| Though it's not easy for Aishani to get away these days, she does have someone to watch the eggs, at least -- and though this perhaps necessitates telling some people more information than she'd like, there's no stop to business, even when there's eggs. And no matter how well Jo might be doing with her work with her contacts, the Vijay ones necessitate some introductions. So it is that Jo and Tacuseth are called out one night to a bar near the Minecraft, one without a name, or a sign at least, to meet a dressed-down Shani as she waits for their new friend. The goldrider already has a table and a bottle, but she's eyeing the glasses suspiciously. Without fan fare, here walks in Jo - black leathers, no shoulderknot in sight, a hand sitting lightly on the knife concealed at her side and a demeanor that would suggest she was glad to be here. She only pauses briefly on the threshold as if to get her bearings, then heads straight for Aishani's table with a meandering step like one that had no meetings here at all. She just happens to pause once she steps in front of Aishani's table, and she just happens to suddenly turn the chair found there around so that she could straddle it and drape her arms over its back. Looking around while doing so, "So what's good around here?" is her greeting, glancing at those glasses before nodding in their direction. Dryly, "Probably nothing." Aishani nods to the bottle before leaning forward over the table, resting elbows there as she holds onto her empty glass still. She offers Jo a faint smile though, nodding her way before, "Thank you for coming. I just wanted to make sure you'd met Ramoren, since we'd worked out terms both with my family and with us. I figured you might be dealing with more of the day to day." Giving the bluerider a once-over, she asks, "You look well. How have things been?" "Aww, there's good in every place, darlin'," Jo states, her smile growing as she reaches for the bottle. "What is it they're callin' this, at least?" She takes up the other glass and starts to pour anyway, listening to Aishani words on business with a single nod thrown in towards the end of it. "Sounds like a party," she says on the meet, the smile crooked. "It's not everyday ya get to meet another Vijay. When's he comin' in?" As to she herself, there's an easy shrug to that as the filled glass lifts to her nose for a sniff, then she holds it out to examine its color before she answers with, "When I play more in the shadows, I am better, yes. I'm better at keepin' my head down than not, and coverin' my own ass. You, darlin'," she adds now, briefly raising the glass in her direction, "I should be askin' how ya doin' yerself. Since that flight. Ya must be relieved? Knowin' the chaser over the fact that it's over, right?" Aishani looks skeptical, but tells Jo, "Rum. We'll see. It won't blind you at least." She's had experience, apparently. "Mmm. Ramoren's not a Vijay, but my cousin is. Leo. They're meant to be along soon, but I've found having dragons means we're early more often than not. And visible." That last is said regretfully, with a smirk. "I wish I could handle your end of things. Speaking of which, I might have something for you and Kait and M'ron... and anyone else you can convince to help out, if you have the time." Amused, she notes, "Escorting her Ladyship." As for the flight, she lifts her glass to tilt it in an 'eh' gesture before setting it down to fill it. "I like having N'rov around, and having it over. But some of the chasers are dicks after. Children." Dismissive. "Try black stinger ale," Jo states, amused by Aishani's answer. "They say yer sight blips out for an hour, at least." She now takes a taste, eyes narrowing slightly. "Leo," she echoes that name, seeming to taste it like the rum. "Is this Ramoren the one I'll be dealin' with directly, then?" she asks, taking another taste before setting the glass down. Moving on to the new proposition, "Ladyship," she echoes, invitation for more information before there's a chuckle given on the flight. "Is he adjustin' to Reaches life?" she asks now, stretching her back momentarily while keeping an idle gaze on those around them. "And please. Do tell." Dicks and children. To Jo, they've got the time. "The next time I want to be blind, I'll certainly look into it." Aishani's tone doesn't sound convinced though, as she takes a cautious sip. "Leo, yes. Old enough to know what he's doing, young enough to have stayed out of the mines. One of the few. And generally, directly with him, yes. If there's cause for a go-between, Ramoren will make introductions. It should be fairly straightforward. I managed to get us five percent for the first turn, to be renegotiated next one. There's enough going on to make that good for all involved." Allowing herself a grin, "Ienavi requires some conveyance and guard while she's out and about being seen. I thought it might be your thing. And he doesn't like the cold, but who does?" Shaking her head, "Just... it's as if they don't stop seeing you like that." "Do for the experience," Jo suggests on stinger ale properties, chuckling into her glass of rum. "Most of the shit at the poison bar won' kill ya." She then listen to the terms, seeming to find them satisfactory since she nods a few times and taps one of her boots on the floor. "If ya can trust him, and he's discrete," she says, "then we'll work with him. Tell me more about this...ahh, guarding the Lady Ienavi, though." Leaning back a bit, "How long are we lookin' for? Is this just for