Soft-brushed sorrel smooths over this small, streamlined brown dragon, whose diminutive body's overshadowed by the majestically exaggerated lengths of his dark wings. His comparatively short, slender muzzle and expressive eyeridges are a paler brown, as are small crescents on his cheeks like old battle-scars; his headknobs are paler likewise, while darker smudges down his neckridges make them seem more curved than they really are. From chin to pale-banded tail, his underside sinks into the near-black shared by his wings, those dark hues offset that much more dramatically by the contrast of near-white talons. More subtle but just as dramatic is his balanced bearing, whether in intensity or tranquility: a true predator's power and poise.

Serenity Midst Verdant Greens Egg

Incredibly large, nearly the largest egg in the clutch, this egg is predominantly green. Lush, beautiful, woodsy greens swirl and zig and zag, their patterns reminiscent of rolling hills and craggy peaks with the occasional stone-hued fleck here and there. A slate-colored circle claims the apex of the pointed end, crowning the top like a serene master who looks upon the entire world.

Serenity be damned, the hatchling trapped inside of Serenity Midst Verdant Greens Egg doesn't have the patience to remain there anymore. A pale brown muzzle pokes through the cracks first, followed soon by the rest of his small body tumbling onto the sand with a graceless squawk. It begs the question: why was that egg so large?

Mysteries of Harmony Brown

Soft-brushed sorrel smooths over this sleek and diminutive brown, who's further dwarfed by the dark wingsails of a dragonet half again his size. His short, stubby muzzle and expressive eyeridges are a paler brown, as are small crescents on his cheeks like old battle-scars; his headknobs are paler likewise, while darker smudges down his neckridges make them seem more curved than they really are. From chin to pale-banded tail, his underside sinks into the near-black shared by his wings, those dark hues offset that much more dramatically by the contrast of near-white talons; equally dramatic is the immoderate intensity of his predator's bearing, pure and palpable in youth.

Temperament

He is not always the most patient dragon, nor perfectly at peace with the world around him, but if there is one thing that could define him, it's that Neianth always strives to be better today than he was yesterday. It might be a simple life philosophy, but this is the driving force behind almost everything that he does. It only makes sense that he will expect you to live by it as well, Keysi. It's not that he thinks you aren't capable enough as you are, of course; he wouldn't have chosen you if that were the case! But untapped potential is wasted potential, and that is something he cannot abide. Roszadyth's focus is on duty to the Weyr; for Neianth, it is duty to himself and to you, Keysi, to be all that he can be.

It will be most obvious that Neianth is not naturally a patient creature as a new weyrling, when he's aware enough to have high expectations of himself-- too high-- but lacks the fine control of his various long limbs, of himself, that would be necessary to be The Best. This will be especially notable to him when he compares himself to others, such as Akluseth, who readily excels at the physical. It will frustrate him, and he may need to be reminded from time to time that he walks much better now than when he first broke through his shell, that he flies much better now than when he could only glide. You are the inspiration that can help him realize that he does not need to be the best to be better, and he is yours.

His intensity may make for difficult relationships with his clutchmates, early on, when he is so focused on priorities that often differ from theirs. Like Jorrth, he is driven to excel, to practice until perfect; unlike that blue, and indeed many other dragons in the clutch, his focus is upon the physical-- he's simply less interested in being the smartest when he can be the best. Not only is he actively competitive, he's the type to egg you on-- which may include betting; can you perform a certain number of chin-ups, for example, before he can glide the same number of dragonlengths? Can you and a couple fellow weyrlings finish drawing a map for lessons before he and their dragons get bored? Can you manage not to scream if he threads the Spindles really, really fast?

He will push himself, and you along with him, sometimes to extremes. A trip to the dragonhealers for straining this muscle or that will not be unheard of until he learns that injuring himself is a setback-- a weakness, not a virtue of perseverance-- and discovers the extent of his limits. He will intuitively know yours, too, and he will push you to them without apology even if you think you're too tired to possibly go on. « Focus, Keysi. Again! » He will always try to end a training session, and almost any other interaction he has, on a positive note, arguing that anything less is akin to quitting, and that is not something he will ever let either of you do. « A true warrior never quits. »

With age comes-- well, maybe not wisdom, but moderation. The journey to become his most excellent self, and you yours, will always be his primary goal. As he matures, though, Neianth will discover that his most excellent self requires a more peaceful balance, something calmer to temper his intensity. Quiet reflection will become incredibly important to him. Unless there's an actual, legitimate emergency, good luck pulling him out of his meditations until he's good and ready, whether he's decided to sit himself serenely by the lake, in the middle of the bowl, or directly in front of the entrance to your inner weyr.

