>---< Storerooms, High Reaches Weyr(#273RJs) >-------------------------------<
Massive in scale, the Weyr's main storage passage connects to the kitchen
on one end and the outbound tunnel on the other. Large enough to admit a
wagon laden with goods, the tunnel easily permits the unloading and
organization of supplies into the various storerooms.
Branching off from this corridor are multiple caverns, the nearer two
being 'open' stores from which residents can readily help themselves,
while the deeper stores are kept locked up tight with a posted sign and
inventory hung on a hook outside of each. An alcove next to the public
stores serves as a catch-all area for reshelving items whose destination
is uncertain; two sets of stone shelving and several bins hold these items
neatly until a stores assistant has a moment to deal with them.
Though the storage caverns vary in size, shape, and the smoothness of
their walls, all belong to the same system: whitewashed walls, swept
floors, and most importantly, neatly labeled and inventoried shelves
providing ample space to stow all the supplies a busy Weyr needs. Though
there's no direct internal lighting, a glowbasket may be brought in from
the niche outside each cavern, the better to ward off pests and the inky
dark of deep caves.
>-----------------------------------------< 4D 13M 37T I10, winter night >---< With a grueling new schedule and a brand new weyr in need of furnishing, Edyis takes the little time she can after dinner to prowl the storeroom in search of the few necessities her new home lacks. She is perched on a ladder peering at battered bits of furniture with all the intensity of a miner panning for gold. The particular cabinet she is looking at looks as though it has seen better days, but still she eyes the stained surface thoughtfully, biting at her lip. Out in the bowl, Akluseth stands at the ready, amusing himself by catching snowflakes on his tongue. As at any night time, the denizens of the Weyr could pop up at any time for any reason. With Tacuseth landing near with young brown weyrling dragon, at the same time Jo strides in with her usual bravado and little fan fare in her black leathers. Her jacket is loose and unfastened about herself revealing slightly dirt-stained white tank underneathe, and she near bypasses the ladder where Edyis sits on her mission towards a group of boxes just beyond them. Of course, she misses little. "Hear y'all lil weyrlins' have been given yer weyrs," is her casual and yet cocky greeting, her back to the younger woman as she pulls one of the boxes towards herself. Dark eyes flick over the bluerider, taking in various details before a dark chuckle escapes her throat. "Some of us have, Keys and I got ours at least. There have been a few... hitches, but overall I think I lucked out with mine." Stepping off the ladder to pull out a battered cabinet standing a little taller than her self, the wood stain is mismatched, and the surface scratched and battered. But she opens it up anyway peering inside as though taking mental measurements. "What has you hunting this late?" The words low and sweet. "Lucked out how?" Jo studies something she pulls out from her box. It's belated that she looks over her shoulder towards the weyrling for her last, the barest of a lopsided smirk touching her lips as she promptly answers, "Lookin' for somethin' warm." There's a heavy pause before she returns to her box and adds, "Seems like, the Reachian cold gets colder every turn. Hope ya didn' choose a weyr higher up. The wind chill alone...." but then, she is chuckling as she pulls something else out of her box. "A nice sized little cistern that supplies water, a huge hearth you could cook a meal on, and the huge metal door can be locked, though that isn't much of a deterrent to some." Herself maybe, but it's at the mention of the cold that dark eyes flick over again. "I didn't really think about that; I've got a quilt from home, but I suppose more warm bedding might be in order. I've got to get oil for the pulleys too. " There is a distinct frown as she pulls out the cabinet, putting it to the side. Tossing the current blanket aside, "Indeed the lucky one," Jo answers, Turning to face her and lean her frame against the boxes. Arms folding, "I don' even have all that. Plannin' on doin' a lot of party-throwin' up there, eh? Cookin' meals for someone special?" She's in full-on teasing mode, amusement playing on her lips as she adds, "Guess I should getcha somethin' to that effect, for a weyr-warmin' gift. A congrats to survivin' this far'n all. Akluseth seems happy, accordin' to Tac. And yerself?" She studies Edyis instead on the box she was focusing on now, perhaps just to make her a little unnerved. Edyis snorts, it isn't intentional but something about the idea of someone special twists her expression. "Don't know about parties, but I like the idea of having a place that is my own, someplace I can share with friends and family. Something mine, ours." She corrects after a moment. She smiles at the mention of her lifemate, "He's easy to make happy, he also has a tendency to make things unnecessarily complicated. Or cause bizarre accidents." Jo chuckles to that snort before she murmurs, "So weyrlin'hood's toughen ya up a bit, did it?" More a statement than a question, and she pushes herself from the boxes to slowly approach her and what she's rummaging through with open curiosity. "Ya should throw a party," she suggests, briefly meeting her gaze before she gets close enough to her to peer over and try to see what it is Edyis is hunting for. She's almost within her personal space, even. "Weyrs should be celebrated. Good to own somethin' for yerself, I agree. One of the one things I enjoyed myself 'bout weyrlin'hood." There's a grin for her answer on her brown though with a lift of her brow, "Bizarre accidents," she echoes the last with a touch of a question in the statement. "Toughened up?" Edyis echoes in question, brow arched. It's when Jo gets closer that she pulls out a basket containing sheets. Her breath intakes ever so slightly, but composure is regained, "Waking