The promise of elegance radiates from this lean and slender dragonet, lending character and style to his mostly uniform true-brown shade. Built long from nose to tail tip, but average from ivory talons to shoulders, he is a dragon of pleasing aesthetics. Pinstripes of the subtlest of offset browns accentuate each narrow leg and opaque wingsail, drawing attention to the magnetic energy that seems to drive him even while in repose. Chestnut headknobs sweep back from a narrow jawline, shadowing prominent eyeridges that arc over bright, rainbow-prismed eyes, and encroach into the space where deep, blue-tipped neckridges ought to sharpen, giving his noble head distinction from the rest of his shorter neck. It's not there that the bulk of his length is found, but rather in the planes of a torso that will one day be graceful, descending inevitably into a sinuous and agile tail.

Walk of Fame Egg

Propped against a backdrop of shrub-like green and sandy brown, the blocky white angles that wrap around one end of this egg almost look like something one could read. The sand gives way to shadowed depressions at the egg's widest point before the dullness brightens into a jarring whirl of color. Deep red dominates amidst crisp black lines and fronds of green, while flashes of blue and white make it difficult to focus on any one clash.

Jarring whirls of color actually swirl as the egg circles in place, its speed increasing as the energy within aims to spring out. Then, abruptly, it goes silent. Was all that movement for naught? It might seem so... until the tiniest of striations suddenly web across the red-dominated part, and then crumble to reveal a decidedly alert and elegant brown.

Temperament

Light-hearted, cheeky, and outwardly easy-going, Lifreyth is unwavering optimism made tangible, and whimsy made real. Indeed, he's so focused and determined in this that, often, those around him might wonder how much of it is actually earnest... and what, exactly, lies beneath that bright, intellectual veneer.

In the moment of Impression, Lifreyth will meld completely and wholeheartedly to you, Laine. The emptiness you didn't realize had been present will be filled, and in the early months of partnership, while others might struggle to come to terms with their bond or with the sleepless nights taking care of an infant dragon, Lifreyth somehow manages to make everything smooth and easy. You may often wonder how or why, but eventually, your understanding of his deep empathy for you, your desires, and eventually the world around you, will become clear.

Like many of his clutchmates, Lifreyth is the type that makes learning seem easy. He picks up on ideas and theories, and goes that step further with a seeming effortlessness that might make you feel like you're the one falling behind. It is likely he will be an especial favorite of Olveraeth; your brown and the weyrlingmaster's blue might well be able to have endless talks of this theory or that. He could be insufferable in all this knowledge, not to mention that incessant craving to understand, but the joy with which he shares his knowledge, and the kindness with which he helps out other weyrlings, tempers his unadulterated intelligence. Like Vadevjiath and Ahtzudaeth (and his sire before him), he does see himself as more intelligent than most; for Lifreyth, however, interacting with other dragons is too much a joy to allow him to set himself apart. He and Jorrth may spend many happy hours finding things out, for both question everything in their earnestness to learn, and work to learn from their mistakes.

It's in those initial mistakes, the ones less simple than forgetting to poop in a neat pile for you to easily scoop, that you'll start seeing how many layers upon layers your optimistic dragon is built on. He takes those more complicated mistakes to heart, and though he tries to trap them deep within himself before you might notice, there will be definite moments when all his shame and guilt for reflecting poorly on you are exposed, and he is utterly vulnerable. It will take him time to open up these other facets of his personality; deep down, he's afraid it will frighten you, or push you away. This is where his true learning will come, for as much as he loves you, Laine, it will take time for Lifreyth to be able to let you in past those superficial layers of his personality, and just be himself, flaws and all.

Kind to all but himself, he will grow reliant on you to be the kindness he seems incapable of granting inwardly. You'll learn to pick through his good moods, and recognize when a good mood is actually a terrible one masked well; eventually, a touch, a word, or a nonchalant thought might be all he needs to right his deeper, sometimes darker, emotions.

As he ages, his outwardly charming brilliance will extend in other facets, as his abilities with lessons and 'book' learning start to shape into gentle, if enthusiastic, leadership and direction. He will shine in pretty much any wing he's put in, but particularly wings that delve into discovering new ideas, new paths, and new ways. « Isn't this an exciting adventure, Laine? Shall we see just how far we can climb in the sky before we need to drop to breathe? » His first visit to a non-Weyr might be both trouble and amusement, as he inspects and absorbs as much as he can. « Did you know, Laine, that they have people whose sole job it is to kiss in stables? I don't think they expected me to peek in. » Or, more seriously, once he's visited everywhere he can, « We should be helping holds like Two Trees with their rocks. It's for our own survival, Laine. » His love of adventure is something he will share with dragons like Akluseth; do expect to be dragged around Pern beneath their combined enthusiasm.