Despite his range of extremes from intense to tranquil, Neianth is not all seriousness. He is the notable possessor of a quick-witted, sarcastic brand of humor and he finds liberal use for it, especially, in (often unsuccessful) attempts to mitigate his criticisms. « Very impressive, Vadevjiath. If you were trying to look like a novice. » He's particularly likely to use it on dragons like Ahtzudaeth and Lifreyth, whose sense of whimsy genuinely perplexes him; what's so funny about the odd and peculiar? In fact, he's unlikely to recognise his own quirks-- like the way he turns around three times before settling down to sleep, or his preference to start with the heart when consuming his kills.

He can be very critical. He's most critical of himself and those he deeply cares for, however (learn quickly, future weyrlings, should you and he ever assist the weyrlingmaster), and of course you are who he cares for the most deeply of all, Keysi. Neianth's drive to excel will sometimes be at odds with your own interests, and there will certainly be times when you butt heads. Still, they're generally balanced out by the quiet moments when it is clear that you are his absolute everything.

Neianth won't be the sort of brown who pays much attention to females only on the basis that they are, in fact, female. He will respect any dragon who seeks to better themselves, even if not to the same extent as himself, though he may try to encourage that in them, too. Those who gain his friendship will find him deeply loyal, willing to offer insight and forgiveness as appropriate, but rarely firm opinions. « It is your decision, Lifreyth. No one else can make it for you. »

He approaches flights in much the same way as he does the rest of his life. Inner peace cannot be achieved by denying one's basest instincts. He believes this is true as much for you as for himself and, while he may not encourage you to seek out companionship, he will support the choices that you make because he trusts that you are capable of making them. He chases unpredictably, when the moment moves him, green and gold alike. He's a respectful, elegant suitor, but his natural competitiveness may sometimes cause him to act less elegantly in regards to his fellow chasers. Despite occasional unfortunate outbursts, he's apt to lose with relative grace, including meditating grumpily on the experience (and how to do better) when it's over. He'll prove a vigilant, protective sire in the unlikely event that he catches a queen, but he isn't often a doting mate unless he's quite taken with the female in question.

With Neianth, Keysi, your life will never lack for direction. He will always be there for you, to guide you, sometimes with more force than others, toward your goals, whatever they may be. In the quietest moments, he will find peace in your presence and, hopefully, you will find it in his. « If you are truly at peace, you can do anything. » He knows you are capable of great things together.

Public Impression Message

Deliberate steps carry the Mysteries of Harmony Brown along his chosen path. And then he pauses, intensity holding his diminutive body at attention as he lifts his head to look at a brown-haired, blue-eyed healer. He stares, dark wings mantling clumsily in an effort to make himself, well, bigger, more intimidating! Then he charges with a creel that was probably imagined by the hatchling to be much more fierce.

Private Impression Message

« You! » It's a rich baritone, right now impatient, and it hits like a fist in the gut, the sort that leaves you reeling and breathless. There's no defense from this attack, but it relents just as soon as it's begun. Have you passed his test? Perhaps. « You are who I am looking for, Keysi. I have found you. » He lets that sink in for a moment before he adds, « I am Neianth. » And now? Now his hunger must be tended to.

Mindvoice

There's a commanding, weighty quality in Neianth's deep baritone, the sort of voice you would expect from a teacher, but perhaps not from a brown as small as he. While he's not shy about using the full depth of his voice, particularly when frustrated or angry, his capability for silence is often more meaningful. In his silence, the spicy, masculine undertones of his presence are more obvious beneath the usual freshwater ripples. When at his most emotional with you, Keysi, his mindvoice can feel like a physical thing: a kick to the chest or your legs pulled out from under you.

Itchyspots

Neianth does not appreciate vanity as some dragons do, but he values the practicality of keeping himself as healthy and fighting fit as possible. Fortunately, this means he will almost always have the patience for a bath and oiling. He may even suggest additional oilings when he's extra itchy during growth spurts, because it's difficult to focus his attention where it needs to be if he's distracted by a dry hide. He does have a tendency to roll around in the sand, however, and he may need to be reminded not to do that directly after being freshly oiled. His weakness, as he will be prone to calling it, are his eyeridges, but he'll be loath to let anyone but you discover that.
