Telavi
Contents
Description
Long-bodied and slender, trim without being tiny, Telavi is a lithe girl in her late teens or early twenties. Her face is long, too: long and narrow, with deep dimples when she smiles, a wide, full-lipped mouth, and a nose that could be handsomely masculine in a different context. She has blue-green eyes, set beneath expressive brows that are only slightly darker than the dark blonde of her waist-length hair.
Tela's smartly tailored riding leathers are piped in the colors of the usually-embroidered blouses she likes to wear, coral and slate blue with hints of cream and plum that complement her fair, tanned skin and add vibrancy to the neutral brown wherhide. Her knot and badge are secured unobtrusively into place, and her hair's usually braided to avoid flight-tangling, allowing a glimpse of the tiny faceted studs in her ears.
WYSK
- Telavi was Searched by Kait(lin) and Jormunth the day before the hatching, or the day of the hatching, depending on how you count.
- Winds of Change green Solith isn't Telavi's other half, but she might be her better half.
- Telavi's weyrbred, out of Benden. Yes, that may mean what you think it means: she really is a Benden fan. Go Benden!
- It may also mean what you think it means: she'll flirt with a rock if it's cute or she's bored.
- Telavi and Solith rode for Boreal. Those who pay attention to such things may remember they were in the silver thread group as weyrlings, but that's over now.
- After Z'ian's 'accident,' Telavi became an assistant weyrlingmaster under Quinlys, working with I'zech and J'vain.
- Then Savannah took her, and she liked it. Nita was there too.
- Then Savannah left. (Just like a wing.)
- Then Savannah came back and just like that, they were back together again... at least until Quinlys came looking around again.
- If you work in stores: Tela can still be found there at times, if only rarely now that rationing began in early turn 32. The former seamstress is a picky, picky, picky girl, but she puts things away and there haven't been any mysterious disappearances during her visits. (Are you cleaning out your weyr? Tela's still looking for a couple more couches, though they have to be just right.)
- If you hang out in the Snowasis: Tela showed up about once a seven, usually for a simple glass of beer or white wine, and usually only long enough to hook her catch of the day. Since joining Boreal, she visited more often in the company of her wingmates as well as former clutchmates, and was unobtrusive about making a cheap drink last. Around the end of Turn 32, what used to be a pattern varied drastically until around the time of the hatching in Turn 33; since then, she's mostly engaged in fly-bys and occasional longer visits, including with her former wing... but then, the weyrlings are still young enough to require irregular hours (and rumor has it that her co-workers have their own stash).
- If you were a wingleader when she was a weyrling: Telavi attended almost all of the meetings instead of the required one a sevenday. She stayed quiet, presentable, and attentive in a way that seemed quite natural, and at times she sought out an individual wingleader afterward for a quiet, thought-out question. Her notes for acting weyrleaders Taikrin and Sisha had become clear, concise and relatively unbiased, though if anything, she put a positive spin on interpersonal dynamics. She may have been sucking up, but at least it's subtle! It looked for a while there as though she would be tapped into Snowdrift, but reportedly, Z'ian pulled strings. Some might also know that she reports at intervals to Lady Tillek at the behest of the weyrwomen.
- If you were a weyrling with her: if you got on well before graduation... or maybe even if you didn't... she's probably happy to catch up with you now. She also often shows up to D'kan's poker nights, though she's still learning the game.
- If you were in Boreal: Telavi appeared to be enjoying Boreal, diminishing any rumors that it wasn't a wing she wanted. She made a habit of listening to more experienced riders and not getting snotty about her former silver thread status, though her love of
questionsanalysis did come out sometimes, along with easy confidence and a definite sense of humor that sometimes verges on smartassery. She worked hard, dressed as girly as she could efficiently get away with, and liked to have a good time with the wing; it's just that one day a month that she wasn't good for much. Solith was more of a lightweight, but a cheerful lightweight. - If you were a weyrling for her first class: Telavi's all about being helpful and cheerful and finding solutions. She is, however, not the most patient person on the planet, at all. She also gives haircuts quite gladly, despite being one of a couple girls who (or so rumor may have it) talked their way out of it in her class. Tela seems to enjoy her boss's company (at least when she's not caught being impatient...), is fine with J'vain, and I'zech... well, he's I'zech. As for Solith, she's generally happy to play (and/or to kill things), as long as nobody's too rough, more fearless than one might expect from her seeming fragility.
- If you're in Savannah: You're awesome, end of story.
History
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Telavi, with quite a few nicknames depending upon who you were and what you wanted with her. She worked as a seamstress at Benden Weyr, being the niece of G'then, rider of blue Toraveth. Searched to High Reaches at nineteen, she Impressed Winds of Change green Solith the following day (or the same day, depending on who's counting), was assigned to the silver thread group, and was eventually tapped into Boreal by wingleader Z'ian. Along the way she made friends, made not-so-friends, encountered pirates, and hasn't lost her touch with a needle.
