| − | Born as the fifth son of Minecrafters Wakina and Zianarius, Wakizian’s destiny was clear from the start. Coming from a long line of salt-of-the-earth Minecrafters, there was no question where his life was heading. His baby years were spent with his journeywoman mother at Tillek Hold, and when he was old enough to get along without her, he was sent back to Minecraft Hall where his father, a master miner lived. There were two more siblings to come along behind him, and the family lived quite happily together once Wakina walked the tables to get her Master’s knot and receive a posting to the main hold with her husband a few turns after Wakizian moved back. He had an average childhood, with more than his fair share of pet rocks.
| + | |
| − | | + | |
| − | When Wakizian turned eight, his parents were from the contingent of Minecrafters sent to help excavate and repair the High Reaches Weyr caverns after the meteor strike. There was more work than skilled hands to do it, so Wakizian began helping out with small tasks that a young boy was capable of doing. In the process, he met Journeyman Smith Thraland who worked with his parents and became enthralled with the idea of making refined items out of the ore and rocks his parents were so fond of. In a great family scandal, Waki broke with tradition and leaped at the opportunity to apprentice to the Smithcraft as soon as he was old enough. Thankfully, his parents were soon after re-assigned once the new caverns were up and running, giving Wakizian the space and focus to train properly.
| + | |
| − | | + | |
| − | As changes in staffing of the Smiths at High Reaches began this turn, with new journeymen and apprentices coming in, Wakizian's apprehension about being sent elsewhere for longer than a season course (like the one during which he became friends with Nicky back at SmithCraft Hall) growing, the Senior Apprentice began to try to find ways to ensure that he was able to stay at High Reaches, his home. Healer Madilla who has long tended his boyhood scrapes and the aftermath of hammer mishaps, offered him the sage advice of just talking to his Journeyman and making sure Thraland was aware he wanted to stay at 'Reaches. Instead, he ended up having a chat with his childhood crush, Quinlys, who suggested he might like to Stand for the clutch. And to one who's not the brightest glow in the basket, the answer became clear: Stand, Impress, never have to leave 'Reaches again! If only life were so simple. And what about his Smithing? Didn't he sort of LOVE his craft?
| + | |
| − | | + | |
| − | As it turns out, life really was that simple! He Stood. He Impressed on Day 1, Month 4, Turn 31. Then life got a whole lot harder. Enter Rasavyth, a bronze with a ruthless penchant for power, but who outwardly seems like a charming and dutiful dragon. So begins the epic tale of Logs:The Brain and the Brawn, Part 1: A Bargain Struck

| |
| − | K'zin: In the first few weeks, K'zin was mostly just confused. He was his usual good-humored self, but watching the other weyrlings interact with their dragons, he began to feel a bit left out simply because his lifemate is not very outwardly affectionate. So that paired with usual adjustment pains had him looking confused more often than not. He speaks little about his lifemate, sharing few personal details, which might seem a bit off since that's the topic du jour for so many. When asked, he'll say that Rasavyth is strong, intelligent, charming, and funny. The fact that Ras has been telling dirty jokes since his first seven is no secret. It's also no secret that K'zin won a hefty bet on his own Impression and Ras is planning on spending every mark of his now sizable (for a former senior apprentice) life savings on new clothes. His friendship with N'ky has been strained since hatching, improving on the 16th day of month 4.
