Storerooms, High Reaches Weyr
Massive in scale, the Weyr's main storage passage connects to the kitchen on one end and the outbound tunnel on the other. Large enough to admit a wagon laden with goods, the tunnel easily permits the unloading and organization of supplies into the various storerooms.
Branching off from this corridor are multiple caverns, the nearer two being 'open' stores from which residents can readily help themselves, while the deeper stores are kept locked up tight with a posted sign and inventory hung on a hook outside of each. An alcove next to the public stores serves as a catch-all area for reshelving items whose destination is uncertain; two sets of stone shelving and several bins hold these items neatly until a stores assistant has a moment to deal with them.
Though the storage caverns vary in size, shape, and the smoothness of their walls, all belong to the same system: whitewashed walls, swept floors, and most importantly, neatly labeled and inventoried shelves providing ample space to stow all the supplies a busy Weyr needs. Though there's no direct internal lighting, a glowbasket may be brought in from the niche outside each cavern, the better to ward off pests and the inky dark of deep caves.

A warm summer evening sees a much greater portion of the Weyr's population out of doors to enjoy what light is left in the evening, and indeed, one lone Aukiri hardly makes up the majority of the Weyr's population. The freckled youth has a woven blanket, or coat, or cloak- a woven something - slung over his shoulder as he hunches over a box of old, threadbare, slightly discoloured linens. The aisle he's in is halfway to becoming a blanket fort, but still he's not found whatever it is for which he's searching.

Jo arrives with box in hand without no warning, meandering down the aisles without much stealth. Her heavy booted steps probably signal that someone's approaching, and one look at her would show that she was more studying the items on display than the fact that she wasn't alone. She does happen to peer into the box of old linens with dubious air before she breaks the silence. "Tasked with makin' a mess for the day?" she has to ask as she slowly passes him.

Aukiri doesn't look up when he first hears the bootfalls, but when they're getting close. He straightens up, a pinkish sheet, sized for a small bed by the look of what's visible, held up and arcing from his hand, down into the box. An easy smile takes his face, and he shrugs. "Have to earn my keep somehow. Cleaning up in the stores only works if there's a mess."

"Yer the one cleanin' this place?" Jo looks around before looking at him. "Or are ya just jerkin' my boot?" She eyes that easy smile before she softly snorts and turns to pick something up from one of the stacked crates to drop into her own box. While she continues to rummage, "What exactly are ya lookin' for, anyway?" she asks now, making the assumption that he was looking for something to do with linens.

"Not yet, obviously," sounds a little reproachful. He doesn't bother trying to shift any of the strewn blankets out of her way. He does, however, gather up the pink cloth he'd only just grabbed, hand over hand, until it's a bundle in his arms. "Liner," answers her last question. It's some awkward pulling and tugging, and the edge of his tongue tucks out the corner of his mouth, as he tries to unjumble and vaguely fold the sheet he's got. "What about you?"

The first gets a look from Jo, but she resumes her picking of various bathing tools and sweetsands into her box. When he answers her question for what he's looking for, and then returns it, "Ran out of bathin' stuff," comes prompt from her, her hands moving as she picks up a pouch of something and opens it up to sniff inside disdainfully. "Best time to get it while everyone else is out."

The pink sheet, now mostly sorted, is draped over one of Kiri's arms; the green and purple thing gets shrugged off his shoulder. "There's always just stuff there, when I go," he offers up. Half-draped over the linen box as that green and purple thing is, sleeves can be made out. The pink sheet gets tweaked a bit, thrown overtop, and the lad steps back for a look.

"Lucky you," Jo murmurs to that as she closes the pouch with a snap. She looks to remain quiet, but she does tack on mater-of-factly after a pause, "It's for outside this place. Mostly." She tosses the pouch back in where it came from and moves on towards the next crate. Dark eyes steal over to watch him with the linen box, the colors likely drawing her attention.

The inspection isn't long-lived, and Kiri is quick to give a satisfied nod and step forward to ball the whole affair up, pink and purple and green. "Outside like outside? Or do you just go to the little cotholds for their baths?" He gives her a strange little look, and then that smile flashes back. "The baths here are better from what I've seen." The ball is set on a lidded crate. The cleaning of the everywhere-linens starts next.

Balancing her box on top of one of the stacks of crates, "Normally it's after a long night of boozin' and gettin' my fists bloody," Jo is way too breezy in relating for it to be true, right? "When I'm too sick in the cups to risk goin' Between, but still got enough of my mind left to remember." Beat. "What have ya seen?" she asks now while she goes through another nearby box in search for something.

"You bathe after drinking?" It gets an odd little laugh out of the Aukiri. "Haven't been drunk lots, but when I am, all I want to do is just get naked and find a good bed to pass out in." He's shaking his head, with half an armful of various things that he doesn't seem to think of folding, when he aims that grinning face her way. "Baths are for morning." He's dumping the gathered things, then. "Igen. Some of the sea. Nabol, and north. And lots of beast ass when they were pulling the wagons."

"Ya make it sound like it's unheard of," Jo remarks to that very first in deadpan. "Baths are for nights, too. Much better at night. No one harassin' ya enough to want to shank them. Ya know." She gives that look as if he could know. She must be bullshitting him at this point, but it's hard to tell since she's keeping a straight face the entire time. Eyeing the grin, even, and that answer, "A lot of ground covered, for a kid," she observes drolly, looking him over from where she stands. "What brings ya to this slice of the land?"

Aukiri just nods along, happy enough, to the talk of shanking people in the baths. And keeps on gathering and dumping the linens that must not have been the right shade of pink. "Well it's not like I went all around those places. Just sort of," his hand makes a slicing motion, "through." He's finished his less-than-precise cleanup soon enough that he can say, "Maybe these," with a shrug and that grin again, just before picking up his pink and green and purple ball of cloth.

Jo regards him well enough now more than the box she's currently going through, his answer on the where getting him a nod. "Through," she echoes that, seeming to try the word on size. "Yer just passin' through." It's almost a question. "Yer either a drifter, a fugitive or a trader." Pause. "Nice colors." Droll, at best with that crooked grin.

"Guess I am," Kiri allows with a little shrug, the end of which settles the bundle to his belly, where he holds it almost like a much younger boy might hold some beloved toy. "Maybe," the smile, faded a moment, is back and bright, "I'm all three. Maybe," and he gives a more intense, if not exactly less jovial sort of look to her hands and their most recent searching grounds, "I ought to start stocking up on bathing stuff for outside this place."

"How can ya be all three?" Jo turns to stare at him hard. "If yer a fugitive, then ya can' really be a trader anymore, right? Fugitives would be worried about bein' caught, so they wouldn' have the time to pause every so often to sell their wares. Maybe yer a driftin' trader that likes to make messes of storerooms everywhere he goes." That last does have her snorting and turn back to her box as she says to that, "Yep, in that case. Maybe start bathin' at night, too, so ya won' shank anyone."

"Even fugitives have to make a living," Kiri answers her with an affable tilt of his head. The little pause and look at the woman will have to serve as farewell. Because, after he's taken a step back, the addition of, "Don't tell that to too many people, or baths'll start getting crowded again," has to be some sort of afterthought. And it comes without his properly looking to her as he makes his way out.

"Spoken from the mouths of the young," is all Jo says to that, and it's difficult to tell whether it's a comment of approval or disdain. Either way, there's amusement being sent to the young unnamed man as he heads out, the bluerider only sending in his wake for the last, "I'll be sure not to," before she's left alone to finish getting what she came in there for.
