Chaos erupted in the latest meeting of the Weyr's wingleaders. The meetings have been tense but business-like affairs since B'sil stepped down and Brieli and Azaylia tasked H'kon and Taikrin with 'looking after the wings'. It's been worse since Taikrin stepped up as lead of Glacier, but never outright hostile until today. Rumor spread quickly-- some said that the argument started when Taikrin made suggestions to Iceberg Wingleader D'nis in a manner more suited to a weyrleader than a fellow wingleader. Others claim it was D'nis making a derogatory comment about Glacier's latest drills that set it off.

Though it never came to blows, it was apparently a near thing. Afterwards, the council chambers were in disarray: spilled beer all over the floor, some broken crockery, and several overturned chairs. More concerning, perhaps, is that the leadership of the wings has begun to fracture along predictable lines. Mielline's Snowdrift and B'ren's Hailstorm now openly support Taikrin's leadership, while Sisha's Avalanche and D'nis's Iceberg support H'kon.

The prospective-Weyrleaders themselves have had very different reactions. Taikrin has been heard asking her wingriders in Glacier to subtly mention that the wing is recruiting for any like-minded riders in the wings supporting H'kon. She has also openly begun to consort with blue-riding Mielline and bronze-riding B'ren about the future of the Weyr.

In reaction, H'kon has done... very little differently. Those who've managed to corner the evasive brownrider have heard much the same line he's given since day one: that he wants to serve as a balance in the event of any untoward action from Taikrin. But if this doesn't get a rise out of him, what will? With discontented mutterings even from those wings who have declared in H'kon's favour, it's difficult to believe that the undecided riders will take him seriously for much longer.

Above all, one thing is clear: the fracture in the Weyr begun so many turns ago by Iolene's leadership and exacerbated by the dual goldflights has reached critical stages. How will the wingriders cope?