| |
| − | Like the other weyrlings, K'zin is tired, and spends most of his time in the company of his new lifemate. They are often seen walking the bowl together, the bronze looking aristocratic, the boy looking thoughtful (or like his ears should be smoking)! K'zin is also quite strict about adhering to an exercise routine and has impressed upon Ras the importance of this, so they do it together, almost every day.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | Rasavyth: Initial impressions of Rasavyth's mind will show a shimmery transparent ooze that quickly adapts to whatever sounds, smells, or textures presented by the other's mind. When speaking with a group, he tailors his interactions to all in turn. The only thing that sets his reflections apart from the original is a thin sheen of transparent oozy charm that fills in available gaps or sits upon the surface. His words are always clever, charming, and measured. His voice is a pleasant, purring tenor. There's almost always amusement whether open or veiled. He seems a very good-natured, friendly sort of fellow. There might be something about his touch that makes dragons a little uncomfortable, but it's not anything that can be named or readily identified, just something. Otherwise, he's everyone's friend, enjoys a good joke, and is quite polite. Physically, Rasavyth doesn't care for exercise or strain but does it because his lifemate insists. His oversized wings make him a bit clumsy and not the strongest or fastest of the weyrlings.

| − | Local/world history: Fail! He's alright on the stories of what's happened but the when and the where? He's miserable at it. And the geography bits? Forget it. He thinks you could leave Southern Boll on foot and end up in Benden by nightfall.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | In the second month, K'zin's confusion and frustration seem to be abating. He and Rasavyth seem to be settling into a pattern of being together. The two are coming to an understanding and learning to work together. Rasavyth still does exercises only grudgingly, but K'zin has been spending extra time training as often as he can. He's not used to so much book work not paired with the hard labor of the forge. He's been getting to the forge when he can, and volunteering (with frowns from the
| |
| − |
| |
| − | K'zin, like the others who are struggling with history, is studying hard, but also looking for better options. He's started recruiting people to work on a table top miniature trivia board game to help the weyrlings with their history (+bbpost 7/11). Other than studying, he's been seen to eat dinner with Sabella more often than not, and things are once more a little weird between K'zin and N'ky (since night of day 7, month 5).
| |
| − |
| |
| − | Rasavyth has been showing more sides of himself. There's always charm, but he's had his moody moments, his playful ones, even his rarer cuddly ones. In evidence of their growing intimacy, K'zin has been spotted to nap with the bronze in Rasavyth's couch from time to time.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | === Month 3 ===
| |
| − | It's been a doosie of a month for K'zin and Rasavyth. At the beginning of the month, everything was rolling along. They appeared to be the perfect little weyrling pair: doing their duties, dragging their feet just enough, getting excited just enough, following the ru... wait. No. Not that one. Some of the observant might have noticed K'zin having more than one drink when he oughtn't.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | Then there was the incident. The one at the lake (Logs: Bathing Bedlam) on day 11. Everything seemed to change after that. He was in the infirmary two days and on light duty for another three until his various injuries (most notably his broken nose) had healed enough to get back into regular action. Rumor tells that he broke the rules and lost all his privileges indefinitely. He's been since seen keeping to only public areas or accompanied by one of the weyrlingmaster's dragons when he has to go off to do something on his own (most notably his extra hunting trips with the horrible hunter Rasavyth at lunchtime). He threw himself into all weyrlinghood has to offer with renewed vigor. He's almost never seen without a book or a good bit of sweat, spending his free hours studying or doing extra exercise. For a more complete look at this time period for K'zin, see Logs: A walk in the boots of a changed man. He's still working on that game in the training cavern as time allows, he's hoping for it to be ready by next month to help those in remedial classes test out.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | One very notable change since day 11 is that Rasavyth has been his near-constant companion. Where other dragons were clingy at birth, Rasavyth never was. He's not particularly touchy-feely with his rider even now, but when K'zin is awake, they are almost always together, both actively engaged in the task at hand, whether it's studying or exercising or whatever else.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | Rasavyth, for his part, has not been excelling with the physical tasks of being a dragon; almost as if those tasks don't come naturally to him the way so many mental things do. He does try quite hard, but in the mornings when all the weyrlings feed, he'll take advantage of the good hunters to scare up his own meal, hence the extra trips on his own to make him learn to do it all himself. With gliding, too, he's not been the best. He does steadily improve (in small ways) from session to session with the gliding, the hunting, it seems, is harder for him to make progress with.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | === Month 4 ===