up a good ten feet or more higher than where you went to sleep." She offers, with a flush, "Or finding things knocked over because someone didn't realize that he's no longer only three feet long. Having to chase sheets across the bowl because his tail accidentally flicked the basket over the edge of the ledge while unloading." The mention of sheets has her moving down to where those are stored though that cabinet that looks just the perfect size for storing bottles is left in the isle to be claimed later. "Toughened up, yeah," Jo, bold in the way she slowly closes the distance and seems to challenge her words. "Last time, last few times, ya weren' how ya are now." That seems to be the only explanation she's giving, too, choosing instead to narrow her gaze on the basket's contents as she listens. There's a snort given to Akluseth's antics, stepping aside enough that Edyis could go towards that cabinet. "A jokester," she comments on the brown. "Interestin' the sort of personalities they end up with. Tac was down for pranks growin' up himself, but, he left off it once he was tapped'n free to fly where he wanted. Where we wanted. Been doin' some travelin' now, yerself?" She returns to her own search then, bending to reclaim the blanket she had tossed. Edyis settles on a couple of sets made for a larger bed, and tucks them onto one of those shelves in the cabinet, going back to look for other similar items, snatching a pair of towels as well. "I - think that is a complement?" She murmurs dark brows furrowing. "Not really a jokester just... not good on thinking before he moves. I wish I could. My sisters and brother want to meet Akluseth." She murmurs at the mention of travel. "Until we have a bit more breathing room though it will be difficult. What about you, been anywhere interesting and exotic?" grinning as her gaze returns to the bluerider. "It is," Jo is willing to give with a slow incline of her head. "Might be hope for ya yet, Holdbred." That grin grows as she says it, looking back at her before the addressing the rest. "How much longer, ya think before ya go visit? Imagine that's one of the first places ya wanna go." There's a pause there, some sort of hesitation as she occupies herself with pulling out something thick and roughing-looking that she seems to be approving of before, "Never visited home when Tac'n I was given the clearance. Been back 'bout recently, even." As for interesting and exotic, her grin returns as she says over her shoulder, "The beaches up in Monaco are delicious this time of turn, ya know. Maybe, when ya get the clearance, Tac could send yer dragon the visuals?" Looking back to examine her find, "Perfect place to get naked," she drops oh-so lightly. "The girls are at Weaverhall, and Giorgee is in Tillek, he's got a few years yet though before he can study at the Seacraft Hall, but his uncle looks after him." She lifts a shoulder then, "Probably as soon as Akluseth can make the long flight, if not we might have to wait until cleared for between." She falters a moment when Jo uses the word home going quiet and thoughtful. "Family can be tricky thing, sometimes." She allows before sighing wistfully at the mention of the Monaco beaches. "I miss those most, I could go now I suppose with someone to supervise, but Akluseth would be beside himself if I went to the ocean without him." Her ears turn the faintest shade of red at mention of nakedness. "Sisters'n all, those?" Jo asks, draping the rough blanket over one shoulder as she turns towards Edyis. "Can' even imagine havin' sisters. Well, guess Aishani was the closest to one, but..." there's a slight shrug to that, or, maybe it's towards the comment on family, too. "Ain' so tricky when they don' give a shit, darlin'," is all she says to that, some of the bravado leaking in her tone. She doesn't linger long on it though, chuckling on the topic of the Monacoan beaches as she states breezily, "Shit, I'm the best supervisor." Right. The best. "He can dive in when he's ready. Ya let me know when they clear ya'll up'n we'll go. It'll be fun." She even manages not to have that sound too suggestive, even. "Eh, it's that way with my older siblings, but the younger three." She frowns, "I am still responsible for them in a way, so I try to look after them in little ways. Check in every so often." There's something softer in her smile with those words, Edyis laughing at the idea of sun and sea and sand. "Mm, I think Akluseth would love the water, his mind is so much like the sea anyway. It's a tempting offer." She grins. "Eh, it's that way with my older siblings, but the younger three." It's a tempting offer." She grins. Edyis watches Jo thoughtfully, "I would love to tell you that a family will always forgive, but I can't say I've had tremendous luck with blood relations. What I do know though, is that usually the family that isn't tied by blood or law usually makes up for it." She offers a half smile, "For whatever that is worth." Edyis grins at mention of further temptation, "Hardly, but I was warned about you being a horrible corrupter of the innocent and what not. I generally trust Alida's judgment." Something absolutely wicked in that grin despite it's innocence. "Rather a fist than forgiveness, personally," Jo is quick to say, that dark glint there in her gaze. "I agree, folks ya meet end up bein' better blood'n those yer born with." There's easy laughter to that last, bringing up her wingmate getting a click of her tongue as she deliberately steps into Edyis's personal space much like a hunter getting close to her prey. "Horrible? Me? I'm hardly horrible at it," she notes in an open tease, fingers lifting as if to playfully touch the younger woman's hair. "Alida does have good judgement," she agrees then, her two fingers trying to snag any loose strand of hair she can that frames Edyis's face, "but we've already had this talk 'bout ya doin' what ya shouldn'. Hm?" If she manages to snag a few strands of her hair, she'll playfully give it a little tug. To Tacuseth, Akluseth projects « Oh joy, she forgot to breathe.... again. I don't get it. »