He'll particularly be friends to greens and golds, preferring the stimulation and balance of female minds, although every so often he will find that perfect male dragon that complements him in friendly camaraderie. Developing sexual awareness may disconcert him when the time comes and those relationships change. In flights, Lifreyth will not be as picky as some of his brothers, chasing greens and golds he is utterly besotted with outside of flights, but also those he's never even met. Those dragons he knows and likes will draw watchfulness in him; he may even go so far as to refuse to leave the Weyr prior to their flights, so that he might dance the dance and twine the tail. His mental prowess gives him an edge in flights for he can both charm and woo and calculate just which angle and which dragons he might push through to claim his prize. The one thing he will invariably fail to do, however, is fight dirty, and the unjustness of it all will push forth those deep roiling emotions he so willfully attempts to keep in check at all other times.

He'll be an enthusiastic, gleeful mate, should he catch, though he's not really built for monogamy; eventually, he's ready to move on and find some other adventure, even if it means leaving her behind. Of course, should his mate be a queen there's no question that he'll stick around for that; he finds children, even in egg form, absolutely fascinating.

Like Roszadyth, Lifreyth believes to his core in fairness, justice, and goodness. He knows the world is not a perfect place, but being faced by cruelty, injustice and unkindness can send him into a downward spiral; how can people (and dragons) live like that? How can they live with themselves? And why can't he, Lifreyth, manage to stop it? Lifreyth's struggle against this, and to keep up the good face, is a real one, and one that you will feel always, Laine. He walks the talk, but it's no easy path.

The one thing he will always have, however, is you. You, Laine, are the one companion he will never leave-- even if something you do disconcerts or troubles or even outright alarms him-- and eventually, the one person he can truly share everything with. Together, you will have many adventures; your destiny awaits.

Public Impression Message

Destiny In the Stars Brown deliberates, now that he's had time to think rather than act, and walks the line of candidates slowly. He does not stop, only looking ahead, his steps hurrying as he feels something. Senses someone. By the end, there's a unadulterated joy in his pounding feet and he full-stops in front of a sturdy young woman with short-cropped, glossy dark hair, and crows his delight.

Private Impression Message

Do you hear it? It's a ticking clock, the passage of time. Do you sense it? It's the rustle of pages in a records room. Do you smell it? It's the familiar, musty smell of leather-bound tomes buried deep on dusty shelves. Do you feel it? It's a wind sending up those dust clouds to tickle even more of your senses at once. And then you must, surely you must hear it again, that gently ticking clock that quickens as if it's getting closer and closer. « Laine! » A flood of summer's sun seems to fill you from head to toe, banishing the dust and bringing warm, sunshiny optimism to the endless vault you were just in. « You are my far-flung hope and I am your improbable dream. Hello, Laine, I am Lifreyth. »

Mindvoice

The rustle of pages. The smell of old and new tomes. Ink. Dust gathering. Lifreyth draws all his best from the volumes and volumes of knowledge that exist somewhere between you and him and time and space. Given his insatiable need to know, learn, and document, it is unsurprising. And yet, every so often, in his most morose of moods, the library ceiling will crumble into dust and expose the endless spiral of space's inky black, lethal in its never-ending silence with only a glimmer of stars for companionship. In that state, the stars are his and your friends and he will use them to express what he can't quite say.

Itchyspots

The hide between his talons will always tend to itch, as well as that spot just at the top of his head that begins his elongated headknobs' sweep. Something about the way his bone structure is makes that the first spot that needs massive amounts of oil at the start of each growth spurt.

Inspiration

Oh, Laine. You asked for an unconventional personality that is dynamic without being antagonistic nor overly political. You also mentioned unending optimism, shoot-first/questions-later attitude, leadership skills, or principled compassion. In combining these ideas, the concept that really spoke to us was a dragon inspired by a combination of various of the Doctors from Doctor Who. But really? Really honestly? Lifreyth is predominantly the Tenth Doctor, with just a flash of the others here and there. There are opportunities to seek out leadership, to search and rescue ('cause isn't that what the Doctor does best?) and pursue all sorts of endeavors with this amazing brown. His desc is based off the pinstripe suits David Tennant's Doctor often wore, as well as the man's general build. The ivory talons are for his Converse shoes, and the blue-tipped ridges as an homage to TARDIS blue. His name, of course, derives from the home planet of the Time Lords, Gallifrey.
