Rooted Egg

The small egg might as well be a nest of tunnelsnakes captured in glass, the way its wormy stripes writhe thicker and thinner about each other, except these are pale as creatures that have never seen light and are just as eyeless. A darker, loamy brown separates them, and perhaps protects them, for they also appear to have no proper hide; several fine broken-off lines appear to emerge from the surface of each, is all, like the last white hairs combed across a man's balding pate.

From behind slivered cracks across a loam-colored shell, loam wrests free as first one and then a second limb pushes free from the Rooted Egg's tunnelsnake confining stripes. But with only two holes and two legs visible, it's difficult yet to catch a glimpse of the trapped dragonet. Then the sand-shaking writhing continues, pitching the egg back and forth until those two ivory-taloned feet plant more firmly into the ground and a lithe green rights herself. That's right, a lithe, lovely and earthen green who, with the strength of her short and strong wings has shattered the rest of her shell and made an appearance.

Effervescence of Sun and Earth Green Hatchling

Loam rises from dainty paws to blend with the sun-dappled, earthy green that dances along this dragon's lissome frame. Made for prancing, from the slender curvature of her lengthy neck down her sleek, moss-tipped neckridges, to each articulate turn of her slim tail, buoyant grace sketches across her young and untried muscles. Her wings are short and strong, meant for agile turns and just a little more endurance than speed, with gold-green sunlight seeming to pool where her wingsails narrow into her spars. Tinged darker along her trailing edges, her sails, when spread, appear feathered in their vein patterning and graceful in their short, fluttering train. Large eyes are set atop a slim muzzle, guileless in their luminosity and unable to mask any of her frank thoughts. Indeed, for this green, her rainbowed eyes are the windows into her sweet-natured soul.

Temperament

Chielyth rides that fine line between a feminine dragon and a complete tomboy. She'll start out as 'just one of the guys', but is most definitely a girl. She'll be a constant tagalong, less comrade and more their little sister, attempting to keep up with the guys - whether they want her to or not. She's a persistent little thing too: infectiously cheerful, buoyantly innocent, sweetly good-natured. She's that girl next door - y'know the one. The one all the neighborhood boys fall for, not because she's that dream girl, but because she's so comfortable to be around; an innocent to protect, with her wholesome, unstudied grace.

Though she's bright enough when it comes to lessons, she's more prone to rely on her intuition in making judgments: a kind soul, she'll be the first to pick up on it when something's wrong or someone else is unhappy, even if she doesn't always know just yet how to fix it. Of course, sometimes her tendency to feel more than think may backfire, especially when she's young. You may just find that the chatty, over-curious Chielyth has a child's knack for secrets, prone to innocently blurting out things that should be left unsaid before she realizes better. As soon as you help her understand, though, she's contrite and will do whatever it takes to set things right between the injured parties. Persisting from birth well into adulthood, you'll also find distraction aplenty (particularly as a weyrling) in Chielyth's nocturnal tendencies. Though she won't mean to, somehow she might spend days spending the entirety of the usual waking hours asleep, only to rouse herself with tired, and rather adorable, draconic yawns after supper. As a student, when she's able and awake for classes, her curiosity will lead her in directions the weyrlingmasters might not have always intended. For instance, rather than leaving it to just you to learn dragon anatomy, she might decide to direct the other dragonets in the class who would but try, to lift their own wings up and stare intently at their own spars before declaring, with utmost certainty that Elaruth most definitely has thicktail. In her wing. Along the sail. It's usually quite easy to tell when she's teasing, for a twinkle in her thoughts gives her away.

With time, Chielyth will grow into a more quietly confident dragon, learning the lessons of youth well, but not allowing her youthful love of life to fade. Never arrogant, she is instead self-assured in your and her place in this world. There are no doubts, and in that self-confidence, her intuition will grow. She will be both patient and lively, excellent at gauging your moods: bolstering with kind encouragement when needed or fending off the tempests of your emotions with just the right thought. She'll be a fount of sweet-natured wisdom, the cushion for you to fall back on and just be. And in spite of a serenity that matures with age, she'll also understand that there will be a time and place for your fists, where soothing your feelings would be more detrimental to you than releasing them. Those times, you'll find subtle support, though she's careful to hold back from outright condoning of whatever means you might need to express yourself in the low melody of her still thoughts. Should she ever get disappointed, it'll be a hard face to come to terms with, and yet, for all her sweet innocence, there's also unconditional forgiveness. There are some things you may never tell her, and she may never tell you, in so many words. She doesn't have to hear you speak of your devotion to understand that you are so dearly and closely bonded. Likewise, she'll never seem to find any need to shower you in words of love, even amidst all of her other fine-tuned encouragements. At the same time, one aspect of her psyche that you may never see clearly is why it works that you are her rock and she is yours: namely, because so much of the core of who you are allows her to be steadier than she might be paired with anyone else. In turn, she is able to be your rock because of her understanding of /you/ and how your impetuous emotions sometimes get the best of you. In essence, it works because of who you both are; any other pairing in the world might have drawn out more flightier, fanciful instincts in her.

