Agatha. The fate of Agatha's mother inspires her fear of water and darkness; her use of light is based on sun-soaked images of Agatha from the movie. See these links for more info:

Name: Leisath - Leisath comes from the German word for compassion, mitleid, combined with the softer s-sound of -sath. It also evokes leis, Hawaiian flower necklaces, which creates a feminine, flirty feel.

Egg inspiration: Opening an umbrella inside is considered to bring bad luck raining down upon you especially if that umbrella is black.