riders, or can it be someone without a dragon?" On N'rov, there's a small incline of her head on the question before she drawls out, "I do, but I'm not exactly normal." Beat. "Like that," she echoes, lips curling in amusement to how the weyrwoman says it. "Ya don' enjoy bein' desired? I heard ya knifed one of them." With an arch of brows, "I'll think about it." Aishani seems to think they're set on both scores, raising her glass Jo's way briefly before a drink. "Sounds like if all goes well, we'll have our first agreement lined up. We'll have cause to celebrate." Because eggs on the sands and her boyfriend in her weyr isn't quite enough for the goldrider to feel satisfied. As for Ienavi, "I'm not sure how long, but for short trips, at least. I'd have to ask her if she wants a more permanent guard, but it's possible for a non-rider to either do that, or come with you -- but when she travels, she needs dragonriders." She flashes the bluerider a grin for 'not normal', but has a shrug for the last. "I'm used to it, just not much aggression about it. And he's still mad about it, H'vier. But he grabbed me." So, she knifed him, clearly. Looking pleased on business looking up, "And if it don'," Jo adds in, "then we find ways that would give up cause to celebrate. "This is good, Shani. I reckon this will do us some good." She turns toward the proposition, seeming to be turning it over and over in her head since she doesn't speak again and right away. She's just lingering on her drink, brows slightly furrowing before her gaze cuts to Aishani's face. "I ain' exactly a guard for the lives of all others, especially for free," she notes idly. "But, since yer askin' and all," and it trails, the bluerider not needing to finish that statement. "H'vier," she echoes now before laughing and shaking her head on the next. "Fuck. That man stays in trouble, I swear. It's impressive. I reckon he thinks every weyrwoman in Pern is his to grab. Too bad he grabbed a Reachian one." That grin flashes and she's laughing again, downing the rest of her rum. With a little grimace for whatever passes for rum around these parts, "I think we'll be fine here. I only hope it all goes so well. I sincerely doubt that there will be that much need to drive a hard bargain or refuse, but..." Aishani lifts her hands regretfully. Some people at that way. As Jo considers, she waits, but will allow afterward, "I don't know that there'll be pay upfront. But having a Lady Holder indebted to you is not the end of the world. It's nice to be welcomed in a Hold, yes? And it's possible that it could... be beneficial to business but that'd need care. I'd be grateful for the help." Since the bluerider is being helpful. H'vier darkens her expression and she notes, "Every woman, probably. I'm not sure why he thinks he can act like that and not get stabbed." Jo does look towards the entrance now as she leans a little forward and asks, "They're on their way? And, I hope so. I ain' much diplomatic or good at drivin' hard bargains unless it involves somethin' that gets bloody, and I ain' lookin' for it to be that kinda night." The proposition, when Aishani does put it that way, gives the ex-con some pause as she considers it. A Lady Holder indebted... "Well now," she drawls on the pay, shaking her head, "there's not to say that I can' be generous, especially to my friends. To be welcomed places, well, that's currency, darlin'. It's not somethin' that I would squander, either." She raises her glass briefly to that, and then there's open laughter on the bronzerider in question before she tacks on, "Isn' that the motto of most bronzeriders, though? This could have been the first time he's gotten a stab wound for his advances, ya know." She's more amused by it, even. Glancing that way too, "Should be shortly. And no concerns about that tonight, at least. Later, if you need me... Please let me know." Aishani loves to drive a hard bargain, by her expression, the light in dark eyes. With a faint grin, "Do think of it that way. Perhaps when I speak to Ienavi, I'll introduce you. She might actually do well to have a friend like you, with relatives like Rone." A little shudder as she refills her glass and tells Jo, "You know, I think it might be? And I'm just not used to being grabbed. Or people being so... obvious." She'd go one about that last, but two men enter just about then; one young, tall and dark, favoring the goldrider, the other older and cagey-looking, obviously the client. Shani seems to draw her cousin's attention with little more than a nod, and the pair begin to approach. The frown gets a touch darker. "This Rone," Jo is deliberately idle in saying his name. "Sometime, maybe she'n ya can tell me more about him." There's a nod on future meetings, this seeming to please the bluerider when in the beginning she was more reluctant to guard the Lady. But of course, the frown fades into something disarming and casual from Jo once the men as here. During the dealing, she doesn't speak much, and her words are plain and simple. She lays the cards out on the table proverbially with no flowery language to go with it, so that by the time the deal is done, the men would more than likely know where the women are coming from and if this would be a good fit for them all. She gives Aishani a satisfactory grin and nod in her direction as the talk strays to bad booze, stating wryly, "Next time, gentleman, I'll bring some of the best that doesn' get served at bars. Consider it a future gift of our mutual partnership." |