Lacking a jealous or clingy bone in her body, she'll grow from the youthful notion that she can fulfill all of your needs and start seeking out human companionship for you. In her search, she may look for a human version of herself, and from her own studies of people, try to give you tips on how to court this lady or that. Of course, her own love life is a different thing entirely. Though proddiness may make her flirtier, she'll always be more cute than seductive, making a game of her flights. And when it's over, and she's been caught, she won't care to settle down with any particular male. Even the most ardent lover will soon find himself politely, even apologetically, dissuaded from his attention. Even as an adult, she's 'just one of the boys, nothing special.' But beyond that, it's because the only man for her, after all, is you. You're her steadfast protector and the one she'll always turn to when she, in turn, needs support. She's loyal to a fault, your Chielyth, and it goes without saying that she will always be there when you need her, lurking and waiting, and even when you think you don't.

How does she know just how to look upon you, head cocked back so those rainbow-faceted eyes look mournful when you disappoint? Or with just a shift of her slender, girlish neck beam down with what you can only imagine is a dragon's gentle smile - it's hard to tell, their maws being quiet large comparatively. How can such a small creature (for dragonkind) be filled with so much unquestioning loyalty to you, her Weyr, her wing, her friends? How does that warm burst of sunlight in your mind sooth so instantly while the swirls of roses and lavenders culminate into her (sometimes adorable) version of anger? It's simple. Because she belongs to you.

Public Impression Message

Peeking out from behind a still unhatched egg, the Effervescence of Sun and Earth Green seems to have found what she's looking for but is waiting for him, the one she has her eye on to figure it out too. If a dragon could smile, she would have the winning grin of a small child playing hide-and-seek, daring the one who is It to come find her, on her face, so do her eyes sparkle and her tail twitch with the fun of this game. Finally she can't take it anymore and bounds forward eagerly in 'here-I-am' fashion and pushes her head lovingly into a tall, scruffy-looking young man's midsection. The lift of her bright blue-green eyes to his hazel seals their Impression.

Private Impression Message

Silence falls around you as if the Sands never existed and you never walked out onto their heated expanse. The cooling wash of sun-dappled, spring-scented earth fills your nostrils and the soothingly soft rustling sound of the wind through leaves high up in a tree tickles your ears to anchor and steady you where you stand. Sweet, low notes play against this sensory backdrop, thrummed high in the throat and echoing to you as a call to come find the source of that sound. « Can't you find me? Won't you find me? » The voice takes shape in your mind, winningly playful. Won't you play this game with her? Won't you come to her and be everything she's ever dreamed of? She makes it easy for you though, suddenly impatient and comes to you, her head pushing into your stomach affectionately. She's right there, waiting for you to wrap your arms around her and bring her as close as she's just brought your mind: Chielyth. Her name sings in your veins, known without being spoken, though she does give it to you as eyes meet eyes. « I am your Chielyth and you are my Kai. » Well, B'kaiv, but it's easy to forgive her for using your nickname. It's /her/ endearment after all.

Mindvoice

Chielyth's expressive voice finds its roots in the natural world, spanning two senses especially: scents and sounds, though she's also perfectly capable of sharing visuals with you. Especially as a weyrling, her imagery will take on the bright, sunny quality of childhood memories or drawings done in crayon by a childish hand, the lines unsophisticated, but true to the essence of what she sees or has seen. It's something she'll need to hone, with your help as she grows up in order to be ready for Between, so that her visualizations are more accurate to the real world, rather than the sun-drenched ideal she has in the back of her mind. When she speaks to you, it's in a light soprano that can dip into the alto range, carrying with it the thrummed notes of a sweet bird's song, her enunciation usually clear, though sometimes if she's excited her words can run together and you may need to have her slow down and repeat to get her thoughts across clearly. She likes to share a sense of a moment, a place with you and she is most naturally drawn to spring as a season with its wet earth and contrasts of light and shade, coolness and warmth as winter creeps away and the world comes back to life. You may find that during that time of the turn, she's often sharing what she finds with you, from the first sprigs of green shooting up from muddy earth, to the buds on the trees. Regardless of the season, her sendings tend to be touched with the scent of turned earth and growing things and the sounds and feel of a pleasant, cool breeze carrying the warmth of spring sunshine to you.

Dragon Inspirations

Your Chielyth was inspired by the nightingale in the basics of her personality and mindvoice, calling to reference the Hans Christian Andersen story about the Chinese emperor and the nightingale's loyalty. The other frameworks of her personality stem from what we thought would be interesting for Balkaiv and fit him well in terms of a female personality in his head: the quintessential girl next door that you've known since birth. That girl everyone falls a little in love with due to her good-nature, her frank, pretty looks, her gentle sweetness, her stalwart convictions (even if they might be naive), her laughing nature, and just the general peace she exudes in her love of life. She's the girl who will return to you after every failed love story or broken friendship and it just becomes an unspoken truth: that you two are meant for each other. But it's never said out loud. Not until the very end of that love story. You just know.

Egg Inspiration: Focusing closely on just one part of a tree led to remembering the look of a root ball when a plant has just been removed from its container, and from there came hair.
