| There is a glowing pride radiating from the heat of Eliyaveith's mind that usually blankets the Weyr, though for the moment even it has focused onto a smaller segment of her family; her, Liesanth, and the eggs that share the Sands with them. They haven't yet been rearranged, only buried, and for the moment the queen is too tired to do much more than watch them while curled up with her mate. It means, at least, that Lilah has gotten to escape the heat of the Sands, sequestering herself in the back rows of the galleries rather than the front, especially where the front rows have residents and dragonriders filtering in and out to make comments and bet on her dragon's eggs. Her bright hair is half damp with sweat, thrown up in a messy bun, and she only wears a loose, light tank against the heat as she pours over hides from Dice. If her own, not so distant hatching did not still ring so loud in Elaruth's mind, she might have tried to visit one of those higher ledges to greet her daughter and her clutch, yet, as things are, her presence has retreated back and back and back to a faint whisper shielded by a white wall of mist. She does not intrude. On anyone. Hattie is either representative or drawn by duty, her progress through the galleries slow and meandering, any questioning gazes ignored in favour of distant focus on Eliyaveith and Liesanth's clutch. Eventually, she lifts her attention from the Sands and looks upward to seek out Lilah, her pace slow and halting as she gradually makes her way up the steps. "She's done well." "She's-- Yes, the clutch is a good one," Lilah will agree to that greeting, though the goldrider moves to shift the things on the bench beside her to make room for her Weyrwoman. Among those hides and riding jacket, is a bound book that Hattie may still recognize, though with it shut closed, it is hard to tell if it has been written in yet or not. "Though I'm not looking forward to this." This is paired with a gesture to those front rows, to the sands themselves and the hardening clutch both. Hattie does not reject the offer of the seat, and in-fact sits down as soon as Lilah clears it, though her gaze flits across that book and back up to her junior, a moment's study made before she redirects her focus towards the first rows of seating and the people there. "You have to tolerate a certain amount of frivolous and petty chatter," she murmurs. "Only a certain amount. The rest... I suppose it'll depend whether Eliyaveith wishes you to frequently be with her and not simply present." Her dark eyes find her knees, then she glances at the hides Lilah is working on. "I can do those, if you like," she offers. Lilah shakes her head in dismissal of Hattie's offer without even thinking about it, though she explains after, "They're from Dice, not weyrwoman duties. Now that she's clutched, I need to find the time to go up--." But she cuts herself off with a thoughtful look of her own paired to the Weyrwoman, a hint of a question in the curve of her brow upwards. And softly, she admits to Hattie, "I figured it would look bad, rumor-wise. If I weren't here with her. You're always here with Elaruth, and other goldriders seem to do the same." The Weyrwoman barely takes a moment to consider before she replies, "I can do that, if you like," almost exactly as before, with precisely the same tone. Hattie doesn't seem to make much of Lilah's refusal, no insult or offense registered visibly on her features. "It's up to you what you can stand by way of rumour," she says quietly. "I'm always here because Elaruth wants me to be and I want to be with her. If it isn't the same for you... perhaps it doesn't have to be the same." She shrugs one shoulder. "Isyath used to leave her eggs, I'm sure you know." "And they got stolen," replies Lilah with a hint of wryness, though it is only turned into an inward thoughtfulness as her dark gaze slides to Eliyaveith and her eggs. "Maybe she will want me here. I have no idea. She's done nothing of what I'd expect." Her gaze lingers, for a moment, on that gold egg sitting almost tipped against one of the more brightly colored eggs, before she turns her attention back to the Weyrwoman. "No, you already have-- How is Elaruth?" "Yes, and so I can't imagine that your absence every now and then would create more negative rumour than that," Hattie says in a similar fashion, though her tone leans more towards plain dryness. She follows Lilah's gaze to the gold shell, but, perhaps having heard the gossip surrounding its nature, chooses not to comment on it. "It's her first clutch," she supplies instead. "She'll learn how she wants things." While she might have addressed the terminated statement, the question temporarily forces her to channel her effort into suppressing her reaction to an acceptable one. "Trying to forget," she murmurs a little tightly. "And you?" is where Lilah chooses to press the conversation, rather than lingering on the topic of the clutch on the sands or her presence there. There is some concern written, though, in the junior's expression for Hattie. Hattie just goes very still, to the extent that it seem that she's barely breathing, the control she exerts a physical effort that laces tension through her frame. It's effective in keeping her quiet until she can or wants to speak, her moments of silence spent staring at the far wall until her features reanimate enough to permit words, if not any single, discernible emotion. "Trying to forget," she repeats. Lilah tips her chin in acceptance of that answer, for all that her dark gaze lingers on the Weyrwoman for a long moment. She doesn't press the conversation further, falling silent instead. That silence lingers even as she gives Hattie a reprieve from the study, her gaze flicking back to the Sands as Eliyaveith manages to stir herself to nose at one of her eggs for some reason or another. It takes just as long for Hattie to manage to speak again in a manner that doesn't betray anything but a businesslike demeanour, and it can't be surprising that it's the matter of work that she returns to, to maintain her composure, or just because it's easier. "Most of your usual duties with be divided between me and Shevena, with her assistants on-hand to mop up the rest," she says. "If it turns out that you're needed here and there's someone you can trust with Dice, I advise that you make arrangements." The junior weyrwoman has come a long way from the young woman she was as a weyrling, demanding to be taught and put to use; no, she listens to Hattie's instructions, only the hint of an immediate, stubborn reaction in the look she slides to Hattie. But, she agrees simply, "I will do what I can, from here, and when I am not here. And I will make all of the necessary arrangements with Dice; you will not need to worry about that, at least." Initially, Hattie doesn't present any further argument than a gentle, "I hope your primary concerns will be Eliyaveith and her eggs." As before, it contains no particular inflection, and she may not have originally intended to say anything more than that, yet, as she begins to gather herself to stand, she insists, "You don't need to anxious about what I do or don't need to worry about." She's about to sweep her skirts beneath her and get to her feet when she abruptly turns with the intention of enveloping Lilah in a brief, too tight hug. "Congratulations." With that, she bolts, hopefully soon enough to conceal the shine to her eyes. The hug surprises the goldrider, uncertain of how to react to it. Though, she does move to wrap her arms back against Hattie even as the Weyrwoman draws away. The hug also forestalls any defensiveness against her devotion to her dragon and the eggs, only offering a murmured, "I will," in return as the other woman escapes. |

Nice to see this little 'pause' in their lives between them. :)

The role reversal is fun here! Hattie visiting her junior on the Sands and how they shake down the responsibilities. I love hearing about what Lilah thinks she should do based on what she's seen and Hattie's response to that. Awesome! <3