| |
| − | As K'zin's punishment went on, he followed the letter of the law (so to speak). He was never seen in a non-public area without an appropriate escort (except for this once in the Stores). He put real effort into everything: drills, lectures, exercises, remedial classes. He was almost never seen without a book. When he was seen with a book, he was almost never without his dragon. They studied together and largely isolated themselves from social exchanges. They were both still plenty friendly during drill and lecture, but in their free time, they kept to themselves, throwing themselves into the rigors of self-improvement. One might say that he avoided everyone equally, but truthfully, he avoided Sabella most of all and kept himself being alone with anyone, as much as possible.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | === Month 5 ===
| |
| − | This month began much the same for K'zin. He kept his nose to the grindstone (or study book), avoided distraction and temptation but was surely the consummate professional when it came to weyrling duties. At the beginning of the month, he tested out of his remedial classes and found himself with time to spare. He approached Quinlys to ask for additional work to keep him busy and ended up asking about sitting in on the silver thread lectures/lessons. Since she said anyone could attend (not the Wingleader meetings or the special things, but the lectures), he started sitting in on them regularly. She also told him his punishment was complete, at last! (Logs: Leadership Potential)
| |
| − |
| |
| − | The restoration of privileges and Sabella's accident, together, prompted him to pull his head out of his butt and stop avoiding everyone (Logs: If these were the last moments...). To his dismay, he had a lot of idiocy and hypocrisy to make up for (Logs: Apologies, Again.). As N'ky became more withdrawn, things between he and K'zin seemed to be at another low point. He kept up his hard work and added extra study time with the healers for first aid and anatomy to his roster of activities along with wrangling Craft apprentices to paint the back drops for Mave's play. He also has been vanishing at lunchtime a couple of times a seven, anyone following would lose him in the foot-traffic of the Inner Caverns at lunchtime.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | A number of interesting events occurred that might be rumored of, including a confrontation with N'ky (Logs: Confrontation) paired with a trip to the healers (Logs: Bruise Balm) and a near-miss at being reported for rule-breaking (even though it only seemed that he was) by I'zech (in two parts: Logs: Shame and embarrassment and Logs: Boots of... doom?), gaining a mentee in the form of a Craft apprentice (Logs: Artistic License), and a secret sucky turnday (Logs: Happy Turnday to Me.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | === Month 6 ===
| |
| − | K'zin had a lot going on during month six, both in personal and professional developments. He began to work extra hard in his weyrling duties (some might speculate it's because of the two bronzers in charge of the wing and the idea that what's good for one bronzer is good for all, since none had been picked for Silver Threads or leadership up to this point). Getting their weyrs was the hot topic at the beginning of the month. s a testament to how dedicated he's become to (at least giving the appearance of) following the rules, he quashed Alida's plans to go check out the weyrs beforehand (Logs: Quashing Quests). That same night, (after having gotten permission from Quinlys earlier), he re-proposed his first date with Azaylia (originally proposed on day 24, month 2 in Logs: Smiths N' 'Snakes, re-proposed on day 2, month 9 in Logs: Wherefore art thou, Azaylia?). That wasn't the only personal connection K'zin was strengthening though. He started to patch things up with N'ky (Logs: Not Mad). Some might have noticed extra smiles and a lot of companionable silences between he and Telavi (since the events of the baths, mid-month 8). He started to subtly steal moments with her before getting a weyr (Logs: No Grabbing) and more after.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | He was quick to claim the first weyr that came along, but many have agreed that it, even with its unusual artistry, suits he and Rasavyth (Logs: Picky, Picky, Picky). The days that followed were busy. Alida and he were in and out of each others weyrs in the first days, deepening their friendship (Logs: A Diverse Discussion and Logs: Boundaries of Friendship). He finally went on his gratuitously sweet and romantic date with Azaylia (Logs: A Date To Remember) which prompted him to seek out K'del's fatherly advice (Logs: The Talk). Surprisingly (or perhaps not), when it came time to put K'del's advice into action, it was on the heels of receiving a pair of belated turnday presents, including his very own silver thread and it was Telavi who was the beneficiary (Logs: Belated Boons and Logs: At Least Solith is Spared).
