In Turn 16, High Reaches Weyr made a deal with the Vijay family of traders that went south, due to their use of the Weyr to move stolen goods. In Turn 19, under new and unstable leadership, High Reaches faced a series of raids on their tithes that turned out to be the Vijays again. In an attempt to make a show of strength, their leader, Rajiv, was executed for the crime, while many of the men and women involved in criminal pursuits were sent to the mines at Crom.

Unbeknownst to them, in what was left of the Vijay caravan, a nine-turn-old Aishani, daughter of Rajiv and Zahra, swore revenge on the people that had killed her father and destroyed her home.

In Turn 28, 'Brieli', a seamstress from Crom, arrived at the Weyr, just months after her eighteenth turnday. She became good friends with Iolene, who became Weyrwoman after Tiriana's ouster, and Azaylia, who eventually Impressed to gold Hraedhyth. She was sent to Monaco Weyr in a group of High Reaches girls to stand for the gold egg there, to be transferred back to the northern Weyr post-impression at the end of Turn 28, and Impressed to gold Iesaryth.

After Iolene's death, and sharing leadership duties with Azaylia for several months, 'Brieli' left the Weyr, reportedly for her health, when it seemed like Hraedhyth was soon to rise. In Month 11, Turn 30, both queens rose at once, on opposite ends of the continent, and were caught by brownriders -- though it seemed 'Brieli' had tried her best to fix the flight for Fort's Vhaeryth, her lover's dragon. Despite initial uncertainty and the fact that Szadath had caught Hraedhyth, 'Brieli' named herself Acting Weyrwoman, and Taikrin Acting Weyrleader early in Turn 31. There had always been talk that she wasn't entirely trustworthy - would her grab for power, and her attempt to fix Iesaryth's flight finally convince people?

There was no need for convincing in the spring of Turn 31, at the hatching feast for the dual clutch, where 'Brieli' announced that she was not 'Brieli' at all, but Aishani Vijay, daughter of Rajiv, and that High Reaches was her home. If she'd wanted vengeance on the Weyr, that might have been the time to exact it, but she did little else than try to keep things running at a turbulent time. Whatever her reasons for stepping up, they're as mysterious as her reasons for stepping down by hanging her knot in the living cavern and refusing all duties, mere months before Hraedhyth rose to make Azaylia Senior Weyrwoman, ending the uncertainty of the past turns.

What comes next? Only Aishani -- and presumably, Iesaryth -- know.
