Description

Here stands a man of height - six feet and a couple inches - with disproportionately long legs and a slim torso. His skin is as pale as milk, lending to the impression that he doesn't often see the outside, whether that be profession or preference. He bears a pair of green eyes, both deep and wide set, in an angular face with naturally hollowed out cheeks. Dark shadows constantly ring his under eyes, standing out like bruises against his whitish pallor. His nose is moderately wide with a squared tip, at odds with the plump, curvy lines of his red lips. Atop his head, cut in a classic style, his hair is dark blonde and thick, smoothed away from his face with the help of oil.

A simple blue tunic clothes his torso, with long sleeves that he folds back to his elbows, and a pair of brown trousers hugs his lean legs. He wears a brown leather belt low on his waist, secured over his tunic to keep the fabric from moving unnecessarily. On his feet, he has worn brown boots with metal points, and on his shoulder, the intricate knot of a Journeyman Healer.

WYSK

  • Formerly from around Lemos Hold, and the son of Master Smith Selvoron and Journeyman Harper Amerlie.
  • Healer that's been posted to both Ista Hold and High Reaches Weyr.
  • He's the resident go-to midwife, doing most of the pre-natal visits and attending a large portions of the Weyr births.

History

Having crafters for parents had its ups and downs. On the one hand, your education was thorough and a lot of doors were open to you. On the other, it's not like you could get away with mediocre. Miska bore the brunt of his parents' attentions, specifically those of his father. His mother was largely absent - both emotionally and physically - so that meant Selvoron saw to the upbringing of their only son. It may have been that she took her craft that seriously, or perhaps simply she missed the life she led before marriage and children. Whatever the case, Amerlie often had excuses for her absences, from gathers to meetings, rehearsals and everything in between. They learned to live without her presence, just father and son.

Early on the bar was set high. Selvoron was a Master of the Smith craft and Amerlie was a Journeyman Harper with a golden voice. They expected their only child to excel in either craft, though from the many traits of his mother's he possessed - fair coloring, soft demeanor, lilting voice - they fully believed he would end up another talented Harper. It appeared that way for many, many turns, until the young Miska started to grow enamored with physiology and the teachings of the local Healer. Some contention remained between his father and him, but ultimately, the choice was his to choose which craft he wanted to apprentice in.

Recommendations came easily enough, and at the age of twelve, Miska moved into Harper Hall to start his apprenticeship. Assimilating into the Hall wasn't too hard - they didn't live too far from the Smith Hall as it was, on the outskirts of Lemos - and the course load was similar to what his parents entrusted with him. Turns passed, studies got harder, but he persevered and eventually, his determination paid off. At eighteen, he was promoted to senior apprentice, showing some remarkable skill with the basics, but they were concerned about his lack of specialty at the time. He was posted, very shortly, to Ista Hold to study what they thought would be a lovely niche for him - herbology. The plan somewhat backfired, for while he was astute with herbs and tisanes, he was also trained under a healer specialized in obstetrics.

Despite the change in plans, Healer Hall was pleased, and allowed him to come back to the Hall to finish his proper training in the obstetrics specialty. It took him three more turns to walk the tables, to become a Journeyman. Overall, he was proud and so were his parents, though some throughout the healer community laughed - a male midwife? How modern.

They kept him on at Healer Hall for a few turns more, before deciding he needed more real world experience. High Reaches Weyr was the place they decided to post him, for better or worse, because what better a place to gain experience delivering babies than at a Weyr?
