Jo was supposed to deal with a lot of the negotiations with Kaitlyn and M'ron, and that made a lot of sense, yes. But with as much as Aishani was visiting her family now (to keep an eye on Ienavi and keep her informed), it seemed more convenient to follow up on some leads herself, especially given where they came from. It would be more difficult to explain a stranger's presence than a cousin's, despite the lack of distance and plausible deniability it left her. It wasn't as if she was going alone, she reasoned. She had once of her cousins with her, always; she'd had knives on her at all times for over a turn, and now with everything that had occurred at Southern Boll, she was also visibly armed with a belt knife -- when she wore something with a belt, at least. Otherwise, throwing knives and a punch dagger seemed good enough.

Iolene had been poisoned, true. If anyone was smart, they'd try the same with Shani. But Aishani knew people tended to be idiots, so kept her knives at the ready.

This night, she found herself in another shack that called itself a bar, dim and empty but for a bartender and both factions: herself and one of her more intimidating cousins; the man's with two thugs that seemed more big than bright. When they took their seats, one of the thugs immediately moved so she couldn't see him; swallowing her irritation and forcing one of her most charming smiles, Aishani asked the man, "Could you tell your man to get out of my blind spot, please?" It was polite, the first time. Given they were outnumbered, she felt it was fair. The man pursed his lips, but nodded at the thug, who stepped back. She could feel her cousin, off to the side, relax.

The conversation was pleasant enough after that, though guarded on both sides. She could understand why -- it could as likely be a setup as anything else, the Vijays working for 'the man' now that one of theirs was part of the establishment. Aishani felt she was on her way to convincing him otherwise when she realized, her spine stiffening, that she couldn't see that fucking guy again.

Looking across the table, calmly, "Can you tell him to get out of my fucking blind spot again?"

The man looked annoyed, it was hard to say with who. "Move," he said, staring over her shoulder. Once the guy stepped back -- Shani could tell he was smirking, even out of the corner of her eye -- the boss asked, "Can we get on with business now?"

They did. For a minute. Then the thug moved again. And Shani was out of her chair. It was mostly his surprise and her speed that gave his weight momentum as she grabbed him by the wrist, shoving him toward the table. Knife unsheathed, it came down in a flash, pinning his hand to wood with a 'thunk' and a howl of pain. The tabletop began to stain red.

She hadn't even thought about it, just been certain he was going to try something. To make sure they all reconsidered any further action, Aishani grabbed his head and slammed it off the table with all her might. As the thug slumped over it, she pulled the knife from his hand and let him slide to the ground.

Stepping slightly to the side so no blood dripped on her boots, Shani looked over to the man in charge. "Drop my cousin a line when you clean this up and get serious about doing business. I am not fucking around."

Iesaryth was visibly displeased when they left the bar, and though her cousin assumed it was due to the danger, Shani knew better. The gold was chastising her in her head; that wasn't necessary, that was imprudent and a loss of control, people will hear about it, and on and on. And Iesaryth was right, in some respects. Some would hear about it, there was no more hiding those particular skills from certain people. There would be no more underestimation.

But given her business and recent events both, Aishani figured it might not be the worst thing in the world to be considered armed and dangerous.
