| It hurt, a little, when Azaylia didn't invite him to be Acting Weyrleader. He tried to keep that to himself, because it felt stupid, and... egotistical, and just generally awful. But of course it hurt. It didn't matter that they hadn't really spoken in months; that their last conversation had been an argument, a complete misunderstanding. He'd been so frustrated with her: how dare she force the wings like that, how dare she be angry at him for letting his dragon chase another. None of that mattered, in the end, because it still hurt that after everything, she didn't want him. Even if he wasn't sure if he really did want the big knot back, permanently. He'd been a good Weyrleader. Maybe not a great one, sure, but a good one. It increasingly felt like no one believed that now, though. Like it had been forgotten. Like every good thing he'd ever done had been blotted out by his mistakes. It hurt. It hurt that K'zin couldn't understand his perspective. It hurt to see his Weyr in turmoil. It hurt to know that people he'd respected for turns no longer respected him. Being part of High Reaches, caring for High Reaches... that hurt a lot, right now. He hid that hurt. He ignored the jibes from other riders, riders who wanted to rub his face in the fact that no one seemed to want a former Weyrleader. He stepped up, too. F'manis encouraged him to start coming to the Wingleader meetings... so he did. He didn't try and take charge, didn't bluster and order like B'ren, but he was there. He offered ideas. He tried to keep the peace. He held his head up high. He didn't need to be Weyrleader to care for his Weyr, to help it. That was one thing he'd never stop doing. |

So interesting to see K'del reacting to this. Instead of decidedly deciding, and being outwardly quite vocal about, just refusing to do any work at all anymore because who cares about the Weyr just because he didn't get his way, he's actually just... doing his job.