| |
| − |
| |
| − | His other friendships saw highs and lows, too. K'zin and N'ky improved things (Logs: Moonlit Reconciliation) and then they got worse again (Logs: Fixed yet broken), though at lest this time, the pair weren't avoiding each other or outwardly hostile, just very businesslike and a little uneasy. K'zin and C'wlin made casual headway towards establishing some kind of non-strictly-work-based friendship (Logs: The Discourse of Dragons and their Men). Not all things can be so easy, however. Things between K'zin and Sabella are still not the best (Logs: No Rainbows or Unicorns), but K'zin's trying to act normal.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | Through it all, he's had to set aside some of his extracurriculars (lessons with the healers, paperwork lessons with Azaylia, extra Smithly projects), to focus on getting caught up to the other Silver Threaders. It has him pulling long days, and his overall performance has lagged a little. He's still doing well, it's just not as exemplary as before because he has more things on his plate. When quantity increases, quality suffers a small bit.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | === Month 7 ===
| |
| − | K'zin has been busy! He's been doing well with duties this month, although a hair less gung-ho about everything (because he simply doesn't have the energy to spread around). He’s still friendly, to most. Some might notice that K'zin is particularly civil and professional with his interactions with E'sren and that whereas in past months he’s been over-eager in his interactions with Sabella, now he's just acting the normal kind of friendly (if busy).
| |
| − |
| |
| − | K'zin didn't really get into the competitions set up, because it seems he's simply not a competitive person. He did his best, of course, but never had the competitive spirit some might have hoped for out of a bronzer. Rasavyth was an awesome cheerleader for the events, though seemingly never too disappointed with losses. He was seen doing some extra physical training with a couple of Cirrus members a handful of times. When asked, he would explain it's because they asked, and in the end, shouldn't they all win at life? They're all 'Reaches riders after all. All for one and all that.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | His extracurricular activities have dropped down to only two. He still vanishes at lunchtime a couple times a seven and some (notably especially neighbor C'wlin) might notice that K'zin seems to get at least two or three (female, for the very observant) visitors a seven, often fairly late in the evening and some don’t stay for long. Dragons in a variety of colors seem to bring them, sometime their own, and sometimes just whichever dragon is on elevator duty. Some gossip from those on elevator duty tells that some of the visitors (especially the giggly, nervous sorts don’t have an invitation, but that they never seem to be turned away, though some do find him already asleep in various places in the weyr and ask to be taken back down to the bowl.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | === Month 8 ===
| |
| − | Who knew one could be busier? K'zin didn't. For the first seven, its rough going as Sh'mel and K'zin try to find their rhythm. Maybe it was intentional the weyrlingmasters' part to choose a Cirrus greenrider who wasn't local born. What's more is that Sh'mel, who'd been a launderer at Telgar Hold before getting picked up not long before the eggs shelled, doesn't exactly seem to have leadership written all over him (or really on any of him). He's competent as a weyrling, of course, and was doing well in Cirrus, but is overwhelmed by having to lead a different wing. It doesn't help that leadership doesn't come naturally to the soft-spoken nineteen turn old. The roughness in the rhythm comes from Sh'mel not knowing how to approach leadership, not knowing K'zin or the wing, and K'zin waiting for Sh'mel to take the lead. Once Sh'mel sorts out (with self-resentment for it) that he needs K'zin, and makes stupid mistakes sometimes when he tries to stand on his own two feet, things become smoother. Well, a bit smoother.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | By the middle of the first seven a few things have become clear: K'zin is wingsecond, which means he's fulfilling his role in making Sh'mel's job easier and supporting him, he and Rasavyth share the goals of safety, overall wing success, and providing Sh'mel with whatever support he needs to be successful. K'zin had previously been seen fraternizing with Cirrus, though not with Sh'mel in particular, and his full support to the greenrider seems to fall right in line with his cooperative, non-competitive agenda. Rasavyth, too, is very helpful to Tayabeth (and Sh'mel by extension). She's not a natural leader either, though more attentive than some greens. If Rasavyth is offering her advice, it's not seen overtly. K'zin is also the one sent after slackers who don't get up on time, as he's more familiar with the weyrlings in the wing. He's not mean about it, or mad, just very no-nonsense and professional. By the end of the first seven, the leaders will find their balance and they'll be doing their bests to help the others find it, too.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | As for the firestone competition at the end of the month? K'zin is all about beat your own best, help everyone, and safety first. K'zin more than Sh'mel (who seems a touch introverted) makes himself available to any weyrlings struggling with anything. If it's not something he's good at, he'll still try, and try to find you another weyrling that does excel at whatever it is, and practice with you.
