Tevrane

History
Unlike many of the ladies in the High Reaches area, Tevrane is very much 'what you see is what you get': now in her forties, she's plain-spoken and sensible, not afraid to get her hands dirty... or say what needs to be said.
The first of Ustelan's children to be born after his surprise ascension to Lord of Nabol, Tevrane grew up well aware of her place in the world. Still, she was a daughter and not a son, and with so many half-siblings older than her, she had no expectations towards being named heir. Besides, she had several full-blood brothers, far more likely to be chosen were their father to decide against the children of that previous, less auspicious marriage.
Intelligent, but not generally considered beautiful, Tevrane had no great expectations of being married into a major hold, and especially not to the son and heir of one; still, she found herself a little disappointed to be sent all the way across the continent to Fork Hold, in the Benden area, to wed Alandar, second son. It was a short-lived union: marriage at sixteen, a daughter born at nineteen, a widow at twenty-three. After that, there wasn't much to keep her at Fork, and so she and Cortnie returned to Nabol.
Unlike many of her half-siblings, Tevrane lived a relatively quiet life, now. She was not especially maternal, but enjoyed her daughter on an intellectual level. Not a terribly warm woman, she nonetheless felt her own quiet grief when her brother, Wildar, died of a long illness, only to be followed a mere turn later by her mother, Frieja. She was not terribly restrained in her disapproval over her father's quick remarriage to Ienavi, a girl a full ten turns younger than she was.
Indeed, in the turns that followed Tevrane argued a great deal with her father, becoming one of the loudest voices telling him to name an heir. She long suspected that Cortnie's marriage to a cousin of Aughan of Crom was deliberately set up in the hopes that she would leave Nabol to join the couple; despite being unhappy at the prospect of losing the girl, to whom she had become surprisingly close, she elected not to leave. Nabol, for all the problems and frustrations, was home.
And then Ustelan died, finally, and Tevrane was more relieved than ever to still be at Nabol: the place descended into chaos, pure and simple. She had no liking for Ienavi and her pretensions, but Rone's efforts seemed perfectly calculated to ruin everything: was there no one sensible left? Still, she would never have thought to put herself forward were it not for Edeline of Tillek, who presented it as a fully formed plan, ready for execution.
Quietly, Tevrane called her daughter, her son-in-law, and her grandson home to Nabol. Quietly, she met with Lords and Ladies, discussing the future.
And quietly, when the Conclave announced their decision, she stepped forward to claim her hold, immediately naming her five-turn-old grandson as her heir.