Relationships
- Meara and Quinlys were her WLMs, I'zech her favorite (maybe?) AWLM.
- Alida, C'wlin, D'kan, E'sren, K'zin, N'hax, N'ky, and Sabella are people she Impressed with. There's always more to it, though, isn't there? In several cases, a lot more.
- Others include N'gan and Quielle, who used to be cute study partners but now N'gan can crawl up Faranth's backside and stay there, and J'tor whose Adrovanth Solith likes but as for J'tor himself, whatever. Sh'mel is a bit of a damp washcloth.
- Jo dates back to Tela's former life, but now there's Solith, who plays around with Tacuseth... and looks up to H'kon's Arekoth.
- Speaking of former life: G'then is her uncle, Th'vin his weyrmate, Sasha her ex... but almost no one at HRW knows any of that.
- Tela's acquainted with Aishani and K'del as well as Azaylia by now, though in very different ways. Taikrin was impressive, Sisha effective but less exciting.
- Madilla might be perfect, her apprentice Jinja is fun, and
Treinanthe other one is a spoil-sport. - Tayte is a vintner 'chum,' U'by is.. U'by?
- Lady Edeline is so uninformative.
- Babetta is very informative... when she's around, sigh.
- Quinlys' Olveraeth flew Solith the first time; H'vier's Reisoth the second (sorry, Tayte!).
- Boreal was her wing, Z'ian her wingleader, and old grumpy Oisa and not-so-old not-so-grumpy F'ren were her wingseconds before Oisa took over in Z'ian's absence. Wingmates included clutchmates C'wlin, E'sren and N'hax.
- She doesn't know R'hin's name. Make that, didn't... and now he's her wingleader.
- When Tela first took up working for Quinlys along with I'zech and J'vain, her junior class of weyrlings included A'rist, G'laer, Ghena, Klohi, L'sha, and Rh'mis.
- Lilabet (not Lily!) is sweet. And... she actually wants to be a greenrider...?!
Soundtrack
- Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al - Sabs and Tela, from Sabella, most of it.
A man walks down the street, it's a street in a strange world
He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound
If you'll be my bodyguard, I can be your long-lost pal
I can call you Betty, and Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al
- Paul Simon - Kodachrome - Solith, from Sabella again, most of it.
And though my lack of education hasn't hurt me none, I can read the writing on the wall
They give us the greens of summers, makes you think all the world's a sunny day
- Lindsey Stirling - Elements - Solith
- Lindsey Stirling - Transcendence - Telavi
- Aanysa and Jordan Jansen - cover of "Give Your Heart A Break" with Jordan passing as a butch girl.
There's just one life to live, and there's no time to wait
Don't wanna break your heart, wanna give your heart a break
- Ke$ha - "Die Young" - TeraBrite and (for Sabs) Wild West covers
Like it's the last night of our lives, we'll keep dancing till we die
Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young
- Monique Blanchet - cover of "Catch My Breath" - Telavi to Solith - for now, just this part
I've spent most of my life riding waves, playing acrobat, shadowboxing the other half
Catch my breath
No one can hold me back, I ain't got time for that
- Christina Grimmie - cover of "Stay" - Solith to Tela, most of it
Something in the way you move makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way, I want you to stay
It's not much of a life you're living, it's not just something you take-- it's given
Not strictly part of a soundtrack, this video of Telavi's PB shows a lot of the expressions she and Tela have in common. You can skip the bikini parts and just cut to 0:34 for geeking and 1:13 for weapons, with 0:10 on the side.

Secret Celebrity Double:
D&D Character:
I Am A: True Neutral Half-Elf Bard (2nd Level)
Alignment:
True Neutral A true neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. He doesn't feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Most true neutral characters exhibit a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character thinks of good as better than evil after all, he would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. Still, he's not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way. Some true neutral characters, on the other hand, commit themselves philosophically to neutrality. They see good, evil, law, and chaos as prejudices and dangerous extremes. They advocate the middle way of neutrality as the best, most balanced road in the long run. True neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you act naturally, without prejudice or compulsion. However, true neutral can be a dangerous alignment when it represents apathy, indifference, and a lack of conviction.
Race:
Half-Elves have the curiosity and ambition for their human parent and the refined senses and love of nature of their elven parent, although they are outsiders among both cultures. To humans, half-elves are paler, fairer and smoother-skinned than their human parents, but their actual skin tones and other details vary just as human features do. Half-elves tend to have green, elven eyes. They live to about 180.
Class:
Bards often serve as negotiators, messengers, scouts, and spies. They love to accompany heroes (and villains) to witness heroic (or villainous) deeds firsthand, since a bard who can tell a story from personal experience earns renown among his fellows. A bard casts arcane spells without any advance preparation, much like a sorcerer. Bards also share some specialized skills with rogues, and their knowledge of item lore is nearly unmatched. A high Charisma score allows a bard to cast high-level spells.