| |
| − |
| |
| − | Extra exercises he frequently did with Azaylia and Alida or set aside. (This does have the effect of him being a liiiiiittle excited about the physical training done with the wing. So, expect that to be demanding unless it's pointed out to him that someone is having trouble with the rigorous expectations.) Contrary to previous months, he seems to have ceased all his personal extracurricular. There's only two things in his life this month: Flurry Wing and Silver Threads. Exceptions are certainly made for friends (no abandonment!) seeking to steal a few minutes with him. Though an occasional visitor might be seen coming to his ledge, there's been quiet instructions passed around those on elevator duty not to bring people to his weyr, and those that are anyway are met, spoken with on the ledge in hushed tones, and sent back down to the bowl - some looking none-too-pleased with the previously very friendly bronzer!

| − | | + | |
| − | Super-NPCs: The tertiary characters are everyone else. Those faceless, nameless drudges, caverns workers, the crowd in the living cavern, etc. The tertiary characters are used mainly to create atmosphere, to create particular dynamics (example: crowded LC created the opportunity for K'zin and Alida to have a meal with Aishani, something the characters might not have chosen if there were plenty of tables and chairs Logs: Southern Plots and More). Tertiary characters can at any time become secondary characters, and secondary characters can become primary characters, played as PC or as long-term NPC with their own story arc.

Broad of shoulder, and strong of jaw, this young man of about 17 turns old still has traces of baby fat clinging to his otherwise muscular form. He stands about five foot, eleven inches tall and besides his rather remarkable bone structure, he's just another face in a crowd. Dusky tan skin covers his frame, topped by straight, dark chestnut locks. Though a few shorter locks flop haphazardly from the top of his broad brow, most of his hair is contained by a tan thong as it hangs down his back to reach the bottoms of his shoulder blades. Arched brows peak over evenly-set warm brown eyes. His nose is proportionate, though slightly aquiline. Thin but shapely pale pink lips almost always seem to wear the ghost of a smile, and a slight crinkle in his cheeks suggest hidden dimples.
Clearly dressed more for function than fashion, K'zin has donned a pair of khaki hide pants that look to be the kind lined with something more forgiving to bare skin. A pair of thick, worn, fur-lined brown wher-hide boots are on his feet. Warmth seems to be the aim of his torso attire, too. At least three layers can clearly be seen, starting with a grungy ecru undershirt peeking out from the opening in his grey shirt and topped with a brown vest. When outdoors, a fur-lined overcoat and red knit scarf, hat, and mittens is part of his standard attire.

Waki (wah-KEY) is the class clown. Not a total goof-ball, but definitely one with a spirit of high-energy frivolity or playfulness and a dry and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor. Though far from anti-social, in his turns at High Reaches, he's spent far more time with the blacksmithing forge and bellows than the people living at the Weyr. Up to this point, he's been just another face in the crowd - another cog in the great wheel that makes the Weyr go 'round.
